NTR dialogue comes to Balayya’s rescue

Special Correspondent

N. Balakrishna

KURNOOL: A popular dialogue from an NTR film came in handy for the veteran actor’s son, N. Balakrishna, to wriggle out of an embarrassing situation at a press conference here on Wednesday. After a reporter shot an embarrassing question to Mr Balakrishna, the reporter’s mobile blared with a ring tone of the dialogue from the film, “Danaveera Sura Karna”, which goes “emantivi, emantivi” (what did you say, what did you say).

Mr. Balakrishna was amused by the coincidence and remarked that his father had come to his rescue. Later, the actor got himself photographed with the reporter.

Denies charge

Mr. Balakrishna tried to send a message that he was campaigning for the TDP to keep his father’s legacy alive even though he did not intend to be actively involved in politics. “I am ready to do anything such as contesting the Assembly poll or heading the party and even taking up a ministerial position, but only if the party considered it appropriate,” he said.

Mr. Balakrishna denied the charge that his father was back-stabbed by Chandrababu Naidu to grab the Chief Minister’s gaddi. “Everybody felt bad but the situation warranted a tough decision. My father was under the influence of evil and he was being cornered,” he recalled.

Mandate

The actor said he was not making any of the promises on his own but only after a proper mandate from the Telugu Desam. Despite persistent questioning from presspersons, Mr. Balakrishna refused to comment on Chiranjeevi and his party.

Saying that NTR and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu were the two persons who inspired him in politics, he held forth on the possible division of the State.

When asked whether the erstwhile Andhra state would be revived if Telangana was granted statehood, Mr. Balakrishna remarked that such sensitive and complex issues would be resolved by the think-tank of the party. Mr. Balakrishna left for Mahabubnagar district after the press meet.
