With ‘Patas’, he has taken the action entertainer route and debut director Anil Ravipudi has handled the film. The movie has come in with a good buzz but can it live up to the expectations? Check out our review to know more. Story : Kalyan Sinha (Kalyan Ram) is a daring but corrupt police officer. He believes in making money and encourages rampant corruption in the department. He is adored by his subordinates because he makes them very rich. This attitude puts him in trouble with the DGP (Sai Kumar). When the DGP digs some background info, he realises that Kalyan Sinha has an agenda behind all these activities. Kalyan Sinha also teams up with the crooked and ruthless politician GK (Ashutosh Rana), to irritate the DGP. Everything changes when GK’s brother commits an act of crime that strikes at the heart of Kalyan Sinha. He realises his error and transforms into a sincere officer dedicated to the destruction of GK. He uses his courage as well as his intelligence to take on GK and bring him to justice. How he goes about this is what ‘Patas’ is all about. Plus Points : - This is Kalyan Ram’s best film to date. He looks good in this movie and he has played to his strengths. Instead of relying overly on heroism, he has chosen the entertainment angle and that has worked very well. His performance as ACP Kalyan Sinha is very good, - The film is very racy and entertaining. It is one of the best commercial entertainers that I have seen in recent times, with everything falling into place perfectly. The director has blended comedy as well as high voltage emotions into the story brilliantly. He has also projected Kalyan Ram in the right way, giving him just the required amount of heroism without going overboard. - The supporting actors, led by M.S. Narayana, Prithvi (30 years Industry), Prabhas Raju, Srinivas Reddy, Shakalaka Shankar and others, have done a very good job. They keep the film going with their good comedy timing. Posani Krishna Murali and Jayaprakash Reddy have brief but entertaining characters. Ashutosh Rana is ok as the villain. - The interval scene, post interval elevation scenes and the confrontation scenes between Kalyan Ram and Ashutosh Rana are going to draw whistles from the front benches. ‘Are o Samba’ song comes in at the right time and it will entertain Nandamuri fans in a big way. Minus Points : - The climax is very routine and weak. The tempo ends after the ‘Are o Samba’ song and the last 10 – 15 minutes could have been better. - Predictable and cliched story is a chink in the armour. The makers are lucky because very good screenplay and narration offset this weakness to a large extent. The heroine of the film is not up to the mark. A more glamorous actress would have worked wonders. Technical Aspects : Cinematography is pretty good throughout. Editor Thammiraju deserves applause for his work as the film rarely loses pace. He has ensured that there are no unnecessary scenes. Dialogues are entertaining and director Anil Ravipudi is a talent to watch out for. His grip on narration is very good. He has shown maturity in the way he has handled Kalyan Ram and he has the potential to direct big budget films with mass heroes. Sai Karthik has given the film some very good background score. Songs are also decent. Verdict : ‘Patas’ is a good example of a full on paisa vasool entertainer. It is fast, it is entertaining and it will make you clap with joy when the hero scores a victory. This is Kalyan Ram’s best film to date and it also introduces Anil Ravipudi as a very promising talent. Go watch ‘Patas’ this weekend and have some good fun. He is back with his latest presentation Patas, which is directed by debutante Anil Ravipudi. This action entertainer which also stars Shruthi Sodhi as the female lead has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is. Story:- Kalyan Sinha(Kalyan Ram) is a corrupt police officer who gets himself transferred to Hyderabad. Once he lands there, he misuses his power and starts minting money. During this process, he also encourages a local politician(Ashutosh Rana) who has become a huge headache to the DGP(Sai Kumar) of Hyderabad. Twist in the tale arises when the DGP comes to know that there is a shocking truth behind Kalyan Sinha’s arrival to Hyderabad. What is that truth ? Why did Kalyan Sinha become a corrupt officer ? To know answers to these questions, you need to watch the film on the big screen. Plus Points:- Major plus point of the film is the heavy dose of entertainment. Credit should completely go to director Anil Ravipudi for creating an energetic character for Kalyan Ram, and also adding decent amounts of comedy right throughout the film. Not once during the entire film tempo drops and excitement continues right till the end. Even though story of this film is routine, the way it has been narrated is amazing. This is probably Kalyan Ram’s career best role and he excels in his character. As showcased in the trailers, he is quite energetic and showcases decent acting skills in all his powerful scenes. The hard work that he has put in, be it for his dances or his fights, everything shows on screen. Heroine Shruthi Sodhi is a decent find and looks good on screen. Balakrishna’s remix song has been shot exceptionally well, and is one of the highlights of the second half. Comedian Srinivasa Reddy is the highlight in the comedy department. His role as Kalyan Ram’s sidekick is efficient as he provides decent comedy right throughout the first half. All his scenes with Kalyan have also come out well. Ashutosh Rana and Sai Kumar do their respective roles well. The late M S Narayana once again entertains us as Shining Star Subhash. While the first half has hilarious entertainment, second half has high voltage confrontation episodes. Minus Points:- As said earlier, story of this film is quite stale and old. There is nothing much going story wise and the plot is also predictable. Heroine Shruthi Sodhi has nothing much to do in the film and comes only during the songs. Certain logics regarding the police department go missing in the film. A few fights could have been trimmed to cut short the run time. Technical Aspects:- Music is a huge asset as all the songs are pretty good, and have also been shot quite lavishly. Sai Karthik’s background score is superb and elevates all the confrontation scenes to another level. Camerawork is good and showcases the thrills well. Dialogues are perfect and suit the mood of the film. Director Anil Ravipudi walks away with the cake in Patas. It is his racy narration that works superbly for the film. Right from the word go, he has made sure that there is enough fun and showcases Kalyan Ram in a powerful role. Screenplay is crisp and does not leave much scope for any lags. Verdict:- On the whole, Patas will surely end up as Kalyan Ram’s biggest hit till date. Hero’s powerful characterization and huge doses of entertainment right throughout are major assets of the film. He trusted in writer turned director Anil Ravipudi and produced Pataas, which is an action packed commercial entertainer. What is it about? Kalyan (Kalyan Ram) comes to Hyderabad as ACP on purpose and irks DIG (Sai Kumar) with his acts. He joins with local politician GK (Asutosh Rana) and starts to get on the nerves of DIG. Why is Kalyan doing all this? How is related to DIG? Performances: Kalyan Ram: Kalyan Ram is in his elements in this film. His lean physique suited the character of powerful cop. He has excelled in the confrontation scenes with Asutosh Rana and also tried his hand at comedy whenever needed. This film will surely end his drought of successes and takes him closer to Nandamuri fans. Others: Sruthi Sodhi is alright as the TV journalist. She excelled with her swift dance moves. Asutosh Rana is good as the wicked politician. His powerful screen presence helped to elevate the hero. Sai Kumar is decent as sincere cop. Srinivasa Reddy will provide ample laughs. MS Narayana chipped in with his impeccable comedy timing. Posani Krishna Murali and the remaining star cast did their bit. Technicalities: Direction: Writer turned Director Anil Ravipudi knows how to package a paisa vasool commercial entertainer. He made sure that the film has every element that pleases the masses. He is surely a talent to watch out for. Others: Music by Sai Karthik is average. Except for Arre O Samba remix, none of the songs make an impression. Dialogues written by Anil Ravipudi are good. Editing is crisp and the cinematography is fine. Thumbs Up: Commercial Elements Kalyan Ram Screenplay Thumbs Down: Weak Ending Analysis: The story of this film is not new, but the director treated it in a different way and did his best not to have many dull moments. Hero's characterization and attitude keeps you entertained. Scenes involving 801 vehicle and Heroine are hilarious. The reason behind hero's corrupt nature has been justified well. First half completely runs on entertainment with a bit of action. Pre interval scene has been executed in an impressive fashion which also gives the necessary high during the interval bang. Post interval scenes between Kalyan Ram and Asutosh Rana plays to the galleries. People who love to watch full on heroism will love these scenes. There is plenty of action in the second half and the film runs at a breakneck speed until the pre climax. Arre O Samba song is aptly placed, but the director failed to maintain the tempo during the climax. Despite few weaknesses, Pataas has enough to engage and entertain masala loving audience. Debutante Anil Ravipudi did a very good job on a whole. This is easily one of the best commercial films that we have seen in recent times. Kalyan Ram has a winner on his hands. Watch it. (అశుతోష్ రాణా) చేసే అకృత్యాలకి కూడా ఊతమిస్తుంటాడు. కరప్ట్ ఆఫీసర్ అయిన కళ్యాణ్ సిన్హా తనని తాను ఎలా కరెక్ట్ చేసుకుంటాడు, జీకేకి ఎలా బుద్ధి చెప్తాడు? కళాకారుల పనితీరు: కళ్యాణ్రామ్ ఇందులో తన సహజ శైలికి భిన్నంగా కామెడీ చేయడానికి చూసాడు కానీ విలన్ని ఢీకొట్టే సీన్స్లో చాలా కంఫర్టబుల్గా అనిపించాడు. హీరోయిజమ్పై బేస్ అయిన కథ అయినా కానీ తన వరకు ఎక్కడా తడబడకుండా పాత్రకి అనుగుణంగా నటించి బాగా స్కోర్ చేసాడు. కథ ఇచ్చే నమ్మకంతో ఒక నటుడిలో కాన్ఫిడెన్స్ లెవల్స్ ఏ లెవల్లో పెరిగిపోతాయనేది ఇందులో కళ్యాణ్ రామ్ని చూసి తెలుసుకోవచ్చు. హీరోయిన్ శృతి సోది అస్సలు ఆకట్టుకోలేదు. ఆమెకి ఎట్రాక్టివ్ ఫేస్ లేదు, ఎక్స్ప్రెషన్స్ అసలే పలకలేదు. హీరోయిన్ని బేస్ చేసుకుని ఒక ఫన్నీ ట్రాక్ ఉన్నప్పుడు కాస్త నటన తెలిసిన అమ్మాయిని ఎంచుకుని ఉండాల్సింది. సాయి కుమార్కి ఉన్న స్క్రీన్ టైమ్ తక్కువే అయినా ఇంటర్వెల్కి ముందు ఒక మంచి సీన్ పడింది. తన క్యారెక్టర్కి సాయికుమార్ పూర్తి న్యాయం చేసాడు. అశుతోష్ రాణా క్యారెక్టర్ రొటీన్ విలన్ల మాదిరిగానే ఉంది. కొత్తదనమేం లేదు. ‘సునామీ స్టార్’ సుభాష్గా ఎమ్మెస్ నారాయణ అక్కడక్కడా మెరిస్తే, జయప్రకాష్రెడ్డి కూడా కనిపించిన రెండు సీన్లలో తనదైన శైలిలో నవ్వించాడు. శ్రీనివాసరెడ్డి తన అద్భుతమైన టైమింగ్తో ఫస్ట్ హాఫ్ని ఓన్ చేసేసుకున్నాడు. తొలి గంటలో కామెడీ మొత్తం శ్రీనివాసరెడ్డి పంచ్లు, రియాక్షన్స్పైనే బేస్ అయింది. పోసాని కృష్ణమురళి తనకి మాత్రమే సాధ్యమయ్యే రీతిలో కామెడీ పండించాడు. ప్రాచీ థక్కర్ ఫర్వాలేదనిపించింది. సాంకేతిక వర్గం పనితీరు: సంగీతం ఆకట్టుకోదు. పాటల్లో ఏదీ ఆకట్టుకోదు. ‘రౌడీ ఇన్స్పెక్టర్’లోని రీమిక్స్ సాంగ్తో నందమూరి ఫాన్స్ కనెక్ట్ కావచ్చు కానీ ఆ రీమిక్స్ కూడా సరిగా చేయలేదు. నేపథ్య సంగీతం కూడా సోసోగా ఉంది. స్టాండర్డ్ కమర్షియల్ సినిమాలకి తగ్గట్టుగానే సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ ఉంది. చెప్పుకోతగ్గ ప్రత్యేకతలేం లేవు. సినిమా వేగం మందగించకుండా, అవసరం లేని సన్నివేశాలు ఎక్కువ లేకుండా ఎడిటింగ్ బాగా కుదిరింది. నిర్మాణ విలువలు బాగున్నాయి. దర్శకుడిగా తొలి సినిమా అయినా కానీ అనిల్ రావిపూడి తనకి మాస్ పల్స్ బాగా తెలుసని ప్రూవ్ చేసుకున్నాడు. ఫస్టాఫ్ ఎంటర్టైన్మెంట్, సెకండాఫ్ యాక్షన్ అండ్ ఎమోషన్ అన్నట్టుగా డివైడ్ చేసుకుని ఫార్ములాకి తగ్గ కథనం రాసుకున్నాడు. లైటర్వీన్లో సాగుతున్న కథని పకడ్బందీగా మూడ్ మార్చి హై వోల్టేజ్ యాక్షన్ సినిమాగా మలిచాడు. ఆ తర్వాత కూడా వినోదానికి లోటు రాకుండా జాగ్రత్తలు తీసుకుని టోటల్గా ఒక కంప్లీట్ కమర్షియల్ సినిమాని తీర్చిదిద్దాడు. హైలైట్స్: ఎంటర్టైన్మెంట్ హీరో-విలన్ ఛాలెంజ్ చేసుకునే సీన్స్ వేగవంతమైన కథనం డ్రాబ్యాక్స్: సాంగ్స్ హీరోయిన్ క్లైమాక్స్ విశ్లేషణ: రొటీన్ కథనే తీసుకుని ఆకట్టుకునేలా చెప్పడమే కమర్షియల్ సినిమా దర్శకులకి మాత్రమే తెలిసిన ఆర్టు. సరికొత్త కథాంశం కానీ, కథనం కానీ లేకుండానే... రొటీన్ ఎలిమెంట్స్తో రెగ్యులర్ సినిమా తీసి మెప్పిస్తుంటారన్న మాట. సగటు సినీ ప్రియుడికి కావాల్సిన అన్ని అంశాలు సరైన డోస్లో పడితే.. అన్నీ సరిగ్గా కుదిరితే, ఎన్నిసార్లు చూసిన కథనైనా మళ్లీ ఇంకోసారి చూడ్డానికి ఏం కంప్లయింట్స్ ఉండవు. కాకపోతే ఇందుకోసం ఫార్ములాని క్షుణ్ణంగా అధ్యయనం చేసి... గ్రాఫ్ని ఎలా మెయింటైన్ చేయాలో, పేస్ ఎంత కన్సిస్టెంట్గా ఉంచాలో తెలిసుండాలి. కమర్షియల్ సినిమా తీసే ఆర్టు తన దగ్గర బాగా ఉందని యువ దర్శకుడు అనిల్ రావిపూడి చాటుకున్నాడు. పక్కదారి పట్టిన పోలీసు.. తన తప్పు తెలుసుకుని దుష్టులకి బుద్ధి చెప్పడమనే పరమ రొటీన్ పాయింట్తో రూపొందిన ‘పటాస్’ని అల్లాటప్పాగా తీస్తే తుస్మనేసేది. కానీ దర్శకుడు అనిల్ రావిపూడి తన మామూలు కథని వినోదాత్మకంగా చెప్పడంలో సక్సెస్ అయ్యాడు. కామెడీ ప్రధానంగా సాగిపోతున్న చిత్రం ఇంటర్వెల్ దగ్గరకు వచ్చేసరికి సీరియస్గా మారుతుంది. అంతవరకు తను చేసే బాధ్యతాయుత ఉగ్యోగాన్ని తేలిగ్గా తీసుకుంటూ కనిపించిన హీరో ఆ తర్వాత తన యూనిఫామ్ పవరేంటో చూపిస్తాడు. ఈ క్రమంలో కావాల్సినంత ఎమోషన్ పండింది. హీరో ఎలివేషన్ సీన్స్ తప్పకుండా టార్గెట్ ఆడియన్స్ని అమితంగా అలరిస్తాయి. సాయికుమార్-కళ్యాణ్రామ్ మధ్య మరికాస్త ఎమోషన్ పండించినట్టయితే ఈ కమర్షియల్ సినిమాకి పరిపూర్ణత వచ్చేది. అలాగే హీరోయిన్ ట్రాక్ కాసేపు వినోదానికి వాడుకున్నారు కానీ తర్వాత సైడ్ ట్రాక్ అయింది. ఇలాంటి చిన్న చిన్న గ్యాప్స్ని కూడా ఫిల్ చేసినట్టయితే ‘పటాస్’ ఇంకా బాగా పేలి ఉండేది. వినోదం ఎక్కడా మిస్ అవకపోవడం, కథనం వేగంగా పరుగులు తీయడం దీనికి పెద్ద ప్లస్ పాయింట్స్గా నిలిచాయి. క్లయిమాక్స్ని మరీ సింపుల్గా తేల్చేసినట్టు అనిపిస్తుంది. లాస్ట్ సీన్లో ఉండాల్సినంత ఎమోషన్ లేకపోవడం ఖచ్చితంగా లోటే. ఇంటర్వెల్ ముందు నుంచి, ఇంటర్వెల్ తర్వాత ఒక నలభై నిముషాల వరకు సినిమా గ్రాఫ్ టాప్ లెవల్లో ఉంటుంది. అదే ఈ చిత్రానికి మెయిన్ హైలైట్గా నిలిచింది. మాస్ మసాలా సినిమాలు ఇష్టపడే ప్రేక్షకులని ‘పటాస్’ శాటిస్ఫై చేస్తుంది. అలాగే నందమూరి అభిమానులకి కావాల్సిన అంశాలని కూడా అనిల్ రావిపూడి మర్చిపోకుండా జోడించాడు. దాదాపుగా అందరు నందమూరి ప్రముఖలు రిఫరెన్సులున్నాయి. ఇక ఈ పక్కా కమర్షియల్ చిత్రాన్ని ఏ రేంజ్కి తీసుకెళ్తాడనేది కళ్యాణ్ రామ్ సత్తాపై ఆధారపడి ఉంది. బోటమ్ లైన్: ఫుల్ టైమ్ పాస్! గణేష్ రావూరి Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Probably, an easy One-time watch if you are okay with the Genre. Story : `Kalyan Sinha` ( Kalyan Ram ) is a highly corrupt and arrogant Cop and is ACP to a Zone of the City. GK ( Asutosh Rana ) is a powerful Leader whose illegal activities have become a headache for Honest Top Police Leadership ( Sai Kumar, DGP ). What was the connection between the DGP and ACP and how they end GK`s hegemony forms the rest. Analysis : Patas is a typical formulaic commercial entertainer with equal doses of Power & Entertainment. The film`s 1st Half is Okay with good entertainment and sets tone for the Power-packed 2nd half which is Good. Anil Ravipudi has impressed with his Dialogues and the film is Racy enough to hold the audience interest right through. It has small doses of Romance & Sentiment too, to round off as a complete Masala film. Although there have been a number of films of the same formula, Patas manages to entertain the audience helped by Good Screen-play and Comedy. On the flip side, Audio is weak in the film and has a number of cliches. Performances: Kalyanram has improved in his Acting & Diction and is adequate. He could have been a bit better in a few episodes. Ashutosh & Sai Kumar are quite good and apt. Srinivasa Reddy, Shruti Sodhi and etc are adequate. All Comedy actors are good. Technical Departments: Music: Such a below average music is a let down in this pakka commercial film. Songs haven`t been shot that well either. Nevertheless, Sound Track is a lot better and is Adequate. Stunts: Plenty of fights in the flick. A couple are good and rest are so-so. Cinematography: Adequate. Editing: Cool Job. The film`s Racy enough and hasn`t had any Dragged feel. Highlights 1. 801 Ambulance 2. Bail Episode 3. MRPF Attack Plus 1. Racy Screen-Play 2. Dialogues 3. Entertainment Minus 1. Music 2. Clichés Rating: 3.25 / 5 ( Paisa Vasool Masala Flick ) Box-office Verdict: The film was sold at reasonable prices and should collect career best figures for Kalyanram. His comedy timing & Dialogue delivery in elevation scenes are too too good. Heroin looks bit odd but we can ignore in songs.Sai Kumar did his job very neatly .Coming to other cast , Srinivasa Reddy did very well.Technical Aspects : Cinematography is good, Production values are top notch. Songs & Bgm by Sai Karthik is another plus for the film.Editor did very good job in making the perfect length.Couple of action sequences are also good.Dialogues - Screenplay - Direction : Anil Ravipudi emerged as a new commercial director of TFI by his debut movie Patas. His screenplay is too good & gripping. Anil dialogues are excellent specially in elevation scenes.
