The inner fielding circle(actually an oval) is 30 yards away from the stumps and four fieldsmen needed to be inside it at all times. Failing to which a batsman who got out for a delivery in that case is declared "NOT OUT".

This was first introduced in 1983 World Cup, in which India triumphed for the first time at bigger stage.

In Quaid-e-Azam Trophy semifinal, a premier first-class domestic cricket tournament in Pakistan, Hanif Mohammad made 499 before being "run out" attempting his five hundredth run.

This historical mark stood for more than 35 years before being eclipsed by Brian Lara in 1994.

The narrowest victory ever in Test cricket has happened in fourth test of The Frank Worrell Trophy, 1993, at Adelaide Oval.

West Indies set an achievable target of 186 with more than six sessions left, but Australia were so close yet so far as they were bundled out for 184 and lost the thriller just by 1 run.

In first class cricket, a night watchman is a lower-order batsman who comes in to bat higher up the order than usual, when the light is dimming, to play out the remaining overs of the day in order to protect more valuable batsmen for the next days play.

The role of night watchman is generally given to players who emphasise defensive technique over quick run-scoring. However there have been six occasions when a night watchman reached three digits.

India former wicket-keeper Syed Kirmani made 101* as a night watchman against Australia in 1979.

Javed Omar, Bangladesh opener, got out twice to the bowling of Zaheer Khan for the first ball he faced in the same match. He is the only player to grab a king pair of "first ball of team innings" of a Test Match. May be we can call it as Diamond-King pair!!!.

This very rare incident took place during the second Test between Bangladesh and India in May 2007.

In 1922 at Edgbaston, Hampshire were bowled out for 15 in just nine overs in reply to Warwickshire's 223 in a 3-day match. Hampshire were put back in to bat(follow-on), and then famously scored a mammoth 521 and then dismissed Warwickshire for 158 to win by a comfortable 155 runs.

Hampshire's first innings total of 15 remains the lowest score for a completed innings by a winning team.

There are only two instances of wicketkeepers from each team scoring a century in the same game, MS Dhoni and Prasanna Jayawardene did it in the first test of Sri Lanka's ongoing tour of India.

The previous instance also involved India, against West Indies in Antigua in 2001 when Ajay Ratra and Ridley Jacobs scored centuries.

In 1996 Wills World Cup, Sri Lanka emerged as World Champions and many of us know that Sanath Jayasuriya was adjudged player of the tournament.

But the interesting fact here is that the award was decided to him right after the 2nd semi final(Aus vs WI) and by that time he had just 212 runs and 6 wickets in five matches to his name.

In the final of inaugural World Cup tournament, at Lords, 1975, WI Captain and Man-of-the-Match Clive Lloyd led by example with a thunderous knock of 102 to set the Aussies a stiff target of 292(in 60 Overs).

Despite tremendous start, Australia lost the match as they were shy by just 17 runs.

There are four instances when a captain used every one in the team for bowling, and St.John's, Antigua was the host in two such occasions.

In a test against WI, at St.John's, in 2002, Sourav Ganguly tried 11 bowlers including wicket keeper Ajay Ratra with Rahul Dravid keeping the stumps. The latest being by South Africa vs WI again at the same venue in 2005.

Arthur Collins, an English-origin born in Calcutta in 1885, was First Lieutenant and died in France during World War-I. Nevertheless, he is eternal in Cricket history for his highest-ever recorded score of 628* in junior school cricket match, Bristol, England, in 1899.

The term "carry the bat" refers to an opening batsman who is not dismissed ("not out") when the team innings is closed.

The term is usually used only when the innings is closed as a result of all other 10 players being dismissed ("out"), but not when an opening batsman remains "in" when the team's innings is declared closed, or the game ends when the batting team wins, or the match is drawn because time runs out.

Virender Sehwag 'carried the bat' on his way to 201* against Sri Lanka, in the second test at Galle, in 2008.
