To all bhakts who are supporting this divide in the society, remember only one thing:

If this kind of divide was in place since beginning of the independence, then we would not have had a personality like Abdul Kalam.

Asal divide ekkada undi ikkada, and who talks about division?

When had numbers divided india into two parts(sorry three parts), kashmir still burns today, kerala malappuram district wants to be declared as seperate country.

Annai if you can bring one gud exception i can bring 100s of bad exceptions.

Kalam became great because he didn't see a kafir in you or me but he saw a indian in every indian. But whole concept doesnt work in such way.

Who asked your opinion ......it is the bjp cadre to take decision who wants who as their leader....and if a person who is elected by majority of people is a cloudiest then you are in your dreams ....say for example if you think bjp won by evm then 2014 tdp won with evm and congress won with even evms in 2004 and 2009... You don't want temple in ayodhya but you keep mum on minority appeasement that is your mind set and bjp cadre is not ready for such a mindset taxing hindu temple and giving subsidiaries to waqfboard .....if you are not interested in this discussion just stay away from quoting meand no one who supports bjp will be interested in people like you

Tanishq want to showcase its Ornaments in the Ad.  For that showing Hindu culture is the best way.  Hence he opted for it.  Ofcourse, to bring curiosity he adopted to this theme.  What is the issue with this.  So many films themselves came with H boy and M Girl.  Numerous such films are there.  If not Quran and Religion shown in objectionable way... no protests happened just because Girl was a Muslim.  Also Christian girl and hindu boy also i have seen some.  Maree over react avutunnaaru.

If at all Love Jihad is present... mind it... those who does Love Jihad... will not tolerate the above shown culture.  Like Afridi destroyed his telivision seeing his daughter does aarthi... same way they too will do.  The above Ad is in most positive atmosphere... sticking with Indian values.... still being accused as Love Jihad content itself is showing that people becoming Mad about religion.... if I am not wrong... following the foot paths of a failed state in our neighbour hood.  Kshaminchandi... ilaa cheppaalani ledu, but oka chinna Ad kosam intha raadhaantham that too positive and cultural Ad meeda ante.... vaddu vaddu anukuntoone respond avvaalsi vasthondi.

Uncle Hindus became sensitive to such appeasement ads, bcoz they are not seeing it other way round recently. Films had both ways but we didn’t have social media then, but now web series are getting called out, back then too there was outrage on occasions when Gadar theatres were arsoned for sindoor scene or films like Padmavati ran into trouble. Anyway as I said social media is even collecting old stuff now, and @gemsofbollywood is one such resource.

Some thoughts on an ad.

So baby showers of the ritualistic or the consumerist kind are not my kind of thing at all. Large celebrations of women's reproductive capacities make me a tad nervous. I mean it's all very nice and all and I am happy for the people involved, assuming they are happy for themselves but for too long women have been both valued and controlled precisely because we reproduce and so one cannot but be wary of such occasions. Also you all saw that chunky necklace that was given to the mother-to-be - that must have cost a bomb and of course let's never forget the entire point of this ad is that chunky necklace that you now must buy to showcase your love. So my objections to baby showers and godh bharai's are both feminist and socialist. And to my mind the Tanishq ad conforms to both patriarchal and (of course) capitalist demands.

But, and this is a big but in the year 2020, the ad does something else that we need very much. It showcases a world some of us remember, a world where Hindus and Muslims lived together. It's not as if inter-religious marriages are the norm, they are not. But all of us know families and couples who have had inter-religious marriages, enough that for many of us it was not noteworthy. Unusual, yes. Strange, no. Were they desired, no of course not. But were they acceptable, in many cases, the answer was yes, eventually - especially when a child was born for which grandparent did not desire to see themselves in their grandchildren and be part of indulging them.

Am I romanticising? Probably. I was born in the 1970s and grew up in the 1980s and 90s, and even as various kinds of communal rage was unleashed around me: Shah Bano, Roop Kanwar, Barbari demolition, I continued to see people fall in love and marry across religious lines. And yet, grandmothers told good Hindu girls they must marry within their religion and at no cost marry a Muslim.

The Tatas are far from being able to claim any moral high ground though it is puzzling that they would put out this ad and then withdraw it. As so many commentators are saying - surely they expected this reaction - were they not prepared for it?

All my reservations aside, of its kind, the Tanishq ad was a very sweet one. It spoke to our romanticised visions of religious harmony and appealed to our aesthetic senses. It is a "beautiful" ad with lovely colours in the post globalised desirable homes way. There was attention to detail. There was a recipe on a table. A nicely placed wink on the part of the presumed husband establishing romance and intimacy. There was the matching set of women from his and hers families on either side of the swing (again note the co-ordinated colours). His family had women in various forms of attire mostly still recognisable as broadly "Islamic". Hers in clothing that established their apparent Hindu South Indianness. There was the punch line that claimed that making daughters happy was important to every family. With all this even a "khadoos" like me might smile and ask, what's not to like? Even as my feminist and socialist side goes bah, another side of me that is mourning the loss of the secularism I grew up with, however fraught it might have been, goes awww.

It's the very smile inducing capacity of this ad, that those committed to a bigoted view of the world find deeply threatening. They live in a world of fake news, manufactured love-jihads (though it must be noted that there are no recorded cases of actual love jihad, I repeat zero cases), and a world in which those who marry across caste and religious lines must be violently dealt with. They have created the world in which inter-religious couples can no longer go and put up notices to marry under the Special Marriages act because vigilante groups go around looking for just such couples like them. This has pushed such couples into being compelled to have one person convert in order to marry because to marry under the Special Marriage Act might put them at risk. They have fostered a world in which girls are denied mobile phones lest they fall in love with the "wrong" kind of men. They are filled with hatred the likes of which is hard to fathom.

In this world, even ads like this one, steeped as it might be in paternalistic capitalist manufactured romance are a sign of hope. This is what makes it unfortunate when it's pulled out.
