Among the most discussed things on social media regarding legendary actress Savitri, people are vividly talking about her 'caste'. To shine on the screen and entertain audiences, one wonders why the name of 'caste' is required. And going by our ancient texts, if caste is based on one's occupation then all these celebs belong to the 'acting' caste only. But still, people are fighting on social media to find out if Savitri belongs to Kamma caste or Kapu caste. Here is a terrific insight. Actually, with Savitri calling her uncle Kommareddy Venkaiah Chowdary as 'peda nanna', even her own surname turned Kommareddy and people inferred that she belongs to Kamma caste. But Savitri's real surname is 'Nissanakara' as her father happens to Nissankara Guravayya and that indicates she belongs to Kapu caste. A tale from the villages in Tadepalli mandalam of Guntur district says, KV Chowdary's wife is a friend of Savitri's mother (a widow) and she wanted to raise the girl as they have no children. Though KV Chowdary, a driver, is not happy with this decision, later he encouraged the girl to pursue dancing and dramas. That's how Chowdary became her peda nanna. So if any logic is to be applied, Savitri is a born Kapu and raised by a Kamma family. So what caste you will impart to her? You cannot disown her or own her, saying that she belongs to a particular caste. It's better if we stop discussing her caste. Attributing 'caste' to such greatest gems will be a sin for sure.
