India great Rahul Dravid might be seen taking over the reins of Team India’s chief coach soon. A report in the Times of India newspaper on Sunday said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India's advisory committee, comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, has asked Dravid whether he was interested in becoming the chief coach of the team.

Quoting a source, the report said that Dravid has told the committee that he would think over the proposal. "Rahul has said he will give it a thought," the TOI report quoted a source as saying

Rahul, at present, is the mentor of the Indian Premier League's Delhi Daredevils team. Prior to it, he was the chief coach of India Under-19 team, and it was under his watchful eyes that the side reached the title clash of the U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh early this year. Dravid has also played for and mentored the now-suspended Rajasthan Royals team.

The report says that the advisory committee will meet on Tuesday to discuss the issue of the chief coach. The report also revealed that there was no clarity over the role of ex-cricketer Ravi Shastri whose role as Team India director ended with the Men-in-Blue’s campaign at the World Cup T20. It also said that the BCCI was not interested in handing over chief coach’s role to Shastri.

"BCCI's present mindset can be seen in the backdrop of having watched Dravid seamlessly blend with youngsters across all formats of the game. Further, with India scheduled to play 18 Test matches between June 2016 and March 2017, a proven-hand like Dravid - a veteran of the game with 164 Test matches and 344 ODIs behind him - makes all the more sense to the board right now," the report read.

The BCCI had earlier approached former Australian batsman Michael Hussey to take up the role of chief coach but the things didn’t work out. The report said that the Board is continuing the contracts of assistant coach Sanjay Bangar, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar.
