The movie is not perfect. So is every other movie.
FANTASTIC first half and VERY good second half with excellent climax (Including post-credit scene).
Sounding, Camera and shot executions are next level.
Ranbir career's best performance.

Vanga - Salute to you..!!

:iagree:

The most amusing thing about the Sandeep Reddy Vanga fandom is its firm belief that the director is a rebel who challenges conservative norms. But, in fact, Vanga has the same belief system as a boomer uncle - just that, the version he presents is the browser history version of the said boomer uncle.

One can argue that his films are films and his protagonists are protagonists. But one only needs to watch his interviews to know that his protagonists mouth the same thoughts that run in his brain. Vanga truly believes that he has revolutionary ideas about love and romance, men and women. In #Animal, for instance, Papa-Boy (Ranbir), tells Geethanjali (Rashmika) that in ancient times, women had all the power to choose who would mate with them. They didn't have to listen to their parents, subscribe to any caste or religious rules. They decided who they would sleep with based on which male was able to hunt the best - the alpha male.

Of course, Geethanjali is mind-blown by this information. Never mind that it comes from Papa-Boy whose rich and flashy lifestyle is a consequence of his father's wealth and not due to his prowess with the bow and arrow. When Papa-Boy compliments her on the size of her pelvis, she immediately recognises that this is the ALPHA she must spend her time with.

Later in the film, Papa-Boy sleeps around with another woman for a lofty purpose (true story), but when Geethanjali asks for a divorce, he tells her that divorce is not a solution. He also tells her that she must not remarry in case he dies. Geethanjali can select and sleep with an Alpha only as long as it is Papa-Boy.

In #ArjunReddy, too, the "rulebreaker" Arjun Reddy could sleep around with any woman he wanted, and he is ready to "accept" Preethi even when she's pregnant with a baby he doesn't know yet is his own. But miracle-of-miracles! Preethi reveals that she never slept with her husband. OMG, even her clothes were not touched by him. She has remained monogamous and faithful to Arjun Reddy.

These "love" stories that Vanga elevates to the level of sagas find so much resonance with the predominantly male audience because it satisfies their fundamental desire to explore their sexuality while having tight control over female sexuality. In other words, the definition of patriarchy - the selective imposition of monogamy on women to ensure that property and wealth is passed on through the male line.

The fandom may also argue that Vanga's protagonists are "flawed" heroes that he doesn't actually celebrate. But if the fandom has any grasp on film language, they will need only half a brain cell to tell the difference between representation and glorification. Also, it is a mystery why the women these "flawed" heroes are in love with cannot be flawed themselves. Why can't they have a potbelly after two children, for instance? Why can't they have a mindless affair on the side? Why are they such boring Sati-Savitris whose only rebellion on screen is an occasional slap followed by intense lovemaking to the said Alpha?

These boomer uncle values are very much present in every generation, including the Gen Z generation that finds it exciting and exhilarating to watch the repackaged version. OMG, somebody is talking about pubic hair on screen...how extraordinary! How revolutionary! SHIT, THIS IS CINEMA! In reality, Vanga's dialogues are like the boomer uncles who talk dirty on WhatsApp video calls and think they're being sexy.

Also, I'm not "triggered" or "provoked" by Vanga. As a filmmaker, he does not challenge ideas. He is a conformist. He bores me. Thank you. #kthxbye
