West - New World Order Aka Globalism through designed International Forums

Western bloc doles out 'aid' to some tiny (pop. Wise) countries as part of 'strategic influence', some countries still have 'colonial dependency', some have 'protection' clauses in their inter relationships; So all works out for the Big players in these  carefully crafted 'World Forums' for the ' New World Order'.........

India - what is its role now

India is Independent enough & doing okay; If India has at least double the economy it has now, the vote would have been emphatically different. 'Abstain' is the current denominator for its inter-dependency
& sustainable approach- collectively devised, but not the goal.

India - What should be its role

If and when India attains even more forceful role in World affairs, it is not supposed to be in the similar hegemonical rhythms & models of 'West'- every which way is fair in seeking material growth.
It is adhering to its long traditions of status as Spiritual Guru and showing the right way to world. Most things are possible with wealth, material growth is aspired in Indic cultures, not with reckless abandon but with the dharmic clutch.  Equitable for all, this is what even likes of Aurobindo envisioned for when India was unwinding itself from slavery.

Ukraine dominates Modi-Biden talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Joe Biden met virtually on Monday morning, as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were in Washington for the fourth ‘2+ 2’ foreign and defence ministry dialogues with their U.S. counterparts. The war between Russia and Ukraine featured prominently in the opening remarks of both.

The government’s readout of the meeting said the two leaders had discussed Ukraine at the meeting, as well as regional and global issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the global economy, climate and “ recent developments in South Asia and the Indo-Pacific region”. Speaking to reporters on a briefing call, a Senior U.S. administration official said that developments in Sri Lanka and Pakistan had been “touched on” but not discussed in a detailed manner.

Mr. Modi, who spoke via videolink to Mr Biden, described the situation in Ukraine as “very worrying” and said he had spoken, several times, with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin and had not just urged peace, but also direct talks between them. India’s unwillingness to call out Russia by name for its attack on Ukraine has not gone down well in Washington, but U.S. officials have also said that they hoped countries that have relationships with Moscow might leverage them to bring about a resolution to the situation.

“The United States and India are going to continue our close consultation on how to manage the destabilising effects of this Russian war,” Mr. Biden said in his opening remarks.

The government’s readout of the meeting said that Ukraine was also discussed. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, a senior U.S. administration official said there was a “pretty detailed and candid exchange of views” on Ukraine but added that Mr. Biden made no “concrete ask” of India and Mr. Modi gave no “concrete answer”.

“The President made clear that he does not believe it’s in India’s interest to accelerate or increase imports of Russian energy and other commodities,” Ms. Psaki said, adding that Mr. Biden had reiterated a U.S. offer to help India diversity its energy imports. India currently imports only a small 1-2% of its energy from Russia as per official estimates.

Ms. Psaki used the words “constructive” , “productive” and “direct” to describe the conversation. She said the call was not “adversarial”.

Referring to Mr. Biden’s slogan, ‘Democracies can deliver’ , Mr. Modi said, ‘The success of the India-America partnership is the best means to make this slogan meaningful. “

“At the root of our partnership is a deep connection between our people, ties of family, of friendship, and of shared values,” Mr Biden said on Monday. The President was seen nodding as Mr. Modi outlined the humanitarian assistance that India had provided Ukraine.

“I want to welcome India’s humanitarian support for the people Ukraine, who are suffering a horrific assault, including a tragic shelling on a train station last week that killed dozens ... attempting to flee the violence,” Mr. Biden said.

The meeting involved a discussion of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global economy and climate action, the government’s readout said, as were regional and global issues, including those in South Asia and the Indo Pacific. The U.S. official briefing reporters said that Sri Lanka and Pakistan were discussed, but not in detail, with more detailed discussions expected over the next day and a half, i.e., during the course of the 2+2 meetings..

At Biden-Modi talks, India firm on not towing US-Nato line

Despite differences on Ukraine, PM Modi, President Biden focus on partnership

WASHINGTON: A diplomatic version of irresistible force meeting immovable object played out in the virtual meeting between United States President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, with Washington unable to persuade New Delhi to follow the US-Nato line on Russia. With no perceptible change in their differences on the Russia-Ukraine war, both sides pressed ahead with other areas of cooperation, including addressing potential crippling global food shortages that could result from a long drawn out war.

Senior US administration officials who briefed reporters following the meeting said the two leaders had a warm and candid conversation lasting an hour and covered a wide range of subjects, including the contentious Russia-Ukraine war and India's defence and energy-related ties with Moscow. The US President did not make any specific demand that India end Russian energy imports, and Modi did not make any concrete commitments to stop such imports, officials said, adding, "We are not going to tell India what to do."

"Other countries have to make their own choices....that said, we don't think India should accelerate or increase imports of Russian energy," a Senior Administration Official who briefed journalists in a telcon said.

Modi, however, unilaterally brought up the subject of the Bucha killings, condemned it without assigning blame on anyone, and urged an impartial probe into the matter. He said he had also spoken to the Presidents of Russia and Ukraine and urged direct talks. He also said India will be sending another consignment of medicines sought by Ukraine.

Beyond this, there as not much by way of support for the US-NATO stand of subjecting Russia to unprecedented sanctions.

The gap between the two sides on the Russia-Ukraine issue was evident even in the run-up to the talks. The White House's expansive preamble spoke of "close consultations on the consequences of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine." The terse Indian preview abjured specific mention of the conflict while outlining a broader agenda, saying the engagement "will review ongoing bilateral cooperation and exchange views on recent developments in South Asia, the Indo-Pacific region and global issues of mutual interest." Both sides had their way without narrowing differences in any significant manner.

Still, differences on Russia-Ukraine notwithstanding, both sides pressed on with a broad basket of other issues after the familiar assertions about being natural partners. India's external affairs minister S Jaishankar and defence minister Rajnath Singh, who are already in Washington DC for the 2+2 dialogue, sat in on the virtual summit with their US counterparts in the White House, and they will continue their dialogue later in the day.

Typically, ministers and officials meet first to lay the ground for the higher level meetings, but in this instance, President Biden appeared to have used her personal prestige and powers of persuasion to move Prime Minister Modi, who has to hew to public opinion at home, on the Russia-Ukraine issue. On evidence of initial briefings, he does not appear to have made any significant dent.

But such is the broad and deep nature of bilateral ties between the two sides, that the wrinkles were easy to overcome for now, particularly with the crucial role India is expected to play in global vaccine and food security. Russia and Ukraine are two of the biggest foodgrain exporters in the world and the disruption resulting from war is placing the onus of enduring global food supply on countries such as US, Australia, and India, which is now a net food exporter.

Annaay NTR dreamt & gave enough hints, had profound beliefs about 'Bharata Desam '; Unfortunately, he came a bit late into politics and time was not on his side to make wheels rolling on that political front.

If the great man were to be alive and were to watch an excellent diplomat standing up for himself (external affairs) and for his community, shooting down condescending remarks and snobby attitudes from uninformed media persons from west with tremendous aplomb, no doubt, would have massively thrilled & proud.

Blinken flags 'rise' in rights abuses in India

WASHINGTON: In an otherwise congenial diplomatic engagement between top US and Indian officials, the Biden administration on Monday struck a mildly disapproving and discordant note by unilaterally raising what it said is a rise in human rights abuses in India.

"We are monitoring some recent concerning developments in India, including a rise in human rights abuses by some government, police, and prison officials," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told the media following the 2+2 dialogue with the foreign and defense principals of India, prefacing the remark by noting both sides share a commitment to democratic values such as protecting human rights and regularly engage on these shared values.

In part, the human rights issues are mainly a Democratic Party concern arising from pressure from its so-called progressive lawmakers. Ahead of the 2+2 dialogue, US lawmaker Ilhan Omar, who recently described herself as hijab-wearing Muslim Congresswoman, urged President Biden to act on anti-Muslim discrimination in India, asking, “How much does the Modi administration have to criminalize the act of being Muslim in India for us to say something?"

The Indian side ignored the comment, choosing not to lecture a country whose Democratic administrations acknowledge its own problems with racism, human rights, and the world's largest incarcerated population.

India too has concerns about human rights in US, says Jaishankar in strong push back

WASHINGTON: Unfazed and unbowed in the face of American pressure, India is pushing back at Washington on several contentious issues -- including the threat of sanctions and its crusade for human rights -- while maintaining that ties between the two sides are strong enough to accommodate differences.

In a blunt rebuttal to the US menacing New Delhi with sanctions threat over its purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system, External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar on Wednesday said CAATSA, the US domestic law that enjoins sanctions for such transactions with American adversaries, was for Washington to sort out.
"It is their legislation and whatever has to be done has to be done by them," Jaishankar said, implicitly declaring that India will do what it takes to safeguard its security without worrying about sanctions.

Several US lawmakers have been railing about India's defense purchase from Russia long before the Ukraine imbroglio, warning of sanctions on New Delhi, even as the delivery of the missile systems began late last year.
The Indian minister similarly pushed back at US criticism of human rights in India, attributing it to American lobbies and vote banks.

"People are entitled to have views about us. We also are entitled to have views about their lobbies and vote banks. We will not be reticent. We also have views on other people's human rights, particularly when it pertains to our community," Jaishankar retorted in one of the strongest repudiation of the constant American lectures on human rights.

The riposte came hours after the annual Country Report on Human Rights Practices released by the State Department on Tuesday, said among other things that government officials at both local and national levels in India were "intimidating" critical media outlets through physical harassment and attacks, followed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken saying the US is monitoring "rise in human rights abuses" in India.

But beyond these critical notes on Washington's censorious approach, the Indian minister painted a broader upbeat picture of ties, suggesting that there is a "gap between (US) policy and narrative" and people in the Biden administration dealing with policy are well-informed and they "understand where India is coming from."

Asked if a prolonged war between Russia and Ukraine would place more stress on US-India relations, Jaishankar said ties between the two countries have the "strength and comfort level to deal with differences," even if the two sides may not agree on all issues.  (TOI)

Pentagon asks top 8 U.S. weapons makers to meet on Ukraine -sources

WASHINGTON, April 12 (Reuters) - The Pentagon will host leaders from the top eight U.S. weapons manufacturers on Wednesday to discuss the industry's capacity to meet Ukraine's weapons needs if the war with Russia lasts years, two people familiar with the meeting said on Tuesday.

Demand for weapons has shot up after Russia's invasion on Feb. 24 spurred U.S. and allied weapons transfers to Ukraine. Resupplying as well as planning for a longer war is expected to be discussed at the meeting, the sources told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

The Pentagon has said that the most useful weapons are smaller systems such as Javelin anti-tank missiles and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, which Washington and allies have been shipping to Ukraine on a nearly daily basis.

Raytheon Technologies (RTX.N) and Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) jointly produce Javelins, while Raytheon makes Stingers. Other top weapons makers are Boeing Co (BA.N) Northrop Grumman (NOC.N), General Dynamics (GD.N) and L3Harris Technologies (LHX.N).

To speed up U.S. government approval for sales and transfers of arms produced by American defense contractors, the Pentagon has re-established a team to respond to the increased demand.

On human rights, India hits back at US

Indian external affairs minister S Jaishankar has blamed “interests, lobbies and votebanks”; points to rights violations in the United States.

WASHINGTON: In the wake of secretary of state Antony J Blinken saying the United States (US) is monitoring cases of increased human rights abuses by Indian government, police and prison officials, external affairs minister S Jaishankar has said that human rights issues were not discussed in bilateral dialogue, hinted that “interests, lobbies and votebanks” had driven the US position, pointed to human rights violations in the US itself, and claimed that India would not be reticent about the issue.

Jaishankar also flagged the issue of a case on Tuesday, when two Indian-American Sikh men were assaulted in an alleged hate crime in New York.

Saying that the issue of human rights had come up in the past - including during Blinken’s visit to India last year - Jaishankar said, “We did not discuss human rights in this meeting. This meeting was focused on pol-mil (political-military) issues.”

He added, “People are entitled to their views about us. But we are equally entitled to have views about their views and about the interests and lobbies and votebanks that drive that. Whenever there is a discussion, we will not be reticent about speaking out.”

India, it is understood, believes that Blinken’s comment - which was one sentence in a fairly expansive set of positive remarks about the relationship - was driven by the Democratic administration’s need to cater to its “domestic constituency”. These include a set of progressive lawmakers, Muslim groups and human rights organisations.

The minister said India also had views about the human rights situation, including in the US. “We take up human rights issues when they arise in this country, especially when it pertains to our community. We had a case yesterday. That’s really where we stand on that matter.”    (HT News)

DOJ Secretly Spied on Journalists’ Apple and Google Accounts

Project Veritas on Wednesday revealed the DOJ(Dept. of Justice) secretly spied on journalists’ Apple and Google accounts.

"Apple and Google have come forward to disclose that between November 2020 and March 2021, the Department of Justice issued nine secret subpoenas and warrants to them for the private information of Project Veritas journalists.” Project Veritas reported.

The DOJ also compelled Apple and Google to keep quiet about the spying.

The DOJ was able to access journalists’ browsing history, payment information and other personal information, James O’Keefe said.

Recall, James O’Keefe last month revealed the Biden DOJ spied on Project Veritas journalists with sealed search warrants then concealed the communications from a federal judge.

Project Veritas obtained legal documents from Microsoft Corporation revealing the DOJ obtained an extension on two sealed search warrants after a federal judge denied the Department’s efforts to “unsupervised and unfettered access to privileged emails and contacts of eight PV journalists.”

According to O’Keefe, Judge Torres ruled that federal prosecutors must be supervised by a Special Master to protect the journalists’ First Amendment rights.

Hillary Clinton invokes China to seek tougher India stand on Ukraine.

Speaking at the Times Network India Economic Conclave, Clinton said the US and the West are trying to establish "certain rules" that democracies can follow against the autocratic states. She said India wants the world to be equally angry and stay with it if China sends one of its massive forces to India.

In his welcome address, Times Group MD Vineet Jain said India’s noisy and argumentative political process may have slowed down the country, but this is what has made the country's ascent deliberate, durable and deep.

Jain said that while India has friends on the world stage, the country is not beholden to any one country. “At three trillion dollars, we are the sixth-largest economy in the world — and in terms of purchasing power parity, the third-largest. We are an ancient civilisation, but not one that is paralysed in the past. We are home to the world’s third-largest startup unicorn ecosystem, behind only the US and China, which is a testament to India’s youthful culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.”(News excerpt)
