Notice the contrasting fortunes of two parties and states, R bro.

If one has to hit BJP for a competitive political space, hit the soft spots, Uddav exactly did opposite in hurry and angst. In the process he totally ruined SS's  long held central characteristic, which his father built arduously fighting a lone battle in a climate & country where 'warped brand of secularism'  billed as  'just and mainstream' in Indian politics for long time.

Country's gears & paradigm changed. Now the country and public are rising from the slumber and realizing what stricken them, asserting and standing up for what is really equitable for all than the vote bank appeasement politics. Instead of staying true and reaping the dividends, Uddav went out of character, joining hands with Congress, NCP etc. What next? Mamata and Mehbooba? Unsmart, hasty and emotional , rather than being strategic. 

See there will be competition among political parties for space, that's the nature of the game. This Marata leader talked tough, acted wrong, and on the other side, a Kalinga leader stayed true to the philosophy of father(Biju) and didn't dilute the anti-congress brand, all the while staying competitive with BJP at state level. Thats why the soft talking Navin fended off BJP at state level. Simultaneously at National level didn't buy congress's beaten philosophy, but went with what is right for the country in his estimation at macro level national issues. 

Results speak for themselves, Uddav was loud and chose poorly where as mild mannered Navin chose wisely, for their respective parties and states.
