Don't worry, no division of state now

The sudden political developments following a spate of resignations by 56 MLAs en masse over Telangana issue created a panic in Chief Minister K Rosaiah, so much so that he had to declare that there was no proposal to move a resolution in the assembly immediately.

Rosaiah told media persons that he had not received any official communication from the Centre on moving of the Telangana resolution. “Chidambaram said the resolution will be moved. It does not mean that it will be moved immediately because there is a process for this and there are several stages in the process. We have to talk to people from other regions,” he said.

He appealed to the MLAs not to get agitated over the Telangana issue and resign, as even the process of moving a resolution had not started. “Don’t worry, the state will not be divided immediately. It will be taken up only if necessary and even if such a situation arises, the resolution will be passed only if it gets majority support,” he said.

He said there would be a discussion in the Assembly on Friday on separate Telangana issue. “There is going to be no resolution. It will be only discussion,” he said.

The chief minister, who held a meeting with Cabinet colleagues in the evening, said Sonia Gandhi was seized of the matter. “Let us leave the decision to her,” he said.
