రుషికొండ బీచ్‌కు అతి చేరువలో సముద్రతీరానికి ఎదురుగా ఉన్న ఖాళీ స్థలంలో హెలీప్యాడ్‌ నిర్మించడానికి విశాఖనగరాభివృద్ధి సంస్థ(వుడా) ఇంజినీరింగ్‌ అధికారులు నిశ్చయించారు. దేశంలోనే ఉత్తమ పర్యాటక కేంద్రంగా విశాఖ ప్రాంతాన్ని తీర్చిదిద్దేందుకు రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం కృత నిశ్చయంతో ఉంది. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో ఈ నెల 16న హెలీ పర్యాటకాన్ని నగరంలోని ఎన్టీఆర్‌ వుడా పార్కులో ముఖ్యమంత్రి ఎన్‌.చంద్రబాబునాయుడు ప్రారంభించిన సంగతి తెలిసిందే.

విశాఖ ఆకర్షణీయ నగరంగా ఎంపికవడంతో వుడాపార్కు పరిసర ప్రాంతాలను మరింత అభివృద్ధి చేయాల్సిన ఆవశ్యకతను జిల్లా ప్రభుత్వ యంత్రాంగం గుర్తించింది. సంబంధిత ప్రాంతంలో హెలీప్యాడ్‌ కార్యకలాపాలు నిర్వర్తించడానికి వీలుపడదని అధికారులు నిశ్చయించారు. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో రుషికొండ బీచ్‌ పరిసరాలతోపాటు సమీప కొండ ప్రాంతంలో పర్యాటకశాఖకు ఉన్న 50 ఎకరాలకు పైగా భూముల్లో సముద్రతీరానికి ఎదురుగా ఆహ్లాదకర ప్రదేశంలోని రెండెకరాలను ఇందుకోసం గుర్తించారు. ఇక్కడ హెలీప్యాడ్‌ నిర్మాణంతో పాటు సంబంధిత ప్రక్రియ నిర్వహణలో భాగంగా సదుపాయాలు కల్పించడానికి ప్రణాళిక రూపొందించారు. విశాఖ ఉత్సవ్‌ నుంచి హెలీ పర్యాటకాన్ని చేపట్టేలా అధికారులు ఇప్పటికే రుషికొండ ప్రాంతంలో సర్వే ప్రక్రియ పూర్తి చేశారు.

రూ. 2 కోట్లతో ప్రత్యామ్నాయ మార్గం: బీచ్‌రోడ్డు నుంచి రుషికొండ తీరంలోకి ప్రవేశించేందుకు ప్రస్తుతమున్న రహదారి ఇరుకుగా ఉన్నందున వాహనచోదకులు ఇబ్బందులు పడుతున్నారు. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో గాయత్రీ కళాశాల ఎదురుగా ఉన్న బీచ్‌ రోడ్డు నుంచి పర్యాటక రిసార్ట్స్‌ కొండ వెనుక ప్రాంతం ద్వారా తీరం వెంబడి రుషికొండ బీచ్‌కు చేరుకునేలా రూ. 2 కోట్లతో సుందరంగా మరో మార్గాన్ని నిర్మించడానికి టూరిజం ఇంజినీరింగ్‌ అధికారులు సర్వే చేపట్టి ప్రణాళిక రూపొందించారు. వచ్చే నెలలో ఈ రహదారి పనులు ప్రారంభం కానున్నాయని అధికారులు స్పష్టం చేశారు. డ

Vizag emerging as a prominent IT hub in State

The city attracting huge investments because of connectivity and infrastructure

Hopes have remained alive to make Visakhapatnam a prominent IT hub with the State focusing its attention on showcasing the city as a hotspot for financial technology (fintech).

The recent visit of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has already given a shot in the arm to promote Brand Vizag. Conduent, a US$6 billion company and Lalith Ahuja’s ANSR Consulting have signed MoUs to set up facilities with a total investment of Rs. 1,000 crore. While ANSR has been allotted 10 acres at Rushikonda for its global in-house centre, Conduent will set up a development centre. Each of them will employ 5,000 in phases.

After encouraging response to Fintech Tower developed at Rushikonda, where Paytm and other leading players have launched their operations, Thomson Reuters, Visa and Franklin Templeton have inked MoUs to launch their operations in the city. The inauguration of Tech Hub with plug and play facilities under the designated technology park (DTP) policy at the new building taken on lease from Tech Mahindra, WNS and Patra India, leading BPOs have announced to locate their new units.

The construction of Millennium Tower being built by the government at Rushikonda with a built-up space of three lakh square feet with an investment of about Rs. 190 crore is nearing completion. It will be New Year’s gift to the city.

“Compared to Vijayawada, Tirupati and other places, Visakhapatnam has been attracting huge investment proposals because of connectivity, infrastructure and only cosmopolitan city status,” IT Minister Nara Lokesh said during his recent visit. In a significant development, Google X has also agreed to establish its first development centre outside America in Visakhapatnam.

“Fintech ecosystem is being strengthened in a big way by bringing startups from all over the world, creating used case repository and offering a slew of incentives to investors. Our overall focus has remained on cutting edge technologies so as to put Andhra Pradesh in the driver’s seat in making use of Blockchain and other latest technologies,” Special Chief Secretary and IT Advisor to Chief Minister J.A. Chowdary has said.

After several years of struggle, those who set up units at Madhurawada IT Special Economic Zone are now happy with the Ministry of Commerce de-notifying it after getting clearance from the State government. “The de-notification of IT SEZ on Hill No. 2 will now offer a five lakh built-up space for plug and play operators. We are confident of realising our dream of making the city the IT capital of Sunrise Andhra Pradesh,” O. Naresh Kumar, vice-president of Rushikonda IT Park Association, has said.

Approach road

The approach road for a world-class IT township is under development at Kapulapada where the government has earmarked 400 acres for a new layout.

Under the Government of India’s BPO Promotion Scheme, the city has bagged highest number of seats in first phase. The second phase allotment is under process.

On the flipside, the IT tower at Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone-Duvvada has been shelved for non-release of funds from Centre. There is no progress on new Boeing-shaped tower at Siripuram by VUDA and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) for allotment to domain-specific companies in petroleum, marine and power due to procedural wrangles.

The iconic Signature Tower proposed at Rushikonda on 20 acres has also been dropped due to poor response from developers.

IT entrepreneurs say creation of social infrastructure, release of incentives promised in the IT policy on time, reduction of power tariff from Rs. 9.50 per unit, establishment of skill development institutes and affordable housing colonies/educational facilities will go a long way in attracting more investments to the city.

New Year revelry: All star hotels house full

Boom lifts spirits of hospitality sector that witnessed a dull season last year

It’s a houseful at all the star hotels and most of the lodges and guest houses in the city with the hospitality sector registering massive bookings starting from the extended Christmas weekend and New Year’s eve weekend till the first week of January.

While the hotel industry hits a purple patch around this time every year when holidaymakers arrive in large numbers to enjoy the pleasant weather in the city, the industry mood is upbeat this year after a shaky season last year due to the Union government’s demonetisation move.

“The city hotels are all packed with bookings done well in advance. The average room rates in the city have gone up by 13 % this year,” Palm Beach general manager and Hotel and Restaurant Association of AP general secretary Sandeep Reddy told The Hindu .

Rooms are all sold out at Hotel Palm Beach for New Year’s Eve.

“We had bulk bookings from Odisha. A 40-member group from Bhubaneshwar blocked 20 rooms in the hotel a month in advance,” said Mr Reddy. Other star category hotels such as The Park sold New Year packages at rates as high as Rs. 90,000.

The hotel’s three-night-four-day package priced from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 90,000 includes tickets for the New Year’s Eve party as well as city tours and special buffets.

“This year, tickets for the NYE party were booked well in advance. This is a new trend we have seen as every year event ticket sales pick up only at the last minute,” said Jaydeep Biswas, general manager of The Park.

Not just star properties, even hotels in the next rung and guest houses on the Beach Road are reaping the benefits of a buoyant winter.

“Bookings for rooms were done by November itself. Most of our guests are holidaymakers from West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh,” said V. Suresh Kumar of Beach View Guest House in Pandurangapuram.

Many others, who landed in the city on Monday from cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore, have had to fall back on hotel aggregators such as Oyo, Goibibo and Trivago to check into small neighbourhood hotels as beachside accommodations and star properties are chock-a-block this weekend.

A holidaymaker, who flew in from Kolkata, on Sunday did manage to find a room at a star hotel but not without shelling out a Rs. 15,000 for the night.

Rates jacked up

The guest houses with basic facilities have jacked up room rates riding on the high demand. A basic room at one of the beach facing guest houses are priced at Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,500, more than double the regular tariff.

3-day festival will kick off with a folk carnival on Thursday

A treasure hunt on wheels, music, dance, food, water sports, helicopter rides, flower show, temple replicas and a lot more. Tourists and visitors can enjoy all these on the 2-km stretch from Novotel junction to VUDA Park during the 3-day Visakha Utsav, scheduled to begin on Thursday (Dec 28).

A special stage with the ‘jatara’ theme is being erected at RK Beach . This will be the main stage for presentation of cultural activities. The festival will kick-off with a folk carnival at 5 p.m. on the opening day.

The treasure hunt on wheels (cars) would take the participants through the places of tourist interest in and around the city as they try to find the hidden treasure. The clues to find the treasure would be given on the mobile app. The participant and his family members can travel in the car as they go hunting for the treasure.

The maximum permissible speed is 30 km/hr and the vehicle should have the required documents and the driver a valid driving licence.

“Vizag, unlike other cities in AP, is a cosmopolitan city and we are dishing out content, be it food or music, to cater to the tastes of different sections,” said Samit Garg, CEO of E Factor Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., the event organisers of Visakha Utsav.

“Indian Navy has agreed to organise water sports events like: sail boat corvette race, sea swimming by divers and search and rescue operations by helicopter. Shops have agreed to offer special discounts and prizes on purchases made during the three-day festival and star hotels have agreed to give dinner coupons to guests through lucky draws,” regional director of tourism R. Sriramulu Naidu said at a meeting with stakeholders on Monday.

“There would be bumper prizes in which buyers would have a chance to win cars or an international holiday trip as part of the shopping festival. Bollywood music director Pritam would present a concert for the first time in Vizag and the rock band Thaikuddam Bridge would present regional and English numbers,” he added.
