March 29, 1963 was a red-letter day in the history of Telugu cinema. The biggest hit Telugu film industry has ever seen, Lavakusha was released on that day.

 

Just as Rome was not built in a day, this movie took its time to reach the silver screen. The shooting started on 5 March, 1958 while the release date was 29 March 1963! Lalitha Sivajyothi Films released this movie produced by A. Shankara Reddy and directed by C. Pullaih & CS Rao. It starred the legendary NTR and Anjali Devi along with Nagaiah, Kantha Rao, Master Nagaraju and Master Subramanyam. The music was provided by singer/composer Ghantasala. The movie was distributed by Chamriya Talkie Distributors throughout AP.

 

Lavakusha was the only movie in the history of Telugu cinema to be shot in GEVA color. The director of photography was PL Roy.

 

Reasons For Stating Lavakusha To Be The Biggest Hit Ever Made In The History Of Telugu Cinema:

 

Telugu film industry had witnessed many sensational hits, many records. But overall if we see the longevity of those records, Lavakusha is unmatchable.

 

It was released in 26 centers and went on to have a 100 day run at all the centers. It took more than a decade to beat this record, and this was a first. It had a direct Silver Jubilee in 13 centers. In Gudiwada, (Sharath 140 and Srinivasa 35), there was a shift Silver Jubilee. Prior to Lavakusha, no other film had jubilee run in 4 centers.

 

In one year time, Lavakusha was seen by 1,97,95,529 which set the record then. In one year, Lavakusha was exhibited 100 days in as many as 50 centers (with regular shows) which was an unbeatable record for more than three decades. It
