Hyderabad: Stung by the diatribe launched by the Union minister of state for higher education and N T Rama Rao’s daughter D Purandareswari against Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu and his wife Bhuvaneshwari, party spokesperson Nannapeni Rajakumari said the TDP would counter her move for move, and posed four questions for the NTR kin to respond to and prove her loyalty to the legacy of NTR.
“First, if Purandareswari cared so much for the legacy of her father, then why did she not fight for conferment of the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour, on her father. The Congress-led UPA government has been in power for the last four years, and Purandareswari herself has been a minister for the same period. Our question is whether as minister she even attempted to secure a Bharat Ratna for NTR?.”
Secondly, Rajakumari raised the issue of re-naming of NTR DomesticAirport at Begumpet as Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad when the operations were shifted to the new location in March this year. “The TDP-led by Naidu had launched a vigorous campaign against dropping of the name of NTR by the UPA government at the Centre and the Congress government at the state. We want to know whether Purandareswari, as NTR’s daughter, ever protested the move or even wrote a letter to the ministry concerned protesting the dropping of the name of her father and re-naming the new airport after Rajiv Gandhi?.”
The third query posed by the TDP spokesperson was on the issue of NTR awards. “For four years, the Y S Rajasekhara Reddy government kept the annual NTR awards in cold storage, and all of a sudden, announced the awards for four years at one go last week. As NTR’s daughter, did Purandareswari ever protest the dishonour that was being done to her father who was a towering figure in the cinema world. And was she invited for the awards function held in Hyderabad last week. If she was not invited, it is a very big insult to NTR and to Purandareswari as well and she should have immediately resigned from the ministry for the ‘insult’ heaped on her father and the family. If she was invited and did not bother to attend, then that shows the disregard she has for the NTR legacy,” Rajakumari said.
Lastly, the TDP spokesperson raised the issue of Naidu replacing the photos of NTR after coming to power, as was alleged by the Union minister. “Rajasekhara Reddy is the chief minister now. Are there any photos of his predecessors including Naidu and NTR, hanging at the Secretariat currently? No. Similarly, Naidu had got NTR’s portraits removed only from the Secretariat as it is the custom at the official premises to put up photos only of the current CM. But NTR’s photos still adorn all the TDP party offices,” she said.
The TDP, Rajakumari said, was ready to take on Purandareswari on each and every issue raised by the minister, provided NTR’s daughter replied to their queries first.
