Hundreds from suburb go to Andhra Pradesh for work daily

CHENNAI: With a proposal to set up an industrial park near Madharpakkam mired in red tape, hundreds of youth from nearby villages are hopping across the border to Sri City in Andhra Pradesh for work every day.
The integrated business city just 10 kilometres from Madharpakkam near Gummidipoondi has emerged as a major source of employment for local youth. Jeelani, an auto rickshaw driver, said about 100 vans ferry workers to and fro on a daily basis. "At least 2000 people from rural pockets in and around Madharpakkam work in Sri City," he said.
In stark contrast, the 750-acre plot of land near Madharpakkam remains barren, with encroachments cropping up all around it, though the plan for the industrial park was put forward by SIPCOT in 2009 around the same time that Sri City was shaping up. SIPCOT observed that at least 3,500 people would get direct employment, while another 10,000 persons would receive indirect job opportunities through the project.
The Tamil Nadu government gave the go-ahead for the industrial park in Manallur and Soorapoondi villages to promote pharmaceutical and chemical industries. The entire land parcel is dry poramboke land owned by the government and did not involve any acquisition except for a one-and-a-half acre plot. The land is lying unused for about eight years as it is yet to receive environmental clearance.
Locals say the park would have also offered brisk business to traders. "The proposed industrial park at Manallur and Soorapoondi villages would have given a fillip to small traders at Madharpakkam, besides providing employment for local youth," said a local trader.
A visit to the spot revealed that hutments are mushrooming and the poramboke land is being used for farming. There is hardly any fencing and boards warning trespassers have disappeared.CII Tamil Nadu state council president M Ponnuswami said the land at Manallur was vital because it would increase the land bank required for industrial purposes within a 100-km radius from Chennai. "Steps should be taken for obtaining necessary approvals quickly," he said.
When contacted, SIPCOT officials said steps are being taken to get the nod for environmental impact assessment. An official also said that notices have been issued to vacate those who have occupied a portion of the land. However, he did not give a time frame within which the industrial park would be thrown open. -

‘జియో’కి జయహో: ఎలక్ట్రానిక్ వస్తువుల తయారీ కేంద్రంగా తిరుపతి రూపుదిద్దుకుంటోంది. తాజాగా రిలయన్స్ సంస్థ రూ.1500 కోట్ల ప్రారంభ పెట్టుబడులతో చరవాణిలు, చిప్ల తయారీకి ఆదివారం విశాఖలో ఒప్పందం చేసుకుంది. రానున్న రోజుల్లో పెద్ద మొత్తంలో పెట్టుబడి పెట్టేందుకు ఆస్కారం ఉంది. తిరుపతి పరిసర ప్రాంతాల్లోనే భూ కేటాయింపులు చేసేందుకు అధికారులు సిద్ధమయ్యారు. ఈ మేరకు సంస్థ ప్రతినిధులు ఇప్పటికే నాలుగు ప్రాంతాల్లో భూములను పరిశీలించారు. పరిశ్రమ స్థాపనతో నిరుద్యోగులకు ఉపాధి అవకాశాలు లభించడంతోపాటు ప్రజల జీవన ప్రమాణాలు మెరుగుపడే అవకాశం ఉంది.

sometimes listening to opposition/neutral also helps cbn . if these works starts now it will take at least 1 year to complete. by that time elections will come. we are missing crucial season before elections. if cbn listen to their advice, this project could completed by june and tdp may reap electoral benefits in guntur and prakasam district.
I know Polvaram left canal has nothing to do with NSP. In general, i was telling about the obstacles.
If I am not wrong for the right canal, the lining should be stopped and start widening it future purpose. I use to hear about the road planned along side polavaram canal, these days i don't hear it. have they stopped?
CBN doesn't need to listen to Opposition/neutrals. I guess he is aware of the situation and circumstances. When he initiated Pattiseema everyone opposed, even the so-called neutrals. I agree regarding the elections, as I said balance is also required.

I don't agree that he woke up now... Ippatike some elements are trying to corner CBN that he is doing good for only KB region. He has to maintain the balance, otherwise the opps is ready to use the situation. don't forget we are also facing issue with funds and on the other side he is cleaning up all the mess on the past irrigation projects.
He is an optimistic guy, sometimes not everything goes according to plan. I am also waiting for water in some rayalaseema areas. the canal has to cross multiple railway lines and govt has to wait for railways permission. its the same for polavaram left canal highway.
Our way of construction pattern has to change. it has to be more dynamic.

Technology is good and it makes life easier and eradicates corruption. But some govt employees are intentionally delaying the greivences saying network/server down. Unfortunately user doesn't have the information whether the server is really down or not. These tactics have to be stopped.

అమరావతి: పట్టిసీమ ప్రాజెక్ట్పై రూ.400 కోట్లు వృథా ఖర్చుచేశారని పీఏసీ చైర్మన్ బుగ్గన రాజేంద్రనాథ్రెడ్డి ఆరోపించారు. ఎక్సైస్ డ్యూటీ పేరుతో రూ.32 కోట్లు అదనంగా చెల్లించారన్నారు. బుధవారం పీఏసీ సమావేశం వివరాలను బుగ్గన మీడియాకు వెల్లడించారు. ఏ కంపెనీ మోటార్స్ వాడుతున్నారో తెలియకుండా బిల్లులు చెల్లించారన్నారు. పట్టిసీమ వంటి తాత్కాలిక ప్రాజెక్ట్కు ప్రతి ఏటా రూ.100 కోట్ల విద్యుత్ బిల్లు చెల్లిస్తున్నారన్నారు. చంద్రబాబు హయాంలో 2.16 లక్షల కోట్లు అప్పు చేశారని పేర్కొన్నారు. -

diniki SAGAR laga to the bottom usage ledu....SAGAR is at HIGH altitude where as POLAVARAM is very low altitude....
Main reason, at polavaram godavari is just 20 meters altitude and right canal is 50 meters
Annagaru...I am optimistic that govt will save around 30 tmc of water till mid-may and start releasing water for early Kharif. in order to send water, we still might need these pumps.

Chala pathetic situation in seema. there were times when i used to rush to the checkdams to see if they are overflowing after a moderate rain. not a single drop used to be there. Seema has to have floods for few years to fill water tables.
Luckily this year we had good rains, but maintaining ground level is not that easy.

Yes Seema ground doesn't need lining. its black soil and rock. Water should flow in seema for couple of years to reach CBN's target of 8mt ground level.

Sri City gives women a boost
Nellore: Gone are the days when women living in rural areas used to work as farmhands or take up some odd jobs. Today, a majority of women from Tada, Sathyavedu and Sullurpeta mandals in Nellore and Chittoor districts as well as from towns and villages from the adjacent Tamil Nadu are being recruited by industrial units in Sri City Multiproduct Special Economic Zone located in Chittoor District.
Women who used to be hired by farmers to transplant paddy or to remove weeds now have a wide field to choose from. They have been working as security guards, assembling mobile phones and making export-quality dolls, dresses and shoes among many other items. Nearly 50 per cent of the 37,000 people working in industries at Sri City are women, according to a survey conducted last year. Of them, 12,000 have been working at a popular mobile manufacturing unit, Foxconn.
With encouragement from the company managements, the shop floors of some of the food processing units like Kellogs, Everton Tea, Premium Ingredients, Lavazza Coffee, Pepsi, and Cadburys Chocolate are dominated by women from different backgrounds. Units such as Pals Plush, Mondelez, MSR Garments, KGI Clothing, Unicham, Colgate Palmolive, etc have a large women workforce. More opportunities are in the offing with six more food processing units have been gearing up to establish their units at Sri City.
According to a senior official of Sri City, C. Ravindranath, Sri City has been at the pioneering end of harnessing 'women power' on the shop floors across its several manufacturing units. The percentage of female workforce ranges a minimum of 14 to a maximum of 90 in various units in Sri City. Over 90 per cent of the workforce on the shop floor of Raising Star (Foxconn) mobile manufacturing company are women.
"Women make ideal workers because they are disciplined, loyal to the company and less likely to cause trouble or unionise. Women tend to get less bored of their work, and hence they are considered as good at work. They need to be given the opportunity" Mr Ravindranath observed. Manufacturing industries in the sectors of electronics, textile, food processing, toy making, etc started giving increasing preference to women in recruitment mainly because of their dexterity in performing repetitive functions for longer hours is one of the major reasons for hiring women.
Seema Nehra, director at Pals Plush, which makes toys in Sri City for the likes of Universal Studios, Walmart and Pottery Barn Kids, says around 80 per cent of its staff are first time workers and are women. "They are from rural areas. We train them initially. But they are comfortable with the sewing and finishing works of toy making," she says. Globalisation has the power to uproot the traditional treatment towards women to afford them an equal stance in society, Mr Ravindranath said.
