The Millennium Tower-A built with green technologies and ability to withstand a wind speed of above 200 kmph keeping in view the trail of devastation left behind in the aftermath of Cyclone Hudhud the city in October, 2014, is ready for inauguration.

An iconic Internet of Things-enabled super-structure is part of the project built in an area of four acres on Hill No. 3 of Rushikonda, popularly known as Cyber Valley. Millennium Tower-B will come up in the next phase.

Space allotted

The project is taken up by AP Electronics and IT Agency (APEITA), an autonomous society formed by the State government, to promote investments in electronics and IT. AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation is appointed as the nodal agency for construction of the prestigious project after shelving Signature Tower construction, touted to be better than the Cyber Towers of Cyberabad due to poor response from BOT investors.

While Millennium Tower-A is built with a built-up area of two lakh sft, B tower construction will be taken up for one lakh sft a little later. So far, an expenditure of Rs. 85 crore has been occurred. Three-floor cellar parking with 1.5 lakh sft has been made ready.

Asked to comment on status of Millennium Tower, IT Minister Nara Lokesh said “it is ready for inauguration and we are waiting for a date from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for its opening.” In one of the tweets, he said “glad to witness the progress of Millennium Tower in Vizag. This will stand a testimony to Vizag’s growth resilience.”

Sources told The Hindu that the government has in-principle allotted the entire space in A tower to Conduent, a $6 billion American company, which recently launched its operations by taking building on rent at Rushikonda.

Conduent, a leading firm in diversified business processes, will invest over Rs. 300 crore to provide jobs to 5,000 people in the city. Franklin Templeton-Innova Solutions, who were given space at Tech Mahindra’s new building for their operations, have been allotted 40 acres near Rushikonda. They will invest Rs. 450 crore for providing high-end jobs to 2,500. President and COO of Franklin Templeton Investments Jenny Johnson during her recent visit to Visakhapatnam said that they were impressed with the IT climate in A.P. and the brand name enjoyed by Mr. Naidu.
