Foxconn’s promised $5 billion investment in Maharashtra may not happen All formal and back-channel talks with Foxconn over a period of two-and-a-half years had failed to make any significant headway Mumbai: Foxconn chairman Terry Gou, founder of the world’s largest contract electronics maker, promised $5 billion in investments and 50,000 jobs to Maharashtra in 2015. After years of uncertainty and failed back-channel talks, that promise is unlikely to come true. “Maharashtra must get over this Foxconn thing,”state industry minister Subhash Desai said on Thursday, virtually ruling out the Foxconn investment plan. It would not matter much even if the company decided to not set up its manufacturing unit in the state, he said, riled by persistent questions from reporters on Foxconn. “How does it matter if Foxconn comes or does not come? Yes, I will, like you all, feel sad if they don’t invest, but it won’t make any difference to Maharashtra,” Desai told reporters at a briefing on the Magnetic Maharashtra Convergence 2018 Global Investment Summit to be held from 18-20 February in Mumbai. Maharashtra, he claimed, has received more than half of India’s total foreign direct investment (FDI) last year. In October 2017, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had told reporters that the state was still hopeful that the Foxconn proposal would materialize. But things have not turned out as expected. “All formal and back-channel talks with Foxconn over a period of two-and-a-half years had failed to make any significant headway,” said a senior state industry department official who did not want to be named. “It won’t be incorrect to say the proposal is practically off.” “Apart from the usual issues like suitable land, land acquisition and labour laws, some outstanding issues like India’s standoff with China at Doklam and some security as well as environmental concerns expressed by us on their initial plan to set up a refurbishing unit here have also dogged this proposal,” the official said. Foxconn representatives had not responded to Mint’s emailed queries till the time of going to press Foxconn signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Maharashtra in August 2015 to set up a giant mobile phone and phone parts manufacturing factory over 1,500 acres near Mumbai-Pune expressway. At that time, it was the single largest FDI proposal in western India. The proposal came within a fortnight of General Motors announcing an investment of Rs6,400 crore in the state. The carmaker has since quit India. Fadnavis had visited a Foxconn factory in China in 2015 and engaged with top executives of the company to persuade them to invest in his state. He had touted it as one of the greatest successes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India programme. Foxconn manufactures phones for some of the top companies globally, including Apple Inc. The Maharashtra plant was supposed to come up near Talegaon, along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) was engaged in prolonged talks in 2016 over the modalities of an agreement for land purchase at MIDC’s Talegaon estate. After the “big-bang” announcement, Foxconn became a “prestige proposal” for Maharashtra and personally so for Fadnavis, the official cited above said. “It was a sort of coup indeed to get a company like Foxconn to invest. It came early on in Fadnavis’s tenure and so it was a kind of a trophy. We have done everything we could to realize it but it has not worked.” -

https://www.digit.in/mobile-phones/redmi-note-5-note-5-pro-to-be-100-manufactured-in-india-xiaomi-39585.html Redmi Note 5, Note 5 Pro to be 100% manufactured in India: Xiaomi Xiaomi will manufacture the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro at its two manufacturing units in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. In line with its commitment to make in India, Xiaomi will manufacture its two new offerings - the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro - at its two manufacturing units in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. "Like our other products, these devices will be 100 per cent manufactured in India. Majority of these two devices will be manufactured at two of our units housed in Sri City. We will have more to share on the overall manufacturing front for the country soon," Xiaomi India Managing Director and Global Vice President Manoj Kumar Jain told IANS. The company manufactures over 95 per cent of its smartphones (sold in India) at its plants in Sri City. "We are geared up to take 'Make in India' to the next level by setting up more manufacturing units for other categories (of products) too," Jain added, on the sidelines of the launch event here. The company, in partnership with the domestic manufacturing firm Hipad Technology, recently announced its third manufacturing plant in the country based out of Noida, which is its first facility for power banks. "Among the top 10 smartphones in India in 2017, six were Xiaomi phones. We have 57 per cent market share online and nearly 11 per cent share offline in the country. The challenge is now to defend the online territory and ramp up our offline presence for a strong year-long growth period," Jain noted. Xiaomi on Wednesday launched two devices - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. The Redmi Note 5 is a successor to the highly-acclaimed Redmi Note 4 and will cost Rs 9,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant, and Rs 11,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB variant. Redmi Note 5 Pro will cost Rs 13,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB variant and Rs 16,999 for the 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM option. Both the devices will go on sale on Flipkart and Mi.com on February 22. Xiaomi also launched a smart LED TV called "Mi TV 4" (55-inch) with 4K panel along with HDR10 for Rs 39,999 in the country. -

Stone to be laid for AmritaVishwa Vidyapeetham in February 1st week VIJAYAWADA: Foundation stone for the construction of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham will be laid in the first week of February. The varsity, which will include both engineering and management courses, will commence operations from August. In the weekly CRDA review meeting on Wednesday, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the designs and the master plan of the university which will build its campus in 150 acres in the first phase. The CM is expected to participate in the foundation-laying ceremony along with his Cabinet ministers. It may be recalled here that the State government allotted 200 acres to the institution to set up an integrated university which would also include a 1,500-bed medical teaching hospital. According to CRDA officials, the university, once fully functional, will offer education to 47,000 students. About 2,200 crore is being invested by the management. Later, representatives from LV Prasad Eye Hospital, Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital, Indo -UK Institute of Health and Brahmakumari’s Universal Peace Retreat Centre also presented their designs and appraised CM of their schedules for operations. Naidu told all the representatives and CRDA officials to ensure that the campuses and buildings should look iconic in line with the other buildings. Naidu further reviewed a presentation on the proposed Kalagramam in Amaravati. The presentation included NTR Kala Vedika (a multipurpose auditorium), amusement parks, exhibition centre and a waterfront. The officials also presented ideas for the Urban Innovation Summit to be held in the second week of April. The Chief Minister suggested that thought leaders, policy makers, young innovators and successful people should be invited to participate in the summit. -

I hope this is just the beginning... On both Agriculture side and Industry side, 2017 will remain as one of the most significant year in the history of Anantapur district. At the same time locals should also start investing locally instead of going to other cities like Bangalore/Hyderabad/Amaravati.

Penna varuku ayithe AP will have to do it on its own.. if it is extended to Kaveri, then Center will fund it. once the projects like Handri Neeva, Galeru and other small projects are completed in the next year or so, CBN can use that money for this project. Every year 15k-20k funds avasaram. But TN nunchi chala pressure vastondhi centre ki. North TN ki water levu ippudu... RK Nagar elections lo Seeman deeni midhe campaign chesadu and he got good support antunnaru though he might not win. so TN gola valana anna center might get involved in this project. -
