In Indian Test Cricket History from 1932-2012, Out of the total test matches played by Indian Team in overseas, about 12 % of the match was captained by Sourav Ganguly, and has 30% of the total wins in overseas tests , rest 70% of overseas wins came under 10 different captains & rest 14 test captains has never won a single test overseas. Except Sourav Ganguly, 24 Indians has captained test matches in overseas, no one has ever touched half of milestones achieved by sourav ganguly, which helped him to become as India's most successful captain. Thats FACT.

He took over the helm of the Indian team when it was in a crises and backed a lot of young players to perform to their abilities, and turned the team around into a match winning team, in the process becoming the most successful Indian captain of all time.

If there is one player who can be termed as the ‘player’s captain‘, it would be Sourav Ganguly.

The ‘Prince of Calcutta’ was a very gifted batsman. He was perhaps the best offside player when at his peak. With crisp timing and stylish drives, Ganguly made batting look beautiful.

There was a time when the Bengal player reached batting landmarks of 7,000, 8,000 and 9,000 runs in one-dayers faster than anyone!

He held a fine record in Tests as well, and his comeback in 2006-07 was perhaps the most astounding comeback in the world of cricket..

"A GREAT PLAYER is known by his Pluck, by his grit, his ability to face down crises and by his never say die spirit. In SOURAV GANGULY ,India had such a player. Dada made geniuses out of Rookies and converted a bunch of ragtag players into WORLD BEATERS. He taught his team to fight hard and to Ride out every crisis that came its way. In this HARD TIME what India Inc can learn from the GOD OF OFFSIDE is that Knocks are Inevitable but a great player has it in him to take them on the chin and bounce back -- with a smile and STEELY DETERMINATION" - The Economic Times Front Page the day after Sourav Ganguly bid adieu to International Cricket - That is 11th November 2008.
