As per my knowledge we will end up with only challenges and will face lot of issues/losses.

Suggestion: If you are really interested, instead of starting dairy try to buy 5-10 buffaloes and 3-4 desi cows and sell milk by urself in your farm (or) get small dabbi and sell. As this milk will get cream and ghee people will buy.  You can get packing machine as well to pack the milk to sell.  In guntur SVN colony there is shop called rythu mithra or something which gets milk from surrounding villages and sell.

Ur s cond point is valid for people in city or near by city where people can buy giving higher prices....

Dairy is very risky as we deal with life stock .. work hard you will see the fruits for sure ... but will take min 3 yrs to get good ammount ..

Importantly u have basic knowledge of choosing cows and buffaloes when buying last time post I saw some video posted in which how important it is to know history of that cow or buffalo which ur buying very small details also its important. Some rajisthan/Gujarati guy don’t know but watch his videos it’s very interesting to know these details

Exactly bro. I too dont have big scale plans. I was thinking on the same lines. Just for some 100 to 200 members catering milk, ghee output only.

For self n nearby families, friends etc

Manaki loss rakunda min labor n maintainance osthe chaalu. Health for self and little for society

Are u seeing this as alternative or full time or part time?

I couldn’t find my thread. Will search in desktop app this weekend.

Coming to challenges of diary farming

1. You have no weekends or holidays.

2. Don’t expect any returns until 5 years

3. You should have a real passion to know new things “yourself”. Don’t expect people to feed you with information.

4. It’s like a bio-experiment where you study each animal closely, note down all data and analyze the data regularly.

5. You should plan to develop a bloodline with in your farm. It will take 5-7 years. The females with good bloodline gonna stay with you and you should for a good male every 3 years.

6. Never depend on artificial insemination as this will lead to inbreeding unknowingly.

7. Learn from your mistakes and try not repeating them

8. Always prepare yourself for natural calamities like famine and floods

9. “Patience” is real key. End of the day they are living creatures and there will be some limit even for machines!

10. Last but not least, your life partner support is crucial. If she is out of sync, you are a definite loser!

Let’s say start with 50 Gir cows. You need 2 bulls in good condition. Divide the cows into 2 batches. Like 25-25. Assign one bull per batch. Always breed the bull to the assigned batch and never skip this rule.

Lets say you breed bull A with batch A and bull B with batch B for 3 years. You will have 60-80 heifers with this couplings....

in these 3 years, from your initial 50 cows, filter out those which have less resistance power and low yield.

Initial filtering will be at 50%. Let’s say you sold off 25 cows from the 50 cows. You have to remove the heifers of the filtered 25 cows as well.

The final 25 mature cows + their heifers are your initial gene pool. Every day, gather all data like weight of food consumed against milk yield. You just need to be good in updating spreadsheet!

Once the heifers of the 25 cows start giving milk, wait for 3 lactations, filter again!

you need 3-5 filterings to finally achieve a good gene pool. You will have 100% idea on what your bloodline is. How to feed them, what is the exercise they demand. What is the medicine or disease history. When you reach this stage, you just have to worry about the stud male you bring in.

Plan out this way. It’s a long game. But it will give a great hope for your family and generations ahead.

Super info 🙏🙏.... small suggestion from my end ... being your native or atleast give more preference to your local available cows or buffaloes as most of the dairy’s are failed getting animals from outside

Brother.... one perception is get the best breed cows and start milking X liters of milk per day. If you go by this perception, you will fail 100%.

EOD it’s a living being, it will have relocation stress which will impact its lactation. Your first lactation year will be low as the cows have to overcome relocation stress, get adjusted to the new climate, food, water, new people etc., your second and third lactations will give some idea on the animal’s breed trueness.

again, it doesn’t end here. A good animal has to exhibit its breed nature and “pass on” that gene to next Gen! So it takes a good 5-7 years (atleast) to identify best animals in your collection. Keep them as your base gene pool and then improve.

Always start with at least 50 cows. Or else you will lose lot of time filtering the batch. EOD its a research of gene pool and improvement of the current gene.

50 cows tho start anntey chala expensive bro if you want the best and each cost 60k to 1.2 lads so ruff gaa kooda 35-45 lacs... ROI chLa kastam

Time is crucial brother. I agree there is high capital involved. If you start with 5 cows, and spend 5 years on identifying a gene, you will only have up to 10 good specimen on your hand after spending 5 years. It takes a good 15 years to make sure you have a living. It’s all about number and effort. You cannot simply kill time!

The formula i said above requires about 7 years to settle down as a profitable business and good gene on hand.

Has that’s true bro we have see other sources as well in between sustaining these many years ... through some idea on these as well

True passion unna chota, profits undavu brother! And also, passion does not feed hungry mouths.

What are you leaving for the sake of diary? What are your financial commitments? How much “active years” are left in your life? If you balance all these and plan, then you can sustain. More important thing is “moral support” from family members. Your wife support is crucial. If she keeps crying that you are spending more time in diary than family, Mataashh!

another important thing is, you should train the minds of your kids towards diary. This is really crucial. Those years of hard work should be like a benefit to future generations or else it would end up as a shame!
