1)for 149 rs cost do we get TV channels too including internet if so the cable industry will be in crisis in the state

Yes, 100 free to air channels. You have to pay for other channels.

2)this is a package of TV channels/internet/Voice... i dont think so we have atleast a package of these even in airtel

3) AP gove has to spend any big amount on this venture for maintenance or it will be a no profit/loss venture There will be different packages. You get basic services for Rs 150. For extra FUP, premium channels, you need to shell out extra money.

lets see how it come in to practicality

lol why crisis to cable industry... even what we pay for cable operators are for paid channels... there lot bunch of free channles in air like news... those will be included in basic 149 package.. for extra entertainment put your money.

BSNL has it long back but not implemented everywhere. http://www.bsnl.in/opencms/bsnl/BSNL/services/broadband/ftth_overview.html

This will be serious challenge to any company in the industry not only for AP govt. that is why they partnered with Cisco.

Yes, aerial cabling needs daily supervison, during monsoon it would be challenging. Don't know if they are leaving spare wire between poles. If they are not leaving wire between poles/ not employing supervisors, this project would be disaster and would reap bad than good

Andhra Pradesh to start Internet-based phone service

Close to 2,500 sub-stations will have Points of Presence from where cable operators can take optic fibre to households.

Andhra Pradesh is perhaps the first State to have obtained a telecom licence and it can issue phone numbers starting with the ‘797’ series from August this year!

It indirectly got the opportunity to start an internet based telephone service ‘without requiring any further registration’ after it obtained permission from the Telecom Ministry for starting its own IPTV — Internet Protocol based Television network — as part of its Fibre Grid project. Although it primarily aims at providing affordable net connectivity in every corner of the State, “the government can provide free telephone services within the region through internet which means you can also skype and have video calls,” explains S. Harikrishna, Executive Director of A.P. State FibreNet Ltd, the special purpose vehicle.

Tenders floated

Tenders have already been called for making available 10,000 ‘triple pay IP boxes’ which can be installed at households and through which the broadband internet connectivity will be provided. Cable TV operators are being roped in for the last mile connectivity and the speed of network from 10 mbps to 1 GB or more depending on payment capacity.

“For a basic cost of Rs.149 per month, we intend to provide interactive connections with digitised channels, internet, wi-fi and net telephony,” he says. Close to 2,500 sub-stations will have Points of Presence from where cable operators can take the optic fibre to households.

John Chambers of Cisco lauds Andhra Pradesh Fiber Grid Project

john Chambers, Chiarman of Cisco lauds Andhra Pradesh CM Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu's Fiber Grid Project. In his interview to MIT Technology Review, John Chambers has said the below on Andhra Pradesh's Fiber Grid Project

"The numbers in Andhra Pradesh are just amazing. They think they can bring 10 to 15 megabytes to the home for $2.50 per month. That’s a magical number in terms of local family income, because anything below 2 percent per capita income is when you really get broad penetration. If it’s successful, India will be a model for other countries to follow."

DASAN Network Solutions announced on July 4 it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to construct the telecommunications infrastructure of Andhara Pradesh (AP) State, India, with Andhra Pradesh State Fibernet Limited (APSFL), one of the major governmental telecommunications companies.

As part of the “Digital India” policy, the Indian government is proceeding with a US$18 billion project to connect the entire region of India through super high-speed internet networks by 2019.

In particular, the AP state, emerging as a strategic investment location with a double-digit growth for four straight years among 29 state governments in India, chose DASAN Network Solutions as its strategic partner for the recent extensive telecommunication infrastructure construction project.

In accordance with the agreement, the two companies will establish a joint venture and start to establish a communication equipment facility production factory in the AP state. With such a localization strategy, DASAN Network Solutions is planning to spread the communication facility supply project in major states of India, while the AP state is expecting production technology transfers and job creations.

APSFL, together with DASAN Network Solutions, plans to raise the internet penetration rate up to 30%, which is currently 2% of the 60 million residents in the AP state. In addition, it is aiming to improve the internet speed up to 10 Megabyte per second (Mbps) from the current 2Mbps.

DASAN Network Solution has been operating a local research and development (R&D) center in Bangalore since 2011 and supplying the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) equipment since 2009 for the high-speed communication network extension project of Bhrat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the central government’s telecommunication operator.
