AP Cabinet approved tourism policy

Andhra Pradesh Government today approved a new policy for leasing out its land for tourism development activities.

The state Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, approved the new policy under which land under 10 acres would be leased out through competitive bidding.

"Two per cent of the basic land value will be fixed as the base price and land would be allotted on lease to the highest bidder based on their technical and economic capacity," Naidu told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

Depending on the size of investment for a tourism project, land would be given on an initial lease of 33 years. "If they do well, we will extend the lease for a further 33 years," the Chief Minister added.

The more the tourism sector was developed, the more it would contribute to economic development of the state, Naidu pointed out.

The Cabinet, he said, also discussed the prevailing heatwave conditions in the State.

"The summer intensity is very high. People should stay indoors between 11 am and 3 pm. The Government machinery is geared up to aid the people. At the same time, corporate houses should also come forward to lend a helping hand under their CSR activities," the Chief Minister said.

The State Government sanctioned Rs 3 crore each to the 13 districts to open drinking water kiosks, supply buttermilk and ORS (oral re-hydration solution) to protect people from sunstroke.

Political parties, voluntary organisations and service associations should also help people in this critical season. "This is an appeal from our Cabinet," the CM said.

Among other Cabinet decisions, Naidu also announced establishment of a corporation to look into the issue of setting up towers of telecom service providers.

He said the ongoing work on fibre network would be completed by July.

Naidu said he has asked the AP power distribution companies to bid for projects in other States. "Our power companies have brought transmission and distribution losses to 10.5 per cent and this figure will be further reduced to a single digit."

The Union Government has asked the AP power companies to advise and also provide technical support to their counterparts in other states on reducing transmission losses, the CM said.
