Amaravati is a city located in Guntur district in India’s eastern state of Andhra Pradesh. The city is also known as Punyakshetra or Amareswaram. The recorded history of Amaravati and nearby Dharanikota is from 2nd century BCE. It was the capital of Andhra Satavahanas who ruled from 2nd century BCE to 3rd century CE. After the decline of Satavahanas, Andhra Ikshvakus and later Pallava kings ruled Krishna river valley. Subsequently, Eastern Chalukyas and Telugu Cholas held sway over the region. Kota Kings were in control of Amaravati during the medieval times. Kota kings were subdued by Kakatiyas in 11th century CE and Amaravati became part of the unified Telugu empire.

Amaravati is considered sacred because of three things: the Krishna River; ‘Sthalamahatyam’, an important ‘Kshetra’; and, the ‘Sri Mahalinga Murthy’. In addition, according to Vajrayana traditional sources, the Buddha preached at Dharanikota/Dhanyakatakam and conducted Kalachakra ceremony, which would take the antiquity of Amaravati back to 500 BCE.

The city’s built heritage includes the famous Amareswara temple (dedicated to lord Shiva, present in the form of a 15 ft. high white marble Shiva lingam), Mahachaitya (The Great Stupa, built around the 2nd century, with intricate carvings that depict the life and teachings of Lord Buddha), Buddhist sculptures and slabs with Buddhist inscriptions. The major festivals celebrated in the Amareswara temple are the Maha Shivaratri, falling on the ‘Magha Bahula Dasami’, the Navaratri and the ‘Kalyana Utsavas’

 

 

The tallest Dhyana Buddha statue at old Amaravati is being spruced up for Krishna Pushkaralu.

The 125-feet-tall Dhyana Buddha on the banks of the Krishna river can be seen from various areas of Krishna and Guntur districts. The old Amaravati is one of the five holy aramas which are sacred places in the Hindu religion.

Already the construction works of the new gali gopuram of ancient Amaralingeswara temple on the banks of Krishna river at old Amaravati is under progress and now the tallest 125-feet Buddha statue of South India is being decorated for Krishna Pushkaralu. The officials are making Dhyana Buddha as the main attraction of the Krishna Pushkaralu andhence started painting the tall statue.

The government has sanctioned Rs 75 crore under Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (Hriday) and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (Prasad) scheme to develop the old Amaravati into Heritage City.

The ancient Amaralingeswara temple is worshipped as Amaramam for centuries and the devotees are expected to visit the temple. As the Dhyana Buddha is situated besides the ancient temple, the officials are decorating it for Krishna Pushkaralu.

The tourism department installed scaffolding and cleaning the Buddha statue to colour it. Special officer for Amaravati Heritage city project, R. Mallikarjuna Rao said that gray or sandstone colour would be painted to the Buddha statue.

He said that panchayat raj, R & B, irrigation and Hriday project are working together to turn the old Amravati into Heritage city for Krishna Puskaralu. He said that the Amaravati main road would be widened to 12 km extent and the road widening works were started. He said the works of uncomplete guesthouse of APTDC besides Dhyana Buddha were restarted.  

Mr Mallikarjuna Rao said that Prasad funds would be used for the development of infrastructure and Hriday funds will be used for riverfront development, ghats and garden development.

He said that a big Buddha Park was proposed in front of Dhyana Buddha statue but the farmers refused to give their lands and went to the court. He said that recently they conducted a meeting with the farmers offering alternative lands. Hence, the farmers agreed to give 15 acre of land for Buddha Park and the works of the park would be started soon.

అమరావతి, మే 21: బౌద్ధ మత చారిత్రక ప్రాధాన్యతను బట్టి ద్యానబుద్ధ సమీపంలో సుమారు ఆరు వందల ఎకరాలలో బౌద్ధ ఆరామాలు నిర్మించేందుకు స్థల సమీకరణ చేయనున్నట్టు టూరిజం ఎండీ నీరబ్‌కుమార్‌ ప్రసాద్‌ తెలిపారు. శనివారం గుంటూరు జిల్లా అమరావతి కాలచక్ర మ్యూజియంలో జరిగిన బుద్ధ జయంతి వేడుకల్లో ఆయన మాట్లాడుతూ బౌద్ధ మత ప్రాధాన్యతగల వివిధ దేశాలకు చెందిన లామాలు వారి వారి సంప్రదాయాలను బట్టి ఆరామాలు నిర్మించడం జరుగుతుందని, ఆయా దేశాల నుంచి వచ్చే లామాలకు, పర్యాటకులకు ఈ ఆరామాలు ఆతిథ్యం ఇచ్చేలా నిర్మాణాలు జరుగుతాయన్నారు. దేశాల వారీగా కేటాయించిన స్థలాల్లో వారి సంస్కృతిని తెలియజేసేలా బౌద్ధ మందిరాలు నిర్మించుకుంటారన్నారు. బుద్ధగయ, సారనాథ్‌, శ్రీలంక, హూబ్లీలో మాదిరిగా అమరావతికి ప్రపంచ స్థాయి గుర్తింపు తీసుకొస్తామన్నారు. తద్వారా టూరిజం అభివద్ధి చెందుతుందన్నారు.

26న ‘ధరణికోట’పై ప్రజాభిప్రాయ సేకరణ

గుంటూరు: ధరణికోట ప్రాజెక్టుకు భూసేకరణపై ఈ నెల 26వ తేదీ ఉదయం 11 గంటలకు ప్రజాభిప్రాయసేకరణ నిర్వహిస్తున్నట్లు ప్రభుత్వం తెలిపింది. ప్రాజెక్టు వల్ల ఈ పర్యాటక ప్రాజెక్టులు, వినోద, వాణిజ్య ప్రాజెక్టులు వస్తాయని సీఆర్‌డీఏ తెలిపింది.

గుంటూరు (నల్లచెరువు) : పుష్కరాలను పురస్కరించుకుని అమరావతిలో రూ.30 కోట్లతో అభివృద్ధి పనులు చేస్తున్నట్లు పర్యాటక శాఖ జిల్లా అధికారి హీరా తెలిపారు. ఈ మేరకు కలెక్టరేట్‌లోని తన కార్యాలయంలో ఆయన శుక్రవా రం విలేకరులతో మాట్లాడారు. ధ్యానబుద్ధ ప్రాజెక్టు వద్ద నుంచి అమరావతి గుడి వరకు ట్యాంక్‌ బండ్‌ పేరుతో రహదారిని ఏ ర్పాటు చేస్తున్నామన్నారు. ధ్యానబుద్ధ విగ్రహాన్ని పర్యాటకులు సందర్శించుకునేందుకు వీలుగా ట్యాంక్‌ బండ్‌ రూపకల్పన చేశామన్నారు. బుద్ధప్రాజెక్టు వద్ద రిసార్ట్స్‌ను ఏర్పా టు చేస్తున్నట్లు తెలిపారు. అమరావతిలో నిర్మించనున్న మూడు ఘాట్లను పర్యాటక శాఖ ఆధ్వర్యంలో అత్యద్భుతంగా తీర్చిదిద్దుతున్నామన్నారు. ఈ నెలాఖరు నాటికి ఈ పను లు మొత్తం కొలిక్కి వస్తాయని చెప్పారు. పర్యాటక శాఖ ఆధ్వర్యంలో ఈ పనులకు రూ.30 కో ట్లు కేటాయించామన్నారు. పుష్కరాలకు వచ్చే యాత్రికులకు అన్ని వసతులు సమకూర్చేలా కార్యాచరణ రూపొందించినట్లు తెలిపారు. వి ద్యుత ఆధునికీకరణ పనులకూ నిధులు కేటాయించామన్నారు. పర్యాటకులను ఆకట్టుకునేందుకు చర్యలు తీసుకుంటునట్లు తెలిపారు.అన్ని మార్గాల యాత్రికులు ధ్యానబుద్ధ ఘాట్‌కు..

పుష్కర ట్రాఫిక్‌పై రూరల్‌ ఎస్పీ రూట్‌ మ్యాప్‌ అమరావతి: కృష్ణా పుష్కరాలకు అమరావతిలో పుష్కర స్నానాలు ఆచరించేందుకు వచ్చే యాత్రికులు ఏ మార్గంలో వచ్చినా ధ్యానబుద్ధ ఘాట్‌ కు చేరుకునే విధంగా జిల్లా ఎస్పీ నారాయణనాయక్‌ ప్రణాళిక సిద్ధం చేశారు. విజయవాడ వైపు నుంచి వచ్చే యాత్రికులు పార్కింగ్‌ ప్రదేశాలలో వాహనాలను పెట్టుకుని ప్రభుత్వం ఏర్పాటు చేసిన ఉచిత బస్సులలో ఔటర్‌ రోడ్‌ గుండా ధరణికోట పంచాయతీ కార్యాలయం రోడ్డుకు చేరుకుని ధ్యానబుద్ధ ప్రాజెక్టు సమీపానికి చేరుకుంటారు. గుంటూరు వైపు నుంచి వచ్చే యాత్రికులు పుష్కరనగర్‌ సమీపంలోని పార్కింగ్‌ ప్రదేశాల లో వాహనాలను నిలిపి ప్రత్యేక బస్సుల ద్వారా ధ్యానబుద్ధ ఘాట్‌కు చేరుకుంటారు. సత్తెనపల్లి వైపు నుంచి వచ్చే వారు ఆరుడొంకల బావి వద్ద ఏర్పాటు చేసిన పుష్కరనగర్‌ల వద్దకు చేరుకుని అక్కడ నుంచి ప్రత్యే క బస్సుల ద్వారా ఘాట్‌లకు చేరుకుంటారు.
12 రోజులు నో ఎంట్రీ
పుష్కరస్నానాలు ఆచరించి అమరేశ్వరుని దర్శించుకునే భక్తులు స్వామివారిని దర్శించి కాలినడకన పార్కింగ్‌ ప్రదేశాలకు చేరుకోవాల్సి ఉంటుంది. ప్రభు త్వం ఏర్పాటు చేసిన ప్రత్యేక బస్సులు తిరుగు ప్రయాణంలో పొలీసు స్టేషన్‌ ఎదురుగా ఉన్న జైయిల్‌సింగ్‌ రోడ్‌ మీదుగా సత్తెనపల్లిరోడ్‌, గుంటూరు రోడ్‌, విజయవాడ రోడ్‌కు యాత్రికులను చేరవేస్తాయి. పార్కింగ్‌లోని ఎవరి వాహనాలు వారు తీసుకుని వచ్చిన మా ర్గంలోనే వెళ్లాల్సి ఉంటుంది. ఈ రహదారులు మినహా గ్రామంలో వాహనాలు 12 రోజుల పాటు తిరిగే అవకాశం లేదు. రూట్‌ మ్యాప్‌ను పరిశీలించిన ఇన్‌చార్జి డీజీపీ సాంబశివరావు ఎస్పీ నారాయణనాయక్‌ను అభినందించారు.
