Recommended Posts

Is India great? This is the worst situation any human being can face.

For initial lockdown, State governments were supposed to take care of migrant workers, some did well and some didn’t. With Tablighi’s playing spoilsport  lockdowns got extended and the migrant workers became more effected and that’s when some started travelling on their own, Later central govt started allowing trains on request of state govt. Most of the recent horror stories are coming from Maharashtra including this one. Coming to what is the point of helping late, had Maharashtra govt. helped instead of MP govt. in advance this would have been better at least one of the govts helped.

As the migrant workers are spread all over INDIA, definitely central government must have had a proper plan and coordinated with state governments to provide food, shelter and medicine. Modi is regularly organizing meetings with state CMs, why could not he pass an order to state governments to take care of migrant workers. For example many migrants workers from Bihar or UP came down to South India, how many state governments en route have to coordinate to send those migrants to their home place during lock down? A clear order from central government would have made this act easier. They responded late either because they are not prepared or they comfortably forgot about them.

Initially migrants were supposed to stay in the same place to avoid spread. Govt did provide direction, Meetings lo jarigindhi ground level lo entha implement avuthundhi anedhi varies kadha as we have seen now. Kejri might say we will take care don’t worry and dump migrants at border which UP had to ferry with 10k buses or be inactive like Udhav, at least kcr was vocal in reassuring.  Health is a state subject, with central govt chipping in where needed via schemes like ayushman bharat etc. That being said all levels of govt. should have been more proactive, to alleviate this situation. Central govt. did provide rations to state govts but wonder how many migrants are there in the JAM trinity system, which has been life saviour for the poor. It was getting difficult for state govts to manage as the lockdowns extended and that’s when they decided to send migrants back. But before that itself some migrants started by foot. It’s unfortunate, given our population these are challenges we face.

I don’t think there is anything like that, given we get migrants data only during census which last happened 10 yrs back so no body has real data. Inka ee year jaragalsina census so far ela aaparo thelisindhe.

But centre has authority to restrict interstate movement which they did during initial lockdowns where they restricted movement except essential ommodities. Later they relaxed it on April 30 to allow migrants and others. All states were supposed to designate nodal authorities and develop standard protocols for receiving and sending stranded people. But in a large country like ours you know what happens if gate opens, recent example wine shops. Given the huge migrant population and lack of data thereof it is difficult to gauge the impact. Ofcourse not to mention our resources to deal with. It is the people not present in JAM trinity that suffer the most. Anyway now govt. agreed to cover people outside the system but this in itself is a challenge to identify and provide benefit.
