But 1999 lo malli elections ayyayi.

I was still not eligible to vote at that time, but remember the euphoria surrounding BJP mainly due to the +ve factor of Vajpayee. I think BJP genuinely won on its own at that time.

Vajpayee got sympathy with 13 days govt fall....so he won in 1998 and a govt fall again with in an year created sympathy for him which eventually led to massive wave in 1999....but he didn't do much as per party agenda at that time and was more oriented in satisfying his alliance parties ....which eventually led to sideline of hard core cadre and lost in 2004...this is the same problem with cbn he thinks more of how to get new voters than satisfying his core voters before getting new ......

Yes, i was kid then....but to know that they had alliance with Ntr-tdp...it doesn't matter....google can also help you....

As TGR bro mentioned, LP party got significant vote share in 1996 and the same reflected in bjp -Ntrtdp alliance in 1998....if you check constituency wise vote share of 1996, 98 of both parties , you can clearly see the reason...
