English medium school

Recommended Posts

From last 5 months disastrous governance and administration . Jagans best policy is changing Govt schools to adopt English medium. Many people can't understand this for now but in long term it's going to be huge benefit to people. Lower class can save  lot of money. As now majority money they are earning is going to liquor and school fee .

Except school teachers no one benefit from Telugu medium.

Andhra Pradesh government's decision to scrap Telugu in all municipal schools has stirred up a hornet's nest with a section of parents and educationists, as well as the opposition parties coming against it.

The Chandrababu Naidu government on January 2 issued a GO, No. 14 for converting all the existing Telugu medium municipal schools into English medium schools with immediate effect.

"The move to convert Telugu medium government schools into English medium schools will be a total disaster," says Shravan Kumar, an advocate with the Supreme Court. "There is a general perception that you can get jobs only if you know English, and that is one of the reasons for the growth in the number of private schools," he adds.

After allegations were raised that there were not enough trained teachers in government schools to take on a decision of this kind, Naidu had said that he would bring about amendments to the GO No. 14, scrapping Telugu medium. Teachers unions are up in arms as the decision came in the middle of the  academic year.

"The government schools do not have too many students because of the lack of teachers and their accountability," says Shravan Kumar. He adds, "If there are no private schools, the government schools and the English medium might actually be a big success."

Apparently, there was a previous GO which was issued in 2016, where it stated that in places like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, English was the medium of education including the local languages of the particular place. While this would have been the perfect GO which laid an emphasis on English in schools, the GO No. 14 scrapping the local language totally, shocked all and sundry. TIt would affect 2,51,774 students in 2,118 municipal schools across the state.

Neighbouring Telangana has somehow managed this transition successfully, but there the system was implemented only in model schools. Parents and village committees were also consulted before the decision.

In Andhra, considering the fact that there is already a complaint against government schools regarding attendance of teachers and lack of teachers as well as students, many people think that this decision, which comes in the middle of academic year and ahead of the public examinations, is foolish.

The brain behind the new move is believed to be education minister Ponguru Narayana who has already started foundation courses and coaching classes for teachers and students. During a meeting last year, most of the teachers had suggested that English should be taught from class 5 upwards.

IMO,

Jaffa’s decision killed the govt schools.... in 5-10 years, these schools will have least turn outs (worst than what they have currently)

special DSC vesi, English proficiency unna teachers ni recruit cheskovali in next 2-3 years..... else these govt eng medium schools are a gone case!

this decision will kill Telugu on a whole. I support English medium education, but the govt should have given enough priority and preference to Telugu as a subject.

In a couple of decades, you will not see a single person taking BA-Telugu literature. There will be severe drought in the Telugu literature area.

Many people will end up with “deevitam lo” kind of pronunciation!

If the govt is serious on the govt schools below should happen atleast in next few years

1. Recruit new teachers who are efficient in English (atleast 50% should be replaced)

2. Roll out strict guidelines on the school management and provide ranking to schools. Put the rankings in public domain and a reason why that school is awarded that rank.

3. Keep a parent survey conducted by third party every year.

Recruit teachers from other states who are good at english. Create english speaking environment in schools. When state paying high salaries to teachers it has right to hire highly qualified teachers for giving quality education to students.

English raani vaalatho English medium is the real recipe for disaster. I prefer recruiting new teachers who are efficient in English, start them as contract teachers and convert them as full time in future

No need to remove existing teachers. their capability to teach English medium is less. Existing teachers will be useful for transition phase. New teachers should be from all over India. Recruitment exam and interview should be conducted only in english. Anybody from india can apply for this job. If telugu teachers teach english medium and speak in telugu it will be tough to create english speaking environment in schools.

In Christian missionaries schools teachers and students speak only in english. They give punishment to whoever speaks in telugu.
