The new unit was formally inaugurated by Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas here on Wednesday. Highlights: MRI units at government hospitals in Tirupati, Kurnool and Guntur very soon, says Health Minister Kamineni rules out setting up the cancer institute in Tirupati Speaking on the occasion, the Minister claimed that the facilities have improved significantly in government hospitals and informed that Tirupati, Kurnool and Guntur be provided MRI units very soon. One more hospital which will get both CT scan and MRI is Anantapur, he added. The Minister said one can notice a perceptible change in attitude of people towards government hospitals with improved sanitation, construction of buildings and purchase of new medical equipment. He stated that the government is committed to the welfare of poor. Dialysis facility was confined only to Tirupati, he said and added that Srikalahasti and Chittoor are also having dialysis facility and Madanapalle will also get soon. The SVIMS is having 70 dialysis units and another 30 will be opened soon. Diagnostic services are being provided in house under public and private partnership, he averred. Earlier, he asked doctors to prescribe generic medicines only and not branded tablets. The government will bring guidelines on generic medicines soon, he said. Kamineni expressed shock over the sudden death of Minister Narayana’s son in a road accident in Hyderabad. He paid his condolences to Minister’s family. In another programme held in Satyavedu, the Minister performed the bhoomi pooja for the construction of modern Community Health Centre building at a cost of Rs 7.44 crore. The facility being constructed with an outlay of Rs. 7.44 crore, under the aegis of the AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, will be completed by March 2018. Speaking to the media, Dr. Srinivas said the State government had sanctioned Rs. 7,021 crore for providing quality medical services to the poorer sections of the society. He said the new facility at Satyavedu would be equipped with all the latest technologies and the money sanctioned would be used for the construction of the building. Health profile Dr. Srinivas also elucidated on the State government’s vision to create detailed health profiles of the denizens and the subsequent programmes aimed at it. “We have also launched call centres to deal with Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) factors by offering emergency services to pregnant women by calling 102 and availing the same in 24 hours. We have also launched 297 Talli Bidda Express vehicles which are GPS enabled and till date since inception on January 1, 2016, they have shifted nearly 50,000 pregnant women to and fro from their residences,” he added. Dr. Srinivas stressed on the need for spreading awareness on health and cleanliness, with access to modern medicine. Later, he inaugurated Rs. 1.4 crore worth CT Scan Centre at the Ruia Hospital. Recollecting the situation of the hospital medical services in the past, Dr. Srinivas said there had been a considerable improvement in the facilities and the State government would continue the work done till now. C.V. Rao told The Hindu that the clinical services would be offered through cashless transactions for NTR Arogya Sri, State and Central government health scheme card holders. Speaking on the occasion, the health minister said lack of nutritious diet has been resulting in deaths of pregnant women and neonates in the Agency area. He said that out of total 18 lakh tribal population, about 6 lakh fall under Paderu revenue division. He also said specialist doctors with high salaries will be appointed in the Agency area under the National Health Mission. “The government will also set up a Sick Newborn Care unit in every Community Health Centres and convert some Primary Health Centres into 24x7 institutions to offer better medical services. Plans are afoot to introduce bike ambulances to those hamlets, which are inaccessible due to lack of proper roads. The hospital in Rampachodavaram will be upgraded into a 100-bed hospital,” he said. The health minister held a review meeting with healthcare providers at Secretariat in Velagapudi on Monday. He said that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had launched 222 eUPHCs in 15 municipal corporations and 39 municipalities across the state on November 8, 2016 for which Apollo Hospitals extended its commitment. The Apollo Hospitals extend its commitment to rural and remote healthcare as the service provider for the Government of AP, thereby providing primary healthcare and telemedicine facilities for urban poor population. While emphasising that eUPHCs have been launched to cater the healthcare needs of urban poor, he said the health centres should have one air conditioned waiting hall, expert doctors, teleconsultation, staff nurse, lab technicians, ANMs and assistants. To take dialysis much closer to the patients, two more dialysis units were opened at Kanigiri and Kandukur towns at a cost of Rs. 1 crore by Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister promised to implement all the recommendations of a team of experts from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) which visited Prakasam and Srikakulam districts with a higher concentration of the CKD patients. The two dialysis units would be run by Nephroplus with which the State government had tied up to make available dialysis facility much closer to the CKD-prone areas. With this, five dialysis centres are available to patients, including four in Ongole and one in Chirala under the Dr.NTR Vaidya Seva. One more dialysis centre under public private partnership mode at Markapur is slated for inauguration later. Henceforth, over 500 patients in and around Kandukur and Kanigiri would be able to undergo twice a week dialysis in the respective centres, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. J. Yasmin said.
