Cruise tourism to be introduced in AP

Reviewing the tourism projects at Secretariat today, the Chief Minister stressed upon the need for focussing on the promotion of handicrafts and handlooms by integrating them with the tourism programs.

“All the departments should coordinate with each other to promote tourism. Kuchipudi folk dance should also be promoted especially on spiritual and religious occasions,” he said.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu directed the Tourism Department officials to adopt a holistic approach in order to create an ecosystem in the State to promote tourism. He also asked the officials to prepare a calendar that can provide prior information to tourists about occasions.

Officials and few cruise companies made a presentation about their plans to develop cruise tourism in the State. Plans included cruises from Visakhapatnam to Kakinada, Krishnapatnam and Krishna river with a seating capacity of up to 200 people and spaces for dining and celebrations.

Cruise tourism is a dynamic growing segment of tourism that is slowly but steadily entering the domain of mainstream tourism. The State government has been taking up many initiatives for promoting AP as one of the top tourist destinations. With Andhra Pradesh having a long 974 Km coastline and three majors ports, the possibilities of having cruise tourism in the State are high.

Along with this, the Chief Minister also directed the officials to develop strategies to promote village tourism that can attract tourists to witness the scenic and green rural AP.
