Naidu asks teachers to admit their children in government schools from next academic year

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said all the government schools will be equipped with e-classrooms, video conferencing and biometric system soon. He asked the teachers to admit their children in government schools from the next academic year.

Priority would be given to extra-curricular activities and government, aided, municipal and zilla parishad schools would be equipped with infrastructure, he said.

Speaking at the Second State Council Meeting of Progressive Recognized Teachers Union (PRTU) here on Thursday, Mr. Naidu said private schools were focussing on ranks, but children should be brought up in all aspects.

The Government would take measures to introduce yoga, sports and other physical and extra-curricular activities in all the government-run schools. Infrastructure, drinking water and other facilities would be provided in all schools, he said.

Saying only 45 per cent of children were studying in government schools and the rest in private institutions, the Chief Minister asked the teachers to shift their wards to the schools in which they were working to improve standards in government schools.

Houses for teachers

Responding to the demands raised by the PRTU leaders, Mr. Naidu said he would try to implement unified service rules, give notional increments for all eligible teachers and allot houses for government teachers. He assured them he would meet the union leaders and solve other problems.

Recalling his school days, the Chief Minister stressed the need to protect the family bond and maintain better coordination between teachers and parents which would help children perform better.

“Family relationships are very important and we have good culture and tradition in families. I am unhappy that I could not spend much time with my grandson,” Mr. Naidu said.

Demands

Earlier, MLCs Gade Srinivasulu Naidu, Bachala Pullaiah, A.S. Ramakrishna and PRTU State president Mathi Kamalakara Rao urged the CM to grant earned leave to teachers who participated in the Samaikyandhra agitation, terminate Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), provide gratuity and financial aid to the dependents under CPS, elevate language pandits as school assistants, introduce Employees Health Scheme for teachers, promote MEO and DIET lecturers and solve other demands.

Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the Government was ready to take up the issues concerning teachers and asked them to improve the pass percentage.

“Teachers should own up responsibility in all government schools and mould children into good citizens in all aspects. I request the teachers to cooperate with the government in transforming AP into education hub,” he said.

Zilla Parishad Chairman Gadde Anuradha, industrialist Velagapudi Gopalakrishna Prasad, PRTU presidents, secretaries from all districts and members attended the conference.
