Russian oil for India

Recommended Posts

As chronicled here in other posts earlier, Ukraine war is long coming, also talked about the sponsored 'Coup' by West of Ukranian President Viktor Yanukovich in 2014, subsequent killing of 14000 Russian speaking Ukrainians in Donbass region (Eastern Ukraine).

Killings were carried out by Azov battalion (Nazi group...yes you read it right) and other Nationalistic groups under Ukraine govt.'s watch.

Year 2014, in the above video Nigel Farage (UK politician) was talking in their parliament about excesses of 'West' in other parts of the world (Libya, Syria etc.), and the unnecessary & dangerous poking of Russia by meddling in Ukraine.

Day after, Sergey Lavrov spotlights alternative mechanisms to bypass sanctions

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks on efforts to sidestep the “illegal” sanctions come a day after US deputy national security adviser Daleep Singh warned of consequences for circumventing the Western sanctions for Ukraine invasion.

Russia has put in place mechanisms for payments in national currencies for transactions with India and other partners and their use will be intensified to bypass sanctions imposed by the West over the Ukraine conflict, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

Lavrov told the media after holding talks with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar that Russia is ready to supply any goods that India wants to buy, and that the two sides will work out a way to sidestep the “illegal and unilateral sanctions” of the West, including for the supply of military hardware.

His remarks came a day after US deputy national security adviser Daleep Singh said there will be consequences for countries that attempt to circumvent the Western sanctions over Ukraine’s invasion. Singh also said the US doesn’t want to see any “rapid acceleration” in India’s imports from Russia of energy and other commodities.

Lavrov flew into India from China shortly after Daleep Singh concluded his talks with Indian interlocutors regarding the fallout of the Ukraine crisis and the wide-ranging sanctions imposed by the US and its partners to squeeze the Russian leadership and financial system.

Responding to several questions about the possibility of India and Russia switching to rupee-ruble trade to get around sanctions, Lavrov said Russia started moving from using dollars and euros to greater use of national currencies in dealings with India, China and other countries many years ago.

“Under the circumstances, this trend, I believe, will be intensified, which is natural and obvious,” he said. “We don’t want to depend on a system which would be closed anytime and we don’t want to depend on a system whose masters can steal your money overnight,” he added.

Referring to Russia being shut out of the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications or SWIFT banking system, Lavrov said his country began developing national payments systems over many years “when the nature of our Western partners, who are entirely unreliable, became more and more obvious”.

He added, “In Russia, the central bank, several years ago established a system of communication of financial information. India has a similar system, which is called RuPay and it is absolutely clear that more and more transactions would be done through these systems using national currencies, bypassing dollar, euro and other currencies which proved totally unreliable.”

People familiar with the matter said the two sides are looking at pegging their trade to a third currency in view of the recent volatility of the ruble and using banks that are largely outside the international financial system. A system for making payments for military equipment too is in place, the people said.

Asked about Moscow offering oil at discounted rates, Lavrov said Russia will be ready to supply “any goods which India wants to buy”. This includes oil supplies and high technology items. “If India wants to buy anything from us, we are ready to discuss and reach mutually acceptable forms of cooperation,” he said.

The solution for payments worked out by the two sides also relates to “military-technical cooperation”, he said, without going into details of specific defence deals.

India has been keen to ensure that the Ukraine crisis and the sanctions do not affect the supply of spares for the vast amount of Soviet and Russian military hardware used by the armed forces, or the delivery of weaponry such as the S-400 air defence systems.

Lavrov said it was a “natural route” for Russia to decide to increase trade with India. The Russian side has been dealing with Western sanctions for many years and has the “experience of how to live in these conditions and we are fine and our partners are also fine in that”, he said.

Singh, perceived as the architect of US sanctions targeting President Vladimir Putin, his inner circle and the Russian financial system, on Thursday said there will be consequences for countries that “actively attempt to circumvent or backfill” the embargoes.

“We are very keen for all countries, especially our allies and partners, not to create mechanisms that prop up the rouble and that attempt to undermine the dollar-based financial system,” Singh added.

Pressure has been growing on India to shift its position on Russia – New Delhi has refrained from criticising Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine – and a string of Western leaders and senior officials such as Daleep Singh and UK foreign secretary Liz Truss have travelled to the Indian capital in recent days for consultations on the issue.

On the similar lines..... The other day, KB brother, was reading a few lines of Daleep singh(Deputy NSA -the one who composes the sanctions) about his comments on Ukraine & Russia.  Got a sense & measure of his mind a bit, while reading between the lines. He is giving out his outlook giving a window in to how they view world -  How to best control and get strategic advantage without physically occupying a country(countries) and using 21st century modern Systems, International Agencies etc. Will comment on that further later...

How to put it in few words, his haughty 'attitude' noticed earlier......

---------------------------------------------------------------

'NEW DELHI: US deputy NSA Daleep Singh warned of consequences .'

'Singh, who is behind the sanctions imposed on Russia, also warned that there would be “consequences” for countries that “actively attempt to circumvent the sanctions,” reported news agency PTI.'

----------------------------------------------------------------

Once after noticing the above at Delhi, it is clear, using his talents 'to control' people(may be subjects in his view) instead of equity for all people.  A modern day 'Warren Hastings' or 'Dalhousie' trying to lord with new age sophistry and newer tools at disposal for hegemony.

The underlying attitude is eerily similar, just to sum up - 'Colonial'

This is language of coercion, not diplomacy: Former UN envoy on US concern over India-Russia trade.

India's former United Nations envoy Syed Akbaruddin condemned US Deputy National Security Adviser Daleep Singh for his recent comments on India's trade deals with Russia amid the war against Ukraine.

"So this is our friend...?? This is not the language of diplomacy. This is the language of coercion..." Syed Akbaruddin said in a tweet on Friday.

Syed Akbaruddin also shared a newspaper clip that quoted Daleep Singh as saying, "What we would not like to see is a rapid acceleration of India's imports from Russia as it relates to energy or any other exports that are currently being prohibited by the US or by other aspects of the international sanctions regime."

On Thursday, Daleep Singh also said that the US would not like to see any country engaging in financial transactions with the Russian central bank.

Daleep Singh said India's current import of Russian energy doesn't violate any of the American sanctions, but at the same time added that Washington would like to see its allies and partners find ways to reduce their reliance on an "unreliable supplier". He also said India should not expect Russia to come to its defence in case China violates the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Reacting to Daleep Singh's comments, ex-UN envoy Syed Akbaruddin said, "Somebody tell this young man that punitive unilateral economic measures are a breach of customary international law..."

Will U.S. Sanctions Be 'Suicide of the Dollar?' Spanish Newspaper Asks
BY DARRAGH ROCHE

A Spanish newspaper columnist has suggested that sanctions imposed on Russia over the ongoing invasion of Ukraine could threaten the position of the U.S. dollar as the world's most popular reserve currency.

Journalist Rafael Poch argued in an op-ed for weekly newspaper CTXT on March 26 that the decision to freeze the Central Bank of Russia's dollar assets could hasten the decline of the dollar as the reserve currency of choice.

Poch asked if recent U.S. moves amounted to "the suicide of the dollar," in remarks that echo recent concerns about the trajectory of the U.S. currency as many nations are seeking to move away from their reliance on it.

The U.S. and its allies have imposed heavy sanctions on Russia since the country launched an invasion of Ukraine on February 24, but Poch, a former correspondent for La Vanguardia newspaper in Moscow, Beijing and Berlin, singled out a decision to cut off the Central Bank of Russia's access to around $300 billion in foreign exchange (forex) and gold reserves.

Russia's total reserves are reportedly $640 billion, and some of that is held in Chinese renminbi, which is also know internationally as the yuan.

Impact on the U.S. Economy

"Many observers believe that the measure will be self-destructive for the global hegemony of the dollar, on which the stability of the deficit and monumentally indebted United States economy rests," Poch wrote.

He pointed to the world's reliance on the dollar as a reserve currency since the gold standard was abandoned in 1971, saying the U.S. "has been using that position of power to order the world to its liking and interest."

"You can block payments, freeze assets and confiscate at any time. Now, by confiscating Russia's reserves, an unmistakable message has been sent to the whole world," Poch said.

Poch pointed to other cases of countries' assets being frozen, including Iran and Venezuela, and argued that: "With all these measures, what the United States tells the world is that any country that has its reserves there is exposed to the fact that, if its policy does not please Washington."

He argued that "the conditions are being created for the growth of a non-Western bloc in the global economy that will have a negative impact on the interests of hegemonism."

Poch also cited the fact that Russia has been reducing its dollar reserves since sanctions were imposed following the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and reports that Saudi Arabia is in talks with China to sell some its crude oil to that country in yuan.

"That oil stops being sold in dollars, isn't it equivalent to a bankruptcy of the United States economy?" Poch asked.

China has also encouraged the wider adoption of the yuan in Africa, where it holds significant sway.

Concerns about the dollar's status as the world's reserve currency are not new, however. Analysis from Reuters published on Tuesday suggested that U.S. sanctions on Russia could encourage countries to reduce their reliance on the dollar more quickly.

The Financial Times warned on March 10 that the decline of the dollar risked "harmful fragmentation" that could destabilize the financial system.

'Erosion of Dollar Dominance'

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued a report on March 24 about what it described as the "stealth erosion of dollar dominance" over the past two decades.

The authors said the decline "reflects active portfolio diversification by central bank reserve managers," saying that the "shift out of dollars has been in two directions: a quarter into the Chinese renminbi, and three quarters into the currencies of smaller countries that have played a more limited role as reserve currencies."

Citing the IMF's Currency Composition of Official Foreign Exchange Reserves (COFER) survey, the report said that the share of reserves held in U.S dollars by central banks had declined from 71 percent in 1999 to 59 percent in 2021.

US Increases Imports of Russian Oil by 43% In the Last Week

The United States increased crude oil supplies from Russia by 43 percent, or 100,000 barrels per day, over the past week, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Mikhail Popov reported Sunday.

"The US forced the Europeans to impose sanctions against Russia, while they themselves not only continue to import oil from Russia but also increased the volume of supplies of the black gold by 43 percent over the past week, to 100,000 barrels per day!" said Popov in an interview with the Russian daily Komsomolskaya Pravda.

"Moreover, Washington allowed its companies to export mineral fertilizers from Russia, recognizing them as essential goods," Popov added.

The truth about Bucha is out there, but perhaps too inconvenient to be discovered

"In war, truth is the first casualty." This quote has been attributed to Aeschylus, a 6th BCE Greek tragedian noted for his "copious use of imagery, mythic allusion, grand language, wordplay and riddles." It is only fitting, therefore, that the man who first gave word to the concept of modern-day war-time propaganda would see his quote come to life in the present-day Ukraine. The Kiev government and their Western information warfare advisers may have coopted all of Aeschylus' playwright devices to craft a modern-day tragedy in the Ukrainian town of Bucha that exemplifies the notion of the lie as not just a byproduct, but also a weapon of war.

The main source of the Bucha tragedy reports is a videotape, taken by the Ukrainian National Police, of one of their convoys driving through a street in the town. A dozen or so corpses litter the roadway, many of them appearing to have been bound. This video has gone viral, producing a pandemic of anguish and anger that has swept over much of the world, capturing the attention of heads of state and the head of the Catholic Church alike, resulting in a tidal wave of condemnation and outrage directed at Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin. The cause-and-effect relationship between the video and the global backlash is clear - the former could not exist without the latter.

One of the first lessons of objectivity is to slow things down to make sure that fact is not obscured by emotion. The Bucha videotape is disturbing. The video has been released in its present form, it appears, with the express intent of producing a visceral "shock and awe" moment for the viewer. If this was indeed the case, then those who released it - the Ukrainian National Police - have succeeded beyond their wildest imagination. Or that of their advisors, as the case may be.

The linkage between the dead and the Russian military was established immediately, without any fact-based data to back it up, and subsequently echoed in all forms of media - mainstream and social alike. Anyone who dared question the established "Russia did it" narrative was shouted down and belittled as a "Russian shill," or worse.

That these conclusions are the byproduct of mass hysteria is beside the point - why seek to be objective when the narrative fits every stereotype that had been carefully assembled beforehand by the same people parroting the Bucha story today. Social "preconditioning" of an audience unused to critical thinking is an essential step in getting this audience to accept at face value anything that is put before it, regardless of how egregiously the facts of the story strain credulity. And let's be clear - the Ukrainian narrative of the events in Bucha seems to stretch credibility.

The chronology of the narrative produces the first red flag that the story being peddled by Ukraine, and echoed in the West, is not what it seems. It is established fact that Russian troops evacuated Bucha on March 30. Ukrainian National Police began entering Bucha on March 31, and that same day the mayor of Bucha announced that the town was fully under the control of Ukrainian officials. At no time was there any suggestion by the mayor or any other Ukrainian official of mass killings undertaken by Russia. The videotape in question was released by Ukrainian authorities on April 2; it is not certain if the video had been taken earlier, or on that day. What is certain is that the images shown in the video differed sharply from the narrative initially portrayed by the mayor.

For its part, Russia has vehemently denied the allegations, and has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss what the Russian Foreign Ministry has called the "criminal provocations by Ukrainian soldiers and radicals" in Bucha. The presidency of the Security Council is held by Great Britain, and the British mission to the UN has denied the Russian request, stating that a discussion on Ukraine currently scheduled for Tuesday, April 4 would serve as a forum for any discussion about Bucha.

One would think that the Security Council, which has shown a readiness in the past to meet on short notice to discuss the events coming out of Ukraine, would seek to accommodate Russia's request on a matter of such importance. The goal of the British, however, does not appear to be the rapid search for truth and justice, but rather to buy time to allow the political fallout from the alleged massacre in Bucha to develop further.

One example of this tactic manifesting itself is the reaction of US President Joe Biden. "You saw what happened in Bucha," he explained in comments to reporters, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin "is a war criminal." Biden took advantage of the Bucha crisis to advocate for the delivery of more weaponry to Ukraine. "We have to continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons they need to continue the fight," he said. "And we have to gather all the detail so this can be an actual - have a war crimes trial."

All this from the president of a country which has refused to recognise the International Criminal Court. For reasons which should be obvious to anyone willing to apply some critical thought.

Fortunately for President Biden and the Ukrainian government, the British chief prosecutor of the court, Karim Khan, announced in early March 2022 that he had launched an investigation into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine. Given the high profile of the Bucha allegations, one would imagine that Khan has dispatched a forensics team to take control of the crime scene and oversee autopsies on the victims to establish the time of death, mechanism of death, and whether the victims had died where they were allegedly found, or if their bodies had been moved there from another location.

Khan would also be empowered to conduct interviews with the Ukrainian National Police, who have a history of close relations with members of the Ukrainian far right, including the infamous Azov Battalion. Of particular interest would be any investigation into orders given to the police regarding the treatment of those Ukrainian civilians deemed to have collaborated with the Russian military during its occupation of Bucha.

The results of such an investigation would more than likely conflict with the narrative being pursued by the Ukrainian government and echoed in the West by compliant media outlets and politicians alike. This is the prime reason why Khan is not currently on the ground in Bucha. One can assume that if and when Khan is eventually given access to evidence about the Bucha killings, it will have been manipulated by the Ukrainian National Police to such an extent that disproving the allegations will be virtually impossible.

The truth about what happened in Bucha is out there, waiting to be discovered. Unfortunately, that truth appears to be inconvenient for those in a position to pursue it aggressively through a forensics-based, on-site investigation. If it so happens that it eventually emerges that the Ukrainian National Police murdered Ukrainian civilians for the crime of allegedly collaborating with the Russians during their brief occupation of Bucha, and the forces of international law are brought to bear against the true perpetrators of that crime, any true pursuit of justice would have to include both the US and UK governments as witting co-conspirators in any crime charged.

If one pretends hard enough that the Ukraine war isn't sending already record high commodity prices even higher, do commodity prices really rise?

Unfortunately for much of the world, the answer is yes, and not just oil and gasoline, but diesel. electricity, coal and even jet fuel.

Pentagon Fails To Confirm Russian Involvement In Bucha Killings

As the Europeans and Washington try to stoke international outrage over what President Biden described as "war crimes" in Bucha, Reuters pointed out Tuesday that even the Pentagon couldn't confirm Moscow's involvement.

Per the report, the US military "is not in a position to independently confirm Ukrainian accounts of atrocities by Russian forces against civilians in the town of Bucha" - although it has no obvious reason to dispute the account, either. One official who spoke anonymously called the images of the alleged atrocities "deeply troubling."

The Kremlin, meanwhile, has vociferously denied allegations of Russian involvement in the atrocities, denouncing them as a "monstrous" forgery.

Europe’s Hypocritical Gas Policy Isn’t Sustainable

For the first time, Josep Borrell, the EU’s top diplomat, spoke candidly about the problem of buying Russian coal, oil and gas. Each day, roughly, we are paying €1 billion (euros) to import Russian energy, and that’s, obviously, a source of income that’s used to finance the war,” he said on Tuesday.

Favor the resolution to remove Russia from the sub-committee (UNHRC) forwarded by West: 93 votes
Against : 24 ;Abstain : 58 ; (24+58 = 82)

Brothers - did a rough check of  Top 10 and Top 20 countries by Population, and how they voted and their percentages in Total of world population. These are the results (approx)

Top 10 populous countries -    58.25 % of world population

4.25% ( population representative) voted in favor of 'Western' resolution,  nearly 54% of human population ( either AGAINST or ABSTAIN)

Top 20 populous countries - 70% of world population

10%( population representative) voted in favor of 'Western' resolution,  nearly 60% of human population ( either AGAINST or ABSTAIN)

(Didn't do the rest of the 30% population calculation - remaining 155 countries with very tiny percentages each among themselves.  Lets put 15% FOR ( West resolution )  and 15% (AGAINST and ABSTAIN)
So total could conceivably -  25% population FOR West resolution - Rest of the Humanity - 75% either Against or Abstain)

Three US Intel Officials Tell NBC News That the “Intelligence” Biden Released on Russia/Ukraine Was Made Up

NBC News on Wednesday evening casually admitted that the “intelligence” Biden released claiming Russia was planning a false flag operation as a pretext to invade Ukraine was totally made up.

There were also claims of chemical weapons or Russia asking China for help.

Apparently it was all made up.

NBC News: Three U.S. intel officials admit the “intelligence” the W.H. released re: Russia/Ukraine was basically just guesswork meant to “mess with Vladimir Putin’s brain"

NBC’s Ken Dilanian, one of the Biden Regime’s most loyal stenographers, tried his best to spin this in a positive light.

(Told you so brothers, Media is willingly participating in this 'fake news'  propaganda, Information Warfare- all psy ops,  what ever you may characterize... what you read and hear usually from these folks, bunch of garbage - totally cheating innocent people.)

So majority of world population is not interested in this war which is a good sign. This could be due two reasons

- it has become normal to the people a superpower invading or attacking a small country. People have seen a handful of such wars in the recent past (~ 20 years). This anyway would result in a powerful country destroying that small country ( USA did that before and now Russia is doing).

- Countries are still struggling to come out of the loss created by pandemic. Putin could be smart here as he guessed right what would be the world’s situation at this point.
