విజయవాడ సొరంగం ఎలా మారిపోయిందో చూసారా ?

   

విజయవాడ, చిట్టినగర్ నుండి హైదరాబాద్ జాతీయరహదారిని కలిపే మార్గంలో ఉన్న సొరంగం ఇది. నగర శివారు ప్రాంతాలైన భవానీపురం, విద్యాధరపురం, కబేళా పరిసర ప్రాంత వాసులు అతి తక్కువ సమయంలో నగరంలోకి రావడానికి ఉన్న ఏకైక మార్గం సొరంగం. అయితే మనకు తెలిసిన సొరంగం వేరు, ఇప్పుడు వేరు. విజయవాడ మొత్తాన్ని పరిశుభ్రంగా తాయారు చేస్తున్న చంద్రబాబు, సొరంగ మార్గాన్ని కూడా సుందరంగా తీర్చిదిద్దుతున్నారు. సొరంగం మొత్తం, లోపల భాగంలో అందమైన రంగులతో నింపారు. కళంకారీ పెయింటింగ్స్ వేస్తున్నారు. పనులు చాలా వరకు అయిపోయాయి. ఇంకా కొంత మేర పెయింటింగ్స్ వెయ్యాల్సి ఉంది.

 

కేఎల్‌ రావు జలవనరుల శాఖ మంత్రిగా ఉన్నప్పుడు ఈ సొరంగ నిర్మాణానికి పునాదులు పడ్డాయి. 60వ దశకంలో నిర్మాణమైన ఈ సొరంగ మార్గం, అప్పట్లో విజయవాడకు బెజవాడ అనే పేరు రావడానికి ఈ సొరంగమే కారణమనే వాదనలు ఉన్నాయి. ఈ సొరంగం పూర్తయ్యే నాటికి విజయవాడలో అక్షరాస్యుల శాతం చాలా తక్కువని, గ్రామీణుల రాకపోకలు ఎక్కువగా ఉండేవని చెబుతారు. దీంతో గ్రామీణులు అప్పట్లో ఈ సొరంగాన్ని బెజ్జంగా వ్యవహరించేవారు. బెజ్జం ఉన్న ఊరు కాబట్టి విజయవాడ కాస్తా, బెజ్జంవాడగా, కాలక్రమంలో బెజవాడగా విజయవాడ బాగా ప్రసిద్ధి చెందిందనేది వారి వాదన.

స్వచ్ఛ భారత్‌లో బెజవాడ బెస్ట్‌ సిటీగా నిలిచింది అంటే కారణం, ఇలా సిటీ మొత్తం అందంగా తీర్చిదిద్దితేనే. స్వచ్ఛ సర్వేక్షణ్‌లో మొత్తం 4 వేల నగరాలు పోటీపడ్డాయి. వీటిని అధిగమించి మరీ విజయవాడ మునిసిపల్‌ కార్పొరేషన్‌ అగ్రస్థానంలో నిలిచింది. ఫిబ్రవరిలో ఢిల్లీ నుంచి వచ్చిన అధికారుల బృందం నగరంలో దాదాపు పదిహేను రోజులపాటు విజయవాడలో స్వచ్ఛ సర్వేక్షణ్‌లో భాగంగా చేపట్టిన పలు అభివృద్ధి కార్యక్రమాలను స్వయంగా పరిశీలించారు. డంపింగ్‌ యార్డులో ఏర్పాటు చేసిన బయోమైనింగ్‌ ప్రాజెక్టు, వీవీడీ అనే ప్రైవేటు సంస్థ ద్వారా చేపట్టిన భవన నిర్మాణాల వ్యర్థాలతో టైల్స్‌ తయారీ సంస్థ ఏర్పాటు వంటి వాటితో పాటు నగరంలో పారిశుధ్యం దిశగా చేపట్టిన చెత్త సేకరణ, కమర్షియల్‌ ప్రాంతాల్లో చెత్త సేకరణకు తీసుకున్న చర్యలు, డంపింగ్‌ యార్డు నిర్వహణ, స్మార్ట్‌ డంపర్‌ బిన్లు, చెత్త సేకరణకు ఉపయోగిస్తున్న స్మార్ట్‌ వాహనాలు ఇతర అభివృద్ధి కార్యక్రమాలను పరిశీలించారు.

నగరంలోని చెత్తసేకరించే అన్ని ప్రాంతాలను పర్యవేక్షించేందుకు వినూత్నంగా సీసీ కెమెరాలను ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. దీంతో పాటు రహదారుల పక్కన చెత్త లేకుండా ఎప్పటికప్పుడు తరలించడం, తడి, పొడిచెత్తను వేర్వేరుగా సేకరించడం, ప్రజా మరుగుదొడ్లను ఆధునికీకరించడం, నగరంలోని పాఠశాలల్లోనూ ప్రత్యేక ఏర్పాట్లు చేయడం, బహిరంగ ప్రదేశాల్లో స్వచ్ఛకార్యక్రమాలను విస్తృతంగా చేపట్టడం, కాలువల పక్కన సుందరీకరణ, ఖాళీ స్థలాలను పార్కులుగా మార్చడం, బహిరంగ ప్రదేశాల్లో మలమూత్ర విసర్జన చేయకుండా వాలంటీర్లను ఏర్పాటు చేయడం, ప్రజలకు స్వచ్ఛ సర్వేక్షణ్‌పై అవగాహన కల్పించేందుకు ప్రచారం చేయడం వంటివి చర్యలు చేపట్టారు.

మరోవైపు నగరంలోని కూడళ్లన్నింటినీ అందంగా మారుస్తూ ఫౌంటేన్లు, గ్రీనరీని పెద్దఎత్తున ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. రహదారులకు ఇరువైపులా ఉన్న గోడలన్నింటినీ అందమైన చిత్రాలతో అలంకరించారు. వాణిజ్య సముదాయాల వద్ద తడి, పొడి చెత్త సేకరణకు ప్రత్యేకంగా డస్ట్‌బిన్‌లను ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. నిత్యం సేకరించే తడి చెత్తనున ఎరువుగా మార్చేందుకు నగరంలోని రైతుబజార్లు, కూరగాయల మార్కెట్ల వద్ద 11 ప్రాంతాల్లో కంపోస్టుయార్డులను ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. ఆటోనగర్‌, విద్యాధరపురం ప్రాంతాల్లో రెండు పెద్ద కంపోస్టు యార్డులను నెలకొల్పారు. నగరంలో 550 మెట్రిక్‌ టన్నుల చెత్తను సేకరిస్తుండగా.. దీనిలో 200 మెట్రిక్‌ టన్నుల తడి చెత్త ఉంటోంది. ఈ చెత్త మొత్తం ప్రస్తుతం కంపోస్టు ఎరువుగా మారుస్తున్నారు.

River-front area to get a facelift

 

 

Vijayawada: After the development of ghats on the banks of Krishna river downstream of Prakasam barrage for Krishna Pushkaralu, the State government is now shifted its focus on the development of river-front area development.

 

Since the TDP government came to power, it was planning to develop river-front area. In this backdrop, proposals have been made for construction of a five-star hotel, convention centre, children amusement park, multi-level parking, retail commercial complex in front of Krishna river and adjacent to national highway in Krishna Lanka.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation(VMC), AP Transco, Water Resources department, APSRTC owns over 26 acres of land between VMC main office and Pandit Nehru bus station close to the National Highway.

 

 

 

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has instructed the officials to develop the river-front area to attract tourists and for proper utilisation of government lands in the heart of the city.  

 

Every day more than 50,000 pilgrims visit the Durga temple. Besides, over 50,000 passengers travel by buses via Pandit Nehru bus station. If the river front area is developed, these pilgrims and passengers can visit the children's amusement parks, hotels and shopping complexes to be built near Rajiv Gandhi park.

 

The Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) is the facilitator of the river front development project. Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) has been formed with the departments of ADC, the Transco, the RTC, Water Resources and VMC.

 

Lands belong to VMC, Transco, Water Resources department will be used for construction of a five-star hotel, convention centre, retail commercial complex, multi-level parking zone etc. These projects will be built under the PPP mode.

 

To give a major boost to the tourism, the state government has decided to give a facelift to the river front tourism. Amaravati Development Corporation has drawn the design for developmental works and has been waiting for approval from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

 

The outlook of downstream of Prakasam barrage will be changed with construction of convention hall, a five-star hotel, restaurants and entertainment zone and retail parking complexes.

 

Rajiv Gandhi park is geographically located in important place and very near to Railway station and bus stand. Many play toys, arranged in the park nearly two decades ago, are in a dilapidated condition and has no use to visitors particularly children. 

 

Moreover, the VMC is also not developing the park for two decades. In this backdrop, proposals have been made for the development of greenery in the park.

VIJAYAWADA: Two cities from Andhra Pradesh, Tirupati and Vijayawada, have made it to the top ten liveable cities in the country, securing fourth and ninth positions, as per the Ease of Living Index released by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in New Delhi on Monday.

The survey assessed 111 cities on parameters including governance, social institutions and infrastructure. In governance, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam secured second, ninth and tenth positions respectively.

While Tirupati secured first place in social institutions category, Vijayawada stood eighth. In the economic category, Vijayawada is the only city in the State to figure in the top ten positions by finishing last. However, in physical infrastructure category, Vijayawada failed to make to the elite club, but Tirupati and Visakhapatnam secured sixth and tenth positions respectively.

Speaking to TNIE, Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner J Nivas said the civic body had focused on developing parks, open-air gymnasiums, wastewater management and water supply, allowing it to smooth sail into the list of top ten cities in the country under the Ease of Living Index.

“Two months ago, the civic body sent a detailed report to MoHUA on 78 indicators grading the existing conditions of urban transport, wastewater management and solid waste management. Vijayawada scored 49.27 marks out of 100, performing impressively in areas including governance, health, education, wastewater management and assured water supply,’’ Nivas added.

It may be recalled that Vijayawada secured a position in the top 10 cleanest cities in the country in the above one lakh population category and bagged the Cleanest City tag under above one million population category in Swachh Survekshan this year.

Meanwhile, Tirupati scored 57.52 marks out of 100 by outstanding most cities. Expressing his happiness over the achievement, Chittoor Collector PS Pradyumna said the recognition would encourage its residents to work more effectively.

Capital will take shape by December, assures Chandrababu Naidu

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that the capital Amaravati would get into a shape by December this year. Participating in various programmes, including the inauguration of two hospitals, a new branch of Punjab Sindh Bank and Amaravati selfie point here, Naidu said that the Assembly construction works would begin the next month.

 

Already the tenders were finalised for the High Court building, he said. The Chief Minister also said that the investors and people had expressed confidence in his leadership by participating in the bidding of Amaravati capital bonds in a big way.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Prakasam Barrage would turn into a big tourism centre, he said and added that the biggest national flag would be installed there. He asked the officials about the flood water flow to Krishna river. Stating that three water storage points would be constructed on River Krishna soon, he said Krishna delta and also Rayalaseema districts would not face any water scarcity in near future.

 

 

 

Referring to Vijayawada city securing 9th place Liveable Cities Index recently announced by the Centre, Naidu said the state government had taken several steps for the development of the city and  added that several medical institutions had started their establishments here.

 

He said that some more national level institutions would start their operations from the city soon. There is a huge possibility to develop the city as the three canals are flowing through the middle of the city, he said.   Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao, MP Kesineni Srinivas, MLA Gadde Rammohana Rao, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, district collector B Lakshmikantham and several leaders were present.
