Hyderabad Metro Rail Expansion: Talks with Japan's JICA by Revanth Government

The Revanth Reddy-led government has initiated the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, which is set to extend across six routes, covering a distance of 70 kilometers. This expansion requires significant funding, prompting the state government to engage in discussions with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Preliminary estimates suggest the metro expansion will cost up to ā‚¹17,500 crores. Typically, such projects are funded with the state government contributing 35%, the central government 15%, and the remaining 50% obtained through loans. However, this time, the state government is exploring a new model, where 5% of the 50% will be through government and private partnership (PPP), with the remainder sought as long-term loans.

In this context, Chief Minister Revanth, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and senior officials have held discussions with representatives of JICA India. JICA has previously approved loans totaling ā‚¹1.07 lakh crores for metro rail projects in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, Patna, and Ahmedabad. The interest rates for JICA loans are reportedly between 2% to 3%, as stated by officials

Hyderabad: Revanth to lay foundation for Old City Metro on Mar 8

The estimated cost is expected to be a staggering Rs 2,000 crore, including for road widening and the shifting of utilities.

Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy is set to lay the foundation stone for the Old City metro rail project at Falaknuma on Friday, March 8.

There was an earlier confirmation from the Congress party that the event would take place on March 7. But the eventā€™s date has now been moved to a day later.

An official press release issued on Monday claimed that the Phase I Metro rail work in a 5.5-kilometer stretch from MGBS to Falaknuma of the corridor II Green Line JBS to Falaknuma was not taken up earlier.

After Congress came to power, the chief minister focused his attention on the old city metro and directed HMRL officials to take it up as a high priority, it added.

The Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, NVS Reddy, asserted that the alignment will pass through Darulshifa ā€“ Purani Haveli ā€“ Etebar Chowk ā€“ Alijakotla ā€“ Mir Momin Daira ā€“ Haribowli -Shalibanda ā€“ Shamsheergunj ā€“ Aliabad and ends at Falaknuma Metro Rail station.

There would be 4 stations, namely Salarjung Museum, Charminar, Shalibanda, and Falaknuma.
