Glycogen is energy from sugar/ carbohydrates and stored in muscles and liver. Once glycogen storage is depleted, body will start burning fat for energy. In the worst case it will burn muscles and fat for energy. A minimal level of blood glucose will be maintained while fasting, for which the burning of muscles (amino acids) and fat (fatty acids) is required.
