What Will Be The Total Gross Of Singh Is Kinng?
Q. Singh Is Kinng has smashed the box office and Akshay is at an all time high so will Chandni Chowk to China break the records of Singh Is Kinng?
A. Basically Chandni Chowk To China, Ghajini and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi will be expected to beat Singh Is Kinng opening as makers will try and get wider releases for these films. But it remains to be seen if exhibitors and distributors are as confident at the time of release to enable these films to get a bigger release than Singh is Kinng. The first three days are so huge for Singh Is Kinng that it is going to be tough for the other biggies this year to beat its opening records especially in B+C centres where Singh Is Kinng collections are out of this world.
V Mehta, India
Q. How will Bachna Ae Haseeno open?
A. It should open very well in metroes, other cities could be affected by Singh Is Kinng.
Shahid Hussain, UK
Q. What will be the total gross of Singh Is Kinng?
A. A good estimate can be given only after 10 days. But one thing is for sure it is going to be huge and a record holder in many circuits. It is a box office juggernaut at the moment all over.
Karan Arora, Canada
Q. If Singh Is Kinng made 8 crore on Friday and collections are set to get to 10 crore over the weekend does that not mean the film did not open well and was only 80%?
A. The capacities are higher over the weekend. The ticket rates at most multiplexes are higher, that is a big reason why the collections improve over the weekend and with a huge record breaker like Singh Is Kinng, the single screens are adding extra shows starting at 6.00am in the morning due to demand to further increase the capacity.

Pakistan In A Frenzy Over Singh is Kinng
The unparalleled frenzy continues in Pakistan. Singh is Kinng doing in the country what even their own films have not been able to do. Taj Mahal cinema in Faisalabad was sold out all day today and for the 9 PM show they had to accommodate another 350 people at the show due to the crowd desperate to watch the move. The capacity is 500 but for this show there were 850 people sitting on the floor wherever space was available.
Show collection of 170%. Simply Mindboggling!

Unbelievable 29 Crore For Singh Is Kinng
Singh Is Kinng is grossed an unheard of 29 crore nett over its first weekend. The gross figure is 45 crore.
The film smashed the 22 crore weekend record held by Om Shanti Om by a huge margin. The business is unbelievable all over but the business in Delhi/UP, East Punjab, Bihar and Rajasthan is just out of this world. In these territories the first week business will be like the total business of superhit films like Race and Jodhaa Akbar.

The three day overseas business looks set to be around 14 crore taking it amongst the top three overseas weekend openers ever.

Singh Is Kinng Rock Steady In North Monday Drop Elsewhere
Singh Is Kinng remained rock steady in Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Rajasthan as it recorded an amazing 75%+ collections on the huge volume of shows on Monday. The film looks set to emerge the biggest grosser ever in these circuits. The long standing records of Gadar look set to be surpassed.
Elsewhere in India, the collections showed the normal Monday drop as collections ranged from 40-55% at multiplexes. Even at this rate the collections will be healthy as the release is huge.
Overall the first week is heading for 45-50 crore nett business depending on what happens in the next few days. The film is already the fourth biggest grosser of 2008 in just four days.

Singh Is Emperor
- By Taran Adarsh, August 13, 2008 - 08:31 IST
SINGH IS KINNG has fetched a fantabulous start in Overseas. The opening weekend has been historic everywhere, a close second to last year's blockbuster hit OM SHANTI OM. In U.K., the film has emerged the biggest opener of 2008, crossing RACE and JODHAA AKBAR. It is also Akshay Kumar's biggest opener to date. In America, SINGH IS KINNG has fetched an equally electrifying start. In fact, it's one of the biggest starts ever. Ditto for Australia, where the screen average is higher than even Hollywood biggies like THE DARK KNIGHT, MAMMA MIA, WANTED and new release PINEAPPLE EXPRESS. In UAE too, the film has opened to an earth-shattering response. The combined total from these 4 markets itself is close to Rs. 11 crores in just 3 days. Outstanding!

'Singh Is Kinng' rocks Pakistan; Incredible collections!
-By Taran Adarsh, August 13, 2008 - 10:51 IST Another EXCLUSIVE and ONLY on 'Bollywood Hungama'.
SINGH IS KINNG is ruling the hearts. In India. In U.K. In America. In Gulf. In Australia. And also Pakistan. Here's the proof. First, let's have a look at the day-wise collections in Pakistan:-
Friday: 9,39,748; Saturday: 18,20,881; Sunday: 21,70,047; Monday: 13,10,783; Total: 62,41,459.
According to the distributor in Pakistan, the delay of prints caused:
* Loss of around 25 to 30 lakh rupees of business on Friday ALONE, as it did not play in several cities. Friday is a holiday in Pakistan and in most cities, the only day off for people.
* The film could have done a business of over 1 crore in the first week alone.
"In Lahore, we tried to control the panic at least by circulating the print in 4 cinemas, using the only print (censor print) we had," the distributor adds.
The Gross figures between Friday, 8th August till close of Monday, 11th August:
Lahore:
DHA 15,83,585, Sozo 7,54,710, Plaza 4,54,500, Prince 4,30,070, Tarranum 50,000 - Fixed Hire for a week. Started playing from Saturday. Suburb cinema.
Gujranwala:
No shows at 3 pm and 6 pm on Friday. Thousands of people returned disappointed. Prince 1,44,050, Zinco Palace 2,93,935.
Gujarat:
No shows at 3 pm and 6 pm on Friday.
Faisal 1,34,400
Gross figures between Saturday, 9th August till close of Monday, 11th August for the remaining cities where the movie did not play on Friday, 8th August:
Karachi:
Nishat 7,20,050, Cineplex 1,23,200 - they played 1 show only on Sat, Sun and Mon and will probably play one show a day until Thursday, 14th August. They had to go for an alternate schedule and will now play movie from 15th onwards.
Bambino 3,50,790
Hyderabad:
New Majestic 2,01,289
Faisalabad:
Taj Mahal 5,70,000
Multan:
Dreamland 3,31,090
Sargodha:
Khayyam 1,33,090
Distributor's comment:- There is a sharp drop in the figures on Monday due to torrential rains across Punjab and other areas of Pakistan from Sunday, 10th August night onwards. The good thing is that these figures, despite the mishap of Friday and rains in Punjab on Sunday night onwards, has sent shockwaves in the Pakistani Cinema Industry, as it has proved to be one of the biggest openings ever. Imagine what the business would have been if we had multiplexes in Pakistan.

Who Is The King?
After the mega opening of Singh Is Kinng there is much attention by the trade and media to who is the king of the industry, King Khan or King Kumar. Both actors stand head and shoulders above the pack today and the media and trade is split as to who is No1.
The jury is still out but at the moment but it seems Akshay Kumar has edged ahead in India after Singh is Kinng while Shahrukh Khan remains ahead on a worldwide basis. Both actors have big releases coming in the next few months which could make a difference.
The jury may be out still to decide on the king actor but there is no such thing as far as directors are concerned. Anees Bazmee is the undisputed king as far as direction is concerned. The media shy director has notched up three superhit/blockbuster films in the last three years in No Entry, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng, all huge hits and is by far the distributors favourite across all the major circuits.

Singh Is Kinng Sets First Week Record In Pakistan
Singh Is Kinng has grossed 1,12,53,344 in its first week in Pakistan. This is more than Akshay Kumar's Welcome did in its whole run though that films was released four weeks late.
In Lahore it collected a historic 25.50 lakhs from DHA cinema. At other places the film had shows a 1am and 2am at night due to demand.
The collections are from only 13 prints and at most places had a six day week due to late arrival of prints.

Singh Is Kinng V Om Shanti Om
Singh Is Kinng has managed to cruise past the first week total of Om Shanti Om thanks to its humungous business in the North.
Both films have done similar business in Mumbai and CPCI, Om Shanti Om is better in Bengal and South but Singh Is Kinng is way ahead in Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Rajasthan.
In Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Rajasthan, Singh Is Kinng has smashed every record whether it was held by Om Shanti Om, Welcome or Race.

The Craze Of Singh Is Kinng In North
The craze of Singh Is Kinng in the North can be gauged by the business it has done in Rohtak, a small town in Haryana. Singh is Kinng grossed 14,90,940 from Sheela cinema in Rohtak, before this no film had even grossed 7 lakhs in one week at the theatre. The film is rock steady at the theatre as it grossed 8,15,000 in its first 3 days and 6,75,940 over the weekdays.
Singh Is Kinng had a much better 8th day in Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Rajasthan than the first day of the new releases Bachna Ae Haseeno and God Tussi Great Ho who themselves were good and decent respectively.

Bachna Ae Haseeno,God Tussi Great Ho and Singh Is Kinng Bring Cheer
Bachna Ae Haseeno opens to a good response of 75-80%. The multiplexes in big cities were better at 90%+ but North India has been affected a bit by the Singh Is Kinng wave. Overall the film will earn good money due to good multiplex business and is a winner for Yashraj Films after some time.
God Tussi Great Ho opened to a average response of 50-60% response, some smaller centers are better at 80%+ due to the Salman Khan factor and the film may well cover costs even though it has been in the making for sometime.
Singh Is Kinng has had a record breaking first week of around 44.50 crore nett. It has re-written history in Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Rajasthan. On its 8th day it is continuing with historic collections in the North while other places are steady around 60-70% with a reduction of shows.
Ugly Aur Pagli will finish its run on 8 crore nett. FLOP
Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na adds another 1 crore to take its total to 54 crore. BLOCKBUSTER

King Akshay gives Salman, Ranbir run for money
New Delhi, Aug 14: Two romantic comedies "Bachna Ae Haseeno" and "God Tussi Great Ho" - both releasing Friday - are getting a cold response at the ticket counter in terms of advance bookings, thanks to the overwhelming reaction to last week's release, "Singh is Kinng".
The films are releasing over a long weekend that marks Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan celebrations. But distributors and cinema owners in Delhi are keeping the Akshay Kumar starrer on regular screening slots because it is doing good business.
"'Singh is...', which released last week, is still going strong and would be the first choice of family audiences during the festival weekend," Joginder Mahajan, a Delhi-based distributor, said.
"'Bachna Ae...' is only for the young audience vis-à-vis 'God Tussi...', which is a film for the masses because of Salman Khan's presence."
"There has also been no pre-release tempo preceding both the films. Even their music has not made a mark in comparison to the music of 'Singh is Kinng' that is still driving people crazy," he added.
Director Siddharth Anand's "Bachna Ae..." is the story of a Casanova, played by Ranbir Kapoor, and his three girlfriends - Deepika Padukone, Minissha Lamba and Bipasha Basu.
"God Tussi..." by Rumy Jafry is said to be a remake of Hollywood movie "Bruce Almighty" and stars Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. Amitabh Bachchan too features in the movie as the almighty.
In terms of budget, producer Afzal Khan invested around Rs 400 million in "God Tussi..." and comparatively Yash Raj Films' (YRF) "Bachna Ae..." is a medium-budget film. Its total cost is about Rs 190 million.
"God Tussi..." will be released worldwide with around 700 prints. YRF refused to divulge details regarding the prints but director Siddharth Anand said the movie would be released with the average print limit of the banner for a medium-budget project.
A reliable source from PVR cinemas said: "There is a good pre-release response to all the three movies. However, it is true that 'Singh Is...' is still managing high sales."
Anjali Malhotra, manager, brand communications, Adlabs, echoed the same saying: " 'Singh...' is going strong in its second week and is expected to keep on garnering sales. But we have divided our screens equally for all the three movies."
However, Ashok Bisht, assistant manager of Jam Cinemas, Ghaziabad, showed confidence in the Ranbir starrer, saying: "We are expecting a good business with 'Bachna Ae...' because of the Yash Raj banner in comparison to 'God Tussi...' but 'Singh is...' is still getting us business of around 70 percent even on weekdays."
However, the slow start at the booking counter has neither disturbed Anand nor Jafry - both directors are confident of their projects.
Anand said: "Nothing affects the ticket sales. It is tough, but it depends on the film. If an individual has to go for a film, then he or she will definitely go for it, come what may."
Jafry stated: "I don't fear any movie. There is nobody greater than god and I have my faith in him. My movie is commercial, but different. The audience would come to know of it when they will watch it."
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh too is optimistic of both the releases and is looking forward to watching them.
He said: "There are a lot of expectations from both the movies. Both are big projects and have big stars. It would be a great holiday period and the movies are expected to do great business."
"However, what movie fares well at the box office depends upon the content that is the driving force of a film," he concluded

Singh Is Kinng Craze Continues In Pakistan
Singh Is Kinng did business of over 1 crore over its first week in Pakistan and the craze continues in week two with overcrowded theatres and shows having to be held at 1am at night to meet demand. The collections from Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Multan are mind boggling in week two and the film will show minimal drops. The advance for second week in Lahore DHA showed 6 lakhs on Friday alone. Faisalabad was still running to overcrowded shows in week two. Rawalpindi which opened on Friday showed tickets sold for the weekend in advance on Friday itself.
The film will be the highest grossing hindi film ever in Pakistan by a distance.

This weekend we had the release of Bachna Ae Haseeno and God Tussi Great Ho while last week's Singh Is Kinng is still going strong. The combined weekend gross of the three films may surpass 38 crore

Will Akshay Reign Or RNBDJ Put Shahrukh Khan Back On Top?
Q.You have said Akshay has edged SRK in India but Singh Is Kinng is his first record breaking opening while SRK has been doing it for years like MHN, Veer Zaara, KANK and OSO.
A.The amount of films Akshay does it makes it harder for each of his films to break records, if he did less work you would see more of his films breaking records. If we take last 2 years, Akshay has had twice the releases of SRK. As for edging out SRK only time will tell.
J Vedh, India
Q.Will Bachna Ae Haseena be a superhit?
A.It should be a hit and chances are there for superhit.
S Chandan, Canada
Q.Which films do you expect to open well and be hits for the rest of the year?
A.Kidnap, Karzzzz, Golmaal Returns, Dostana, Yuvraj, Chandni Chowk To China (may not release this year), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Ghajini.
Salim, India
Q.Will Akshay reign or RNBDJ put Shahrukh Khan back on top?
A.Its very close between the two megastars but Akshay has the advantage now. If RNBDJ scores as expected then Shahrukh would remain at the top but to sustain this he will have to increase his workload which has come down to one film a year from 2-3 films a few years back. Basically if Akshay's popularity remains and he continues to work as much as he is doing now and selects films as well as he is doing now then its only a matter time before he is at the top. Akshay is going to have 3-4 releases a year for the next few years while SRK looks like having one this year, one next year and two in 2010. Salman Khan is another guy who has a huge universal following and can put a spanner in the works as he can score 3-4 big hits in the next 8-10 months. Its hard to say who exactly will reign but the best bet would be Akshay because SRK's one big hit a year will not be enough as things stand today, two or three big hits is a different story but that can't happen. Shahrukh also faced a huge challenge from Hrithik in 2006 but here Hrithik cut down on his workload and the challenge did not materialize but this will not happen with Akshay who will continue to have many releases.
Preeti Ghai, USA
Q. Can you tell me when the Akshay-Kareena starrer Kambhakt Ishq will release?
A. It should be early next year but there are rumours it may come on Christmas as it holds tremendous appeal for the overseas audience and a Christmas release would allow it to take advantage advantage of the huge Christmas and New Year weeks in overseas.
