Kashmiri youth questions Hurriyat

SRINAGAR: Disillusioned by separatists, an angry Kashmiri youth on Monday slammed Hurriyat leaders at the mourning of his cousin Kaisar Bhat who had climbed on the bonnet of a CRPF Gypsy and was subsequently run over by the vehicle while it was being attacked by stone-pelters in Srinagar three days ago.

Accusing the Hurriyat of duplicity, his outburst was captured in a video that went viral, embarrassing the entire separatist leadership. However, nine hours after the first video went viral, another video was mysteriously released through a local Kashmiri news portal in which the youth, while admitting he had become emotional, emphasised his earlier statement was shown “out of context”.

He added that the Hurriyat was like “family” to him. In the first video, Kaisar’s cousin Irfan Ahmad is seen questioning the visiting Hurriyat leaders, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s close associate Mohammad Shafi Khan, at the house of the deceased’s aunt. Lashing out at top Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani without taking his name, Irfan says: “You talk of implementing Nizam-e-Mustafa (sharia) here but send your wards to Christian schools.”

Geelani last week had commended Sama Shabir, daughter of Shabir Shah (another separatist), for topping CBSE class 12th exams in J&K with 97.8% marks in humanities. Sama passed out of Srinagar’s elite DPS.

“Kaisar’s two sisters don’t even know why their brother died. Do they know what martyrdom is? A person should be buried immediately after his sacrifice but you put the bodies on display on roads. Is this Nizam-e-Mustafa?

Our Prophet (peace be upon him) never let any funeral wait,” he says. He then tears into the Hurriyat directly, “There is just sloganeering. Give us one answer as to what the leadership is doing? What does a martyr do in his grave?”
