20 GW solar power

In what appears to be a giant step for India towards solar energy, the country has achieved its target that was set for 2022, four years in advance. Latest data show that India has already achieved its solar capacity target of 20 GW in 2018. This comes after a strong push by the Modi government towards solar power. In fact, after PM Modi came to power, he increased the power capacity target for 2022 to 100 GW.

The latest data by Mercom India, a clean energy market tracker, mentioned that India achieved this goal in cumulative solar installations. The states leading in solar installations are Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. According to Mercom's report, utility-scale cumulative installations account for 18.4 GW, while rooftop solar installations account for rest of the 1.6 GW.

In the calendar year 2017 alone, installations reached up to 9.6 GW, that is 45 per cent of the total additions.

https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/solar-costs-are-hitting-jaw-dropping-lows-in-every-region-of-the-world#gs.322jR6g

"GTM Research finds that India’s system of tenders has produced extremely competitive bidding, and, as a result, almost unimaginably low system pricing. India is seeing the lowest system prices of any major solar market in the world, ever.

The report finds that India has utility PV system pricing of 65 cents per watt.

The secret to these low prices? It turns out that a great way to reduce your soft costs is to pay your labor force and engineers next to nothing. (Markets with low-cost labor are more likely to use fixed-tilt systems, lowering turnkey system prices even more.)"

soft cost (labor cost) is lowest in india (cheaper than China).

The reason solar prices are falling because of aggressive bidding for getting guaranteed revenue for next 25 years and govt. exemptions of all types surcharges and taxes with free land and infra. So companies are themselves funding these minimal costs for putting up of solar farms via corporate CD or bonds. which are anyway aggressively purchased by again foreign direct investment investors like softbank (again this is permitted by MODI govt. only not dumbass congress govt.)

Once govt. puts import tariffs on solar equipment then domestic manufacturing will improve just like cell phones and electrical sector.

This is indeed remarkable achievment by MODI. This is the only and first thing i can see he successfully achieved.

LuvNtr & kiran bros - you both are so right on thread topic, but not quite so in identifying the intentions of the misguided brother, that's where the confusion comes: It not love for china or kcr or rahul that is driving factor behind this, the deep seated intense loathing for India, its culture & all things related to it....In their mind they think they are contributing with their efforts for the unfinished business of - guzwaa-hind or tukada Karo Hindustan ...Get it right !
