Chandasasanudu Posted March 17, 2009 Share Posted March 17, 2009 Hyderabad: Junior NTR has been roped by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to counter Chiranjeevi's star power even as the Praja Rajyam leader brought in his brother, another filmstar, into the electoral fray. Large crowds were a signature of any Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR, election campaign. Now two generations later TDP's latest entrant and NTR's grandson Junior NTR seems to be an equally big hit. Junior NTR is the latest star campaigner for TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu and he pulled massive crowds as he made his political debut in a customised van in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh recently. The popular actor was roped in after much persuasion and is already drawing comparisons with the flamboyant NTR. "Junior NTR started from Srikakulam. The response is extremely well and that itself is an indication that people are with us," said Naidu. Naidu has convinced the star-studded NTR family to step out for TDP and Junior NTR's father and uncle Harikrishna and Balakrishna have also hit the campaign trail. Nadu believes it is the only way he can tackle Chiranjeevi's star power. "Certaibly Chiranjeevi's ciner glamour, party base and his charisma as film star has certainly triggered off a kind of necessity for the TDP to kind of balance Praja Rajyam's film glamour with some kind of film glamour," said political analyst Nageshwar Rao. While the seven-month old Praja Rajyam Party is banking on Chiranjeevi's fan following, it's also making sure it capitalises on all its Tollywood power. Chiranjeevi's younger brother Pawan Kalyan, also a popular Tollywood actor, is out campaigning full throttle for his brother. The Praja Rajyam chief is aware that in Andhra Pradesh star quotient matters. The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh will prove if it is all in the name. From Junior NTR to Balakrishna to Pawan Kalyan, while political parties try and place their best star forward, voters only hope that this desperation of political parties to connect with them stays even after the star dust settles down.
