Very soon Kotappakonda is going to have a new feather in its cap. Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has conducted a feasibility study and proposed to develop an aerial ropeway on Kotappakonda Hill. It has submitted a positive report to Andhra Pradesh government, that this project would be feasible. Once government approves, the tender’s would be called to start the works.

The present mode of transportation to the hill shrine is by road. If ropeway is laid, it will attract the visitors and tourism will also increase.

Also a new eco park is going to set up at Kotappakonda, which includes a huge aquarium, a toy train and bot riding. The mini zoo which is already there would also be expanded.

APTDC proposes beach resort at Sagarnagar

Visakhapatnam: The AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is planning to develop a beach resort near Sagarnagar at an estimated cost of around Rs 48 crore on a public-private-partnership model.

Located at about 500 metres from the beach road, the proposed four-star beach resort will be spread over an area of three acres at Sagarnagar, which is about 8 km away from RK Beach. The resort will have around 60 rooms with 15 suites and facilities like a multi-cuisine restaurant, specialty restaurant, lounge bar and a swimming pool.

According to a tourism department official, the project is expected to take around one-and-half-years to be completed once the developers are identified and the concession agreement is signed with APTDC.

"The land will be provided by the APTDC while the developer will provide a revenue share from the earnings to the government. The project will be on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) model for a period of 33 years," the APTDC official said.

While Rushikonda beach and RK beach are usually crowded with tourists, the Sagarnagar beach at present witnesses low footfall because not much facilities are available on that beach. The Sagarnagar beach can be quite an attractive proposition for visitors as it is much closer than Rushikonda from the city and less crowded than the other beaches," said a hotelier, adding that planning the project on a PPP basis is better as services offered by government-run hotels are quite lacklustre when compared to private hotels. "Already, one entrepreneur is offering parasailing on the Sagarnagar beach stretch. If the government allows a few more water sporting activities on this stretch, then it can turn out to be crowd-puller," he added.

Apart from Sagarnagar, the state government is in the process of developing beaches at Yendada, Thotlakonda and Mangamaripeta to attract visitors by providing food courts, washrooms and other amenities in the city.

At present, APTDC runs a resort at Rushikonda and another hotel at Appughar on Beach Road. Apart from these two, private beach resorts have been developed near Sagarnagar and Rushikonda.
