bharath_k
KURNOOL: Highlighting his demand that farmers be allowed to sell their produce at any place where they could get a remunerative price, Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan on Sunday took out a padayatra to Gilka Sugurcamp in Karnataka and publicly auctioned the rice produced by AP farmers at a record price, thereby defying the state government regulations against doing so. A Ramalakshmi of Bengaluru bought the rice at a whopping Rs 1 lakh for five quintals in the auction. Though the high price realised was due to some keen contest during the bidding, the normal price of the rice at Emmiganur in AP is about `2,100 per quintal as against `2,400 in Karnataka. Jayaprakash, who went to Gilka Sugurcamp on foot from Emmiganur, said they had just made a beginning and soon they would go to Maharashtra, Orissa and Tamil Nadu and sell the agricultural produce belonging to farmers from Adilabad, Srikakulam and Chittoor areas respectively. He even dared the government to try and stop him. The government should either pay a remunerative price to the farmer or abolish restrictions on export of agricultural produce, he said. sskmaestro
So you think taking the produce interstate and selling that is that easy? Try bringing 50 bags of rice from TG to AP and see how you will be stopped. a farmer has to pay “anyamyas” to officers in his state and other state! only brokers will benefit from this. Let’s say, you black green gram in AP, a broker can now freely go and sell that in TN when there is shortage in TN for green gram. EOD states are going to lose their incomes. GST lo loss ayyayi states.... eppudu Agri back bone income kooda fasak! B O D I for a reason!

My point is , here state GOVT is the looter. { forget minimum support price for some time, this is another topic } (1) State GOVT is imposing the restrictions, where they want to procure rice for their free rice scheme, they restrict export to other states, kill the price and purchase the rice at cheaper cost, which they utilize to purchase votes. They are doing this from last 50 years. (2) you are worrying about the state GOVT income, then why the hell the farmer should loose here. state GOVT chese yedava paniki farmer anevaadu suffer avva koodadu. Kumbk
IMO, this bill is inevitable. In all developed countries agriculture is a part of commodities business. The bill is removing the trade barriers. Though I like the intent behind the bill, I doubt Modi's capability of proper implementation. In the end they will subvert into another money grabbing oppurtunity for gujju's.

yamaha
1)Farmers can't sell beyond boundaries anedi myth. All you need is to pay just 1% extra APMC cess in both states if you cross border Now in this Bill, all farmer is gaining a piece of cake in that extra 1% 2) MSP is not applicable if farmer and buyer accept at below MSP rate This is quite bad as farmers is loosing MSP argument and there exists no scenario in India where farmer can demand more. It's market that decides the price with 80% of times below MSP and 20% above MSP This is big debate, even if MSP rule exsists farmer won't get it, if market demand is there he gets MSP else NO. 80% times he won't get but the point here is he is losing the argument of MSP. 3) Stock limit vanished. This is quite bad for farmers as till now globally MNC could not operate in this segment. They follow strict legal rules. Till now Local Marwadi/Baniya/ agro processor stocked the goods in season for better price in Un-season, their financial pocket is limited, but now the limits are vanished for MNC who have too deep pockets. So they decide the price and and it will always be lower as much as possible. So net gain some portion of 1% market cess is gained by farmers Losing MSP argument MNC stocking of commodities during season will lead to throw aways prices for farmer.
