What’s it about!

Arya (Allu Arjun) and Ajay (Navadeep) are friends since childhood. Or put it straight, Arya forces Ajay to make friendship with him. Arya is always obsessive to be with Ajay. Years later, Ajay becomes big businessman, and once again Arya puts Ajay in a situation to take him as ‘software engineer’ in his company. Arya behaves as Mr.Perfect at his office. Geeta (Kajal) enters into the office and soon dramatic things happen. Arya and Ajay both love her, but Arya tries to make her fall in love with him his ‘tricks’. To avoid, Arya, she starts loving. But suddenly, her father Rajireddy (Mukesh Rishi), a factionist, settles her marriage with Subbireddy (Ajay), a son of another factionist. Ajay tells Arya to go to her village and disrupt the marriage. After Arya setting his steps in the village, more dramatic things happen. Rest of the drama is all about how Arya gets Geeta in the end as his lover.

Analysis

First things first, Arya 2 is not really sequel to that trendsetter, Arya. Nor this movie is entertaining like the original. In fact, Arya 2 is big disappointment. Illogical plotline, silly scenes and confusing second half makes the film a tedious watch. The biggest problem is with Allu Arjuna’s characterization. His character acts more like an obsessive person or like a xxxxxx as he constantly keeps on saying that he can’t live without ‘Ajay’ (Navadeep), he wants Geeta (Kajal) at any cost, and behaves like mentally retarded person when he is not getting what he wants. It is also not clear whether Arya wants – Ajay or Geeta. Arya keeps on saying that he ‘fell’ for Ajay, and gives pecks to him constantly raising ‘suspicions’ about his true ‘passion’.

It starts off well, but post-interval it completely sidetracks. In much of the scenes, the film’s protagonist looks like real villain. And heroine behaves like she doesn’t have a character of her own and reason to fall in love. She says she’s loving Ajay because she doesn’t like Arya, she gets ready for marriage with Subbireddy because her father said so, she marries Arya because her marriage with Subbireddy called off in the last minute, she readies to go off with Ajay again because Arya said so, and so on. So silly and inane. Such is the plot and scenes created by director Sukumar.

Except some comedy in the first half Brahmanandam, glossy cinematography, some engaging scenes here and there, the film is completely disappoints.

Performances

Like always, Allu Arjun looks stylish and oozes energy. But his character lacks fizz. Sometimes, he acts as ‘xxxxxx’, sometimes an ‘obsessive’ lover and sometimes Mr.Perfect. His hairstyles also keeps changing in the film. His costumes are good though. Heroine Kajal looks beautiful. Navadeep’s is very passive role and has not much scope for his role. Shraddha Das is glorified extra. Brahmanandam as HR manger cum psychiatrist provides good laughs before the interval. Erina in an item song sizzles but lacks oomph factor like a Mumait or Abhinaya Sri. Mukesh Rishi does the role of a factionist with ease. Ajay as Subbireddy is good.

Visually the film is stunning with uber cool cinematography by Rajashekar. He brings richness to the movie with his great camera work. Also the artwork by Chinna and rich production values make the film eye-pleasing. But director Sukumar fails both as writer and director this time. In a desperate attempt to be as quirky as his original film, Arya, he crosses all the limits in characterization and ends up confusing the audiences. Devi Sri Prasad’s music is good to listen but on screen only two songs – I Love You, and Baby he loves you – are pretty cool. Some dialogues like Neeku Champenta Kopam unte, Naku Chachchenta Prema undi are nice.

Bottom-line!

Arya -2 is disappointment in every other way. Director Sukumar faults both as writer and director as his plotline is confusing and his hero’s characterization is negative. The film’s hero, Allu Arjun, acts like a xxxxxx and his obsessive love and admiration towards heroine Kajal and his friend Navadeep evoke many suspicions. Although it starts off well, second half, especially towards the climax, is contrived.
