Even my friends, who all have PhDs, gave such elevation to Modi and praised it as a magical elixir for all the ills in Indian economy. I was the only one in my circle who countered it after looking at the numbers. It didn't make any sense. I started doubting Modi from that day. Later his true colors came out. My friends are of course soft-Bhakts even today. I stopped discussing politics with them soon after. My take on "DeMo is good but implementation is bad" is ideas are dime a dozen.
