It was main opposition party in United AP till 1970s. CPI is just thoka party of CPI(M), not strong any where not ruled anywhere just supported CPI(M). As CPI(M) did not supported Telangana separate state it had lost it's hold in Telangana. It used to be strong in Nalgonda, Khammam, Hyd, Warangal till few years back.
