Team Amaravati’s Jonas Andersson (Sweden national) beat all other drivers of 9 teams finishing the 2.12-km-long five-pin circuit in just 46.81 seconds in the first qualifying round excited the crowds. What followed was most intense racing, as the powerboats blasting shrills and almost flying on the water surface hit top speeds in the second qualifying round to make it to the top six positions for Sunday’s final race. All the drivers who hit top speeds of not less than 170 kmph got qualified for the final race and in the third and final individual qualifying round that decides pole positions team Abu Dhabi’s Shaun Torrente (U.S.) finished the lap in just 44.54 seconds. He was followed by Marit Stromoy (Norway), a female driver of team Emirates Racing, who finished the lap in 44.72 seconds. Mr. Jonas ended up in the fifth position and will be competing with other drivers, including, Erik Stark (Sweden) of team Abu Dhabi, Thani Al Qemzi (UAE) also of team Abu Dhabi, and Ahmed Al Hameli (UAE) of team Victory of UAE. Earlier, F4 race was held between nine teams. Traffic jam The second day of the event drew thousands of people who flocked the designated areas between the Punnami Ghat and Bhavani Ghat and also occupied the NH near Kankadurga Temple blocking traffic. The organisers claim that over 30,000 people watched the race live and lakhs watched the live telecast. Chief Minister’s wife Nara Bhuvaneswari and actor Manchu Manoj were among the visitors who enjoyed the formula one racing. On Sunday, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will flag off and witness the final race, in which six drivers will participate. Meanwhile, police had a tough time managing the vehicular traffic and motorists were also forced to take alternative and long routes as the Swathi Junction and Durga Temple junction got blocked. On the other hand, policemen, including those who came from Ongole and parts of Krishna and sanitation workers, were forced to wait for lunch in the afternoon as the organisers ran out of dishes.
