Joint Statement by the International Governing Bodies of Tennis
The international governing bodies of tennis stand united in condemnation of Russia’s actions

A deep sense of distress, shock and sadness has been felt across the entire tennis community following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in the past week. Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, and we commend the many tennis players who have spoken out and taken action against this unacceptable act of aggression. We echo their calls for the violence to end and peace to return.

The safety of the tennis community is our most immediate collective priority. The focus of the WTA and ATP in particular in recent days has been on contacting current and former players, and other members of the tennis community from Ukraine and neighbouring countries, to check on their safety and offer any assistance.

The international governing bodies of tennis stand united in our condemnation of Russia’s actions and, as a result, are in agreement with the following decisions and actions:

  • The WTA and ATP Boards have made the decision to suspend the WTA / ATP combined event, scheduled this October in Moscow.
  • The ITF Board has made the decision to suspend the Russian Tennis Federation and Belarus Tennis Federation membership and to withdraw their entries from all ITF international team competition until further notice. This action follows the cancellation of all ITF tournaments in Russia and Belarus indefinitely.
  • At this time, players from Russia and Belarus will continue to be allowed to compete in international tennis events on Tour and at the Grand Slams. However, they will not compete under the name or flag of Russia or Belarus until further notice.

New vaccine rules could allow Novak Djokovic to play French Open tennis tournament

France is easing its vaccination rules later this month, which could pave the way for Novak Djokovic to compete at this year's French Open.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced Thursday that people will no longer have to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to access venues such as sports stadiums and restaurants as of March 14.

That means Djokovic, who is unvaccinated, could be allowed to compete at Roland Garros in May unless the restrictions are tightened again.

"The situation is improving thanks to our collective efforts," Castex said. "The conditions are met for a new phase of easing of measures."

Djokovic was deported from Australia in January after a legal battle over whether he should be allowed to enter the country, forcing him to miss the Australian Open. He told the BBC last month that he was willing to miss upcoming Grand Slam tournaments as well if they required him to get vaccinated.

Djokovic has won the French Open twice and has a total of 20 major titles, one short of the record held by Rafael Nadal after he won the Australian Open.

The new French rules could also allow Djokovic to play in the Monte Carlo Masters clay-court tournament in April.

Rafael Nadal - Serena Williams Only GrandSlam Pair

Untitled.jpg

Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams are the only male-female GrandSlam PairsΒ in tennis history to win all four Grand Slams together in Both Pre and Post Open Era.

Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal have 44 Grand Slams between them, 23 Majors for the former and 21 for the latter. Both players have completed the Double Career Grand Slam -- winning all four Grand Slams at least twice in their careers. More interestingly, the duo are also the only male-female pairing in tennis history to win all four Majors together.

The pair won the Australian Open together back in 2009, Nadal's sixth Major and Williams' 10th Major overall.Β Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams won their second Slam together at Wimbledon the following year in 2010, the 8th Major for the former and 13th for the latter.

Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams triumphed together at Roland Garros and the US Open in 2013 to complete the collection.

Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams won their third Grand Slam together at 2013 Roland Garros, the 16th Major for the former and 12th for the latter.Β At the US Open the same year, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal completed the collection with their 17th and 13th Majors respectively.
