Shabri Ashram: Sureban, Near Ramdurg, Belgaum, Karnataka

Around 14 kilometers in the Northern direction from Ram Durg, near the town of Gunga is placed

called Sureban. This is place where Shabri, who was a disciple of Sage Matang lived. She had

waited long years for her dear Ram to arrive, and on his arrival she fed him berries which she had

tasted herself to make sure that they were sweet. This angered Lakshman but Shri Ram pacified

him because he could see her intense love and devotion towards him. It was Shabri who then

instructed Ram to approach Sugreev in the search for his beloved wife.

Sri Rama Giri in VR Puram mandal is situated on the bank in the down stream of the river Godavari (about 55 Kms from Bhadrachalam). The deity Yogarama temple is on a hill place and the place is named after Sri Rama Giri.

Brief History: According to mythological story, an ardant devotee, Sabari, gave shelter to Sri Sita Rama Laxmanulu while they were on the way in Dhandakaranya during Vanavaasa period and offered fruits to Rama after tasting them out of affection towards Rama. Bhakta Sabari who had spent her old age by chanting Rama nama in Dhandakaranya attained salvation after having Darshan of Rama whom she loved fervently and later dissolved as a rivulet which merged into the holy river Godavari near Kunavaram.

Srk mastaru seppali mari....aayanay Guide Raamudiki aa time lo brahmam_style1.gif

I really dont know...Ramayanam lo Ramudu ee ee margala gunda vellado suspastam ga cheppaadu Valmiki.....Andhra meedhaga Ramudu vachchi undakapovachchu...andhulo ascharyam emi ledhu....idhi konni yugaala naati charitra..appatlo adhi anthaa keekaranyam...Ravanusurudu senalu ...kondaru rakshashulu ..ee aranyaalalo thapassu sesukune munulu thappa..evadu undevaadu ikkada......ikapothe nenu Bhadrachalam eppudu vellaledhu....Bhadrachalam sthalapuranam naaku telvadhu...

But Ramayana elaborately explains the paths through which Lord Rama travelled.....not just whatever Rama travelled...Infact when Sugriva was chased by his brother vaaley..he runs through the four corners of the world...and he explains the geography of all the four sides of the earth in finer details, when he commands the Monkey army to go through the four corners of the world in search of Sita.......But it is a fact, that modern researchers have done some substantial research on the path travelled by Rama in  detail...especially some botanists have done some research.....whatever plants valmiki had mentioned in different regions of the path, the research proved that these plants existed in those regions even now...(Let us recall that certain plants are only specific to specific regions...they dont exist elsewhere...even if they exist, not in a significant way)...For example, Valmiki talks of the region where Sage Rushyasrunga was brought in to specific regions, to bring about rainful, as the kingdoms those days were suffering from severe draught....and with Sage Rushyasrung came the rains....and that region even now is called Sringeri...and the surrounding areas have high rainful, probably next only to chirapunjee in Assam.....this area in Karnataka is the catchment area for the Tungabhadra river waters....
