GOLI SODA Posted October 24, 2017 Share Posted October 24, 2017 People do not need to stand up in cinema halls to prove their patriotism and "cannot be forced to carry patriotism on their sleeves", the Supreme Court said on Monday, asking the Centre to consider amending the rules to regulate the playing of the National Anthem before a film. The top court also observed that it cannot be assumed that if a person does not stand up for the National Anthem, then he is "less patriotic". The bench also indicated that it may modify its order of 30 November, 2016, by which the playing of the anthem was made mandatory in the movie halls before the screening of a film, and may replace the word "shall" with "may". "People go to cinema halls for undiluted entertainment. Society needs entertainment. We cannot allow you (Centre) to shoot from our shoulders. People do not need to stand up in cinema halls to prove their patriotism," the bench, also comprising Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud, said. "Desireability is one thing but making it mandatory is another. Citizens cannot be forced to carry patriotism on their sleeves and courts cannot inculcate patriotism among people through its order," the bench said. Sr Fan Posted October 24, 2017 Share Posted October 24, 2017 In general political sense,irrespective of what anybody says, if push comes to shove, except parties like mim & some crazy left possibly communists, pretty much everybody including congress etc. will fall in the category of respecting national anthem....Be assured , no short cuts for tdp- not even close, the tradional party of Telugus has been very strong in these values, exactly know it's stance without any equivocation... Leave big value debates aside, even for the bottomline electoral politics, anywhere, if you have to choose, always err on the side of national anthem, not against. Suppose people are going to watch sex adult movie in theater ? Is there any meaning to chant national anthem before adult movie ? every thing has its own importance or day ... some mps sleeping in parliament ...why cant national anthem played there to make them awake or make there presence felt ? I support making it mandatory in all educational institutions that are takig govt aid including minority institutions. And Yes, parliament, state assemblies and Courts are the ones that should set example by singing national anthem before the start of their proceedings everyday.
