Farmers in Prakasam district, who have been forced to resort to distress sale with domestic paper mills driving down the market price for subabul and eucalyptus logs, can heave a sigh of relief as the State government has roped in Indonesia-based Asia Pulp and Paper for setting up a ₹20,000 crore paper mill in the district. “An MoU will be signed with one of the largest paper makers in the world on December 5,” IT Minister N. Lokesh said while taking part in the whistle-stop meetings in Markapur Assembly constituency.

In spite of the cash crunch the fledgling State faced post bifurcation, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had not compromised when it came to implementation of welfare schemes and development projects, he said.

He further said the Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme had been completed on a war-footing to divert surplus water from the Godavari basin to the Krishna basin and save crops in Prakasam district and part of Krishna Western Delta. With the same zeal, Polavaram and Veligonda projects would be completed to solve the water problem on a permanent basis, he added.

Industrialisation

The district was sure to discard the “backward” tag as the government was fully committed to its speedy industrialisation by grounding the Ramayapatnam sea port, Donakonda industrial city and National Investment and Manufacturing Zone, Mr. Lokesh asserted, and sought the people’s support for the government for continuing the “good work.”

In this context, Mr. Likesh had a dig at YSRCP MLA from Markapur J. Venke Reddy for “taking salary without attending the State Assembly.”

Despite the “indifferent attitude” of the opposition MLA, the TDP government had sanctioned ₹450 crore for development projects in the constituency. All houses in the constituency would be provided piped water supply in three years by spending ₹220 crore, he added.
