Did anyone raise their voice against the unfair treatment of minorities in Muslim majority countries? I'm not saying that India should be like them but our country is a great country which gives freedom to all religions. But are we taking this freedom for granted and not willing to follow simple rules? In this very same country, majority religion is not allowed to follow it's customs in missionary schools. Kashmiri Pandits were killed and displaced from their homes. Missionaries preach against Hindu Gods and customs. People try to convert innocent Hindus. Idiots like Zakir Naik talk against Hinduism and Indian traditions and get away. Why did BJP even get Majority seats in 2014 from being a 2MP party in 1989? What went wrong. The majority religion (me being a part of it) felt insecure and targeted. Yes they are going to do politics and BJP will be in power or in opposition atleast for another 20 years. Only thing we can do is stop further polarization...

Frankly speaking I was a big supporter of BJP till 2015-16 until rift started with TDP.

Anyway I'm not going to post any further in this thread...other than hurting other people's emotions we have not achieved anything here.

Very nice.
(Its great to see new Brothers ( you & 'Only Andhra' ) gracefully and sensitively enunciating & communicating with other brothers your values & opinions freely, and also without too much binding to local affiliations.
Issues like these transcend & go beyond local politics & association to political organizations.   Political organizations have shelf life come and go, but we all belong to a one of a kind, thousands of years unbroken great Civilization/Culture/Country. Dear brothers- you are showing lot of independence & maturity in distilling your views here and enriching this place beautifully, want to give a belated welcoming shout out with much admiration & plenty of affection.)

Earlier only a few used to practice, but the incidence of wearing Hijabs/Burkhas is increasing, PFI is asserting this through its network, first Kerala now happening in areas close to Kerala. We have also seen videos of people promoting hijab wearing and try hijab days on social media recently and some uncles resisting it in a society.

The Ahmedabad serial blasts of 2008 | A recap

India Today:

A special court in Gujarat awarded death sentences to 38 accused in the Ahmedabad serial blasts of 2008. Here's a recap of the incident that claimed 56 lives in Gujarat.

Aspecial court on Friday, February 18, pronounced 38 of the 49 accused in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case guilty and awarded death sentences to them. The verdict was delivered online as all the accused joined in from different jails in the country.

The special court heard the case in Sabarmati central jail initially, but most of the prosecution took place through video conferencing.

Here’s a recap of the incident:

THE EXPLOSIONS

The serial blasts in Ahmedabad were carried out on July 26, 2008, a day after the Bangalore blasts. As many as 21 low-intensity explosions were carried out at 14 locations in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, that claimed the lives of 56 people and injured over 200.

The blasts started around 6:45 pm and rocked the city for the next hour or so.

THREAT
An email, warning about the blasts, was sent to various media houses around five minutes before the explosions were carried out in the city.

LOCATIONS

The places where the explosions were carried out were Maninagar, Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, Raipur, Bapunagar, Hatkeshwar Circle, Sarkhej, Thakkarbapa Nagar, Khadia, Sarangpur, Maninagar, Jawahar Chowk, Isanpur, Govindwadi, and Narol. The targets included two hospitals.

In the aftermath of the explosions, people within the immediate audible range of the blasts said they couldn’t hear anything for some time.

AFTERMATH

The Indian Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack. It termed the terror attack a “revenge for the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Meanwhile, the Indian government, headed by the erstwhile Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, announced an aid of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of the victims. The Gujarat government granted an aid of Rs 5 lakh to the families.

THE CASE

As many as 20 FIRs were lodged in Ahmedabad after the explosions. Fifteen FIRs were registered in Surat as bombs were recovered from various parts of the city a couple of days after the terror strike in Ahmedabad on July 26, 2008. The court began hearing the case after all 35 FIRs were merged.

The police in their charge sheet claimed that IM was formed by former members of the SIMI. According to sources, nearly 100 SIMI workers were involved in the conspiracy, over 75 of them from Gujarat and the remaining from other states.

The first arrest came on on August 15, 2008. The mastermind of the blast, Mufti Abdul Bashir Islahi of Azamgarh, was arrested on August 16, along with 9 SIMI activists. None of the 49 accused has been granted regular bail since then. The only accused who was out on temporary bail is Naved Qadri, who was released after being diagnosed with acute schizophrenia.

The case was mired in controversies. During the case, 24 of the accused in the case tried to escape from the jail by digging a 213-foot tunnel.

Last week, the special court convicted 49 people and acquitted 28 in connection with the blasts.

Over 1,100 witnesses were examined before Friday’s verdict was delivered. The case will now be heard in the Gujarat High Court that will examine the matter further and then decide on upholding or setting aside the special court’s order.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

****** Note: 2008 blasts were carried out by terror group 'Indian Mujahideen'(IM). After SIMI got banned for terrorism links in mid 2000s, 'IM' was formed. Who formed it? Yasin Bhatkal. Where is he from- Bhatkal which is just north of current PFI activities corridor -Udipi/Kundapur/ Manguluru.

Some time ago stumbled in to watching a clip of a few minutes of Barkha Dutt, she was interviewing Vikram Sampath about his diligent researched work on the historic personality you are talking about KB bro. Much to my surprise, even the vacuous Dutt didnt try to overreach with her usual zeal to overperform with empty english, sure she must be mindful of his substance of scholarship in this topic, kept herself somewhat in check. Also most of the other establishment english media folks must be aware of his gravitas in his domain, eventhough some of their natural inclinations and biases go against his thorough research & facts.

India is slowly pacing herself to unshackle from Post-colonial hang over to De-colonization. Carefully built narratives from post-colonial India are flushing away to the unearthing of new facts from the past, new age works like these from the likes of Vikram Sampath only exemplifies that transformation. Great time for India.

The police are looking at a series of crimes that a Bajrang Dal worker, Harsha Hindu (27), in Shivamogga region was involved in for a possible motive for the murder of the man on Sunday.

Crime records for the Shivamogga city reveal that Harsha Hindu was involved in at least five cases of assault and attempt to murder including several communal incidents of attacks on rival anti-social elements from the Muslim community.

It is extremely unfortunate that you are spreading untruths and outright lies to cover up a murder just to prove your point. Here is what she said

"I don't know if we will get justice or not. Our brothers (other Hindu activists) know how to get justice for murder. My brother is dead for Hindus and Shri Ram. "My younger brother died because he used to say Jai Shri Ram. He went because he was a Hindu. He went to dinner last night. We got a video of about 8.50 and people told us that my brother had been killed. I can't believe how people become so cruel. Don't they have children? I pray that every young man from the Hindu-Muslim community becomes a good child. Forget the rest. '

Whenever a Hindu is murdered, for seculars, he becomes a criminal, a murderer, a rapist. His murder is justifiable and in fact, it is an occasion to rejoice, not something to feel bad about.
