Theri's first day collections have broken all records for the actor. It is his highest opening grosser. It opened to stupendous response and collected over Rs 12.5 crore in Tamil Nadu alone on the opening day.The film has also hit the bull's eye in the overseas market by garnering $211,424 from premiere shows in the overseas market.But, despite all these achievements, Theri could not beat the Vedalam of Ajith. Vedalam's first day collections were around 15.5 crore. Many predicted that Theri will beat Vedalam in first day collections. But, the film apparently failed to overtake Vedalam. However, Ilayathalapathy's fans argue that Theri fell short of the target only because the film could not be released in Chengalpet region. Normally, the first day collections in Chengalpet are around 7.5 crore.
