AP Targets 5,000 Start-ups, 100 Incubators by 2019

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh government, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and IC2 Institute of The University of Texas, is going to launch a technology accelerator in Tirupati next month. While they expect the technology that would come in through the accelerator to address state-specific challenges like water management, waste management, cyber security and agricultural technology among others, the broader issue it is trying to solve is unemployment. 

 

 

"This accelerator is trying to create more jobs by encouraging entrepreneurship, technology and innovation," said Glenn Robinson, director of the accelerator, who will move to Tirupati from Austin, Texas, to head the program. 

 

The accelerator program already has applications trickling in, from which 33 technology startups would be shortlisted to enter the four-month long session. These companies would be filtered down to eight, and then four, who would receive further mentorship to approach potential investors. 

 

 Robinson said they are also looking at possible synergies with incubators and accelerators across the country, including Telangana government backed incubator T-Hub in Hyderabad. "We are also looking at opportunities to bring technologies that don't exist here - possibly from the States or from other countries, to create more jobs," said Robinson.

United Kingdom government-funded HyperCat has evinced interest to set up incubator in Visakhapatnam shortly after encouraging response to its decision to launch such a facility in Hyderabad.

While Hyderabad facility opened by Flexeye at Kondapur can house 40 startups, it is not yet decided on the number of startups it is going to accelerate and incubate in Visakhapatnam.

HyperCat, a non-profit consortium of IT companies dealing with Internet of Things and smart city projects consists of big names like ARM, Cisco, IBM, Intel and Flexeye.

It would be a wonderful opportunity to start HyperCat incubation in Visakhapatnam, Startup Moksha founder T. Vasudeva Rao told The Hindu . “It will help develop an ecosystem for IoT – a network connectivity to allow sending and receiving of data,” he remarked.

HyperCat wants to explore partnerships and business opportunities of mutual benefit with Indian startups in IoT and smart city domains. The members of the consortium are executing several projects in UK.

They are also interested to offer tools and solutions in the field to interested parties in India where lot of opportunities are available due to Digital India and Startup India, the flagship programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to HyperCat website, it aims to create an inclusive one-stop shop of best practice of IoT implementation through sharing of knowledge processes and applications.

Visakhapatnam is one among three cities chosen along with Allahabad and Ajmer for development as smart city with the support of the United States. It has also ranked among top 10 cities in maintaining cleanliness. The successful organising of CII Partnership Summit and International Fleet Review enhanced the brand name of Visakhapatnam.

A Special Purpose Vehicle -- Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation has already been formed and a Project Management Consultant is being appointed to implement the smart city project as a mission mode.

The Andhra Pradesh-Shenzhen joint incubation centre and smart city innovation hub will come up in the coastal city of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, it was announced on Saturday.

A letter of intent for setting up the incubation centre was signed here on Saturday by the state's information technology, electronics and communication department and ZTESoft, a fully owned subsidiary of the ZTE Corporation, a leading Chinese telecom provider.

AP Shenzhen joint incubation centre and smart city innovation hub will be an 85:15 venture between Innovation Society of the Andhra Pradesh government and Qianhai Authority/ZTE Soft. While the state will invest Rs 13.60 crore, ZTESoft will invest Rs 2.40 crore over a period of three years.

Andhra's Information Technology Minister Palle Raghunath Reddy said the incubation centre will generate employment for 670 people directly and 2,500 people indirectly in next three years.

He said that Kakinada, which is one of the top 20 candidate cities announced by the central for development as smart cities, is an ideal location to host the incubation centre and innovation hub.

The centre with world-class technology startup ecosystem will train 600 professionals every year and incubate 94 companies.

ZTE Soft Technology Pvt Ltd and Qianhai Authority have proposed a three-year programme working with Andhra's Innovation Society to establish the talent and support infrastructure.

The centre will also facilitate other Chinese investments in the state. As part of this effort, Andhra would open an extension office in the Qianhai innovation centre.

It will also provide support to raise Rs 1,000 crore investment Afrom the Chinese government towards developing Kakinada vizag corridor as the Shenzhen coastal corridor.

Shenzhen, one of the biggest and most successful industrial zones in the world, contributes almost 20 per cent to the Chinese economy.

Kakinada is Known for rich coastal resources and excellent institutional framework. Chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed his intent to develop Kakinada as 'Shenzhen style' coastal economic zone.

Cisco to set up Internet of Everthing innovation centre in Vizag

 

Cisco will set up an internet of everything (IoE) Innovation centre in Visakhapatnam to drive regional innovation and will enable partners and start-ups to build solutions around IoE and engage in rapid prototyping.

The innovation centre is one of the initiatives proposed by the company in an MoU signed with Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday.

Among other initiatives, Cisco will also invest in an advanced Technology centre of Excellence and Research Lab in the Institute of Digital Technology at Tirupati, focused on cyber security, smarty city and manufacturing solutions.

The MoU was signed as a part of the inauguration of India's first statewide broadband project-AP Fiber Net, in Visakhapatnam in the presence of Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Cisco executive chairman Irving Tan among others.

The company has also announced plans for the expansion of Cisco Networking Academy in 70 colleges to train around 10,000 new students in the state.

యువ అధికారుల చొరవతో..

ఎస్తోనియానే ఎందుకు?
ఐటీ అభివృద్ధి దిశగా ఏపీ సంబంధాలు పెట్టుకుంటే సిలికాన్‌ వ్యాలీతో పెట్టుకోవాలి. లేదా ఎస్తోనియాను ఆశ్రయించాలి. సిలికాన్‌ వ్యాలీని ఏపీ దారి పట్టించడం అంత తేలిక కాదు. పైగా వందల బిలియన్‌ డాలర్లకు ఎదిగిన కంపెనీలు ఇప్పుడు ప్రభుత్వాల మాట వినే పరిస్థితుల్లో లేవు. కాబట్టి స్టార్ట్‌ప్సలో అదరగొడుతున్న ఎస్తోనియాతోనే టై అప్‌ పెట్టుకోవడం మంచిదని ఏపీ టెక్‌ నిపుణులు భావిస్తున్నారు. అలా అని అమెరికన్‌ మల్టీ నేషనల్‌ కంపెనీలను పూర్తిగా వదిలేయకుండా.. భారతదేశం నుంచి నుంచి వెళ్లి అమెరికాలో సెటిలై చీఫ్‌ ఎగ్జిక్యూటివ్‌ల స్థాయిలో ఉన్నవారిని, అమెరికాలో సెటిలైనసా్‌ఫ్టవేర్‌ నిపుణులను స్వరాష్ట్రం బాట పట్టించడానికి ప్రభుత్వం ప్రయత్నిస్తోంది. అందులోభాగంగా ఏపీకి చెందిన సత్య నాదెళ్ల, గూగుల్‌ హెడ్‌ సుందర్‌ పిచయ్‌ (తమిళనాడు)లకు అమరావతి ఆతిథ్యం ఇవ్వాలని సీఎం చంద్రబాబు భావిస్తున్నారు. ఎస్తోనియాతో ఆశిస్తున్న సంబంధాలు మాత్రం ఇందుకు పూర్తి భిన్నమైనవి. ఎస్తోనియా కంపెనీలతోనే కాకుండా అక్కడి ప్రభుత్వంతో నేరుగా ఒప్పందాలు కుదుర్చుకోవాలని రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం భావిస్తోంది. ఎస్తోనియన్‌ కంపెనీలు ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌పై దృష్టి సారించాలంటే... ప్రభుత్వంతో భాగస్వామ్యం తప్పదని అధికారులు భావిస్తున్నారు. యువ ప్రపంచ ఆవిష్కరణలకు వేదికైన ఎస్తోనియాకు ఓ యువకుడే ప్రఽధాని కావడం విశేషం. తావి రొౖవాస్‌ (36)తో సంబంధాలు నెరిపి యువ ఎస్తోనియన్లను, అక్కడి స్టార్టప్‌ దిగ్గజాలను ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌ దారి పట్టించడానికి యువ అధికారులు ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నారు.

Setting up World-Class-Incubator by ITE&C Dept with IC2, University of Texas, Austin and FICCI at Tirupati – 

 

Hyderabad, March 2 (Maxim News): Government of Andhra Pradesh envisions to “Develop AP as an Innovation Society of global repute, with a focus on enhancing the Quality of Life of its citizens, through high-quality Education and Healthcare, increased productivity in Agriculture and allied activities, creation of Employment by promoting Electronics and IT, and above all, by providing Good Governance”.

 

Continuing with the State’s ambition to build the new state of Andhra Pradesh as an innovation society, ‘Andhra Pradesh Innovation and Startup Policy 2014-2020’ is put in place with the following vision “to create a world class ‘technology start-up ecosystem’ by fostering entrepreneurship and a culture of innovation’ which contributes to increased knowledge, wealth and employment in our society”

 

Through the Innovation and Start-up Policy, the government intends to create an ecosystem that produces an entrepreneur in every family. The targets laid out for the Andhra Pradesh through this Policy are:

 

100 Incubators / Accelerators to be established

5,000 Companies & Start Ups to be incubated

1 million sqft of Incubation Space to be developed

Venture Capital of Rs 1000 Cr to be mobilized for Innovation

Foster Innovation Culture

In this regard, The IC2 Institute of The University of Texas, Austin and Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) propose to work with Andhra Pradesh Innovation Society of ITE&C Dept, to establish the talent and support infrastructure needed for a world-class technology start-up ecosystem, through Global Accelerator and Incubator Program by setting up The Incubation Center, at Tirupati which will be a model of economic development.

 

The IC2 program at Tirupati will bring significant economic impact to the State. The program aim to develop over 1000 innovative companies and train over 6000 scientists/innovators/engineers/entrepreneurs in AP. The incubates companies will be aimed to create a revenue impact of over 250 crores for first phase and cumulative revenue of over 2000 crores for a period of 5 years and over 6000 crores over a period of 10 years. The program will create hundreds of new jobs in first phase followed by over 2500 jobs over a period of 5 years and over 6500 jobs over a period of 10 years.

 

Keeping the above in view, Council of Ministers at their Cabinet Meeting held on March 2, 2016 resolved to approve setting up of World Class Incubator by ITE&C Dept, with IC2, University of Texas , Austin and FICCI at Tirupati, said Mr. G. విశాఖపట్నం (ఆంధ్రజ్యోతి): ఆధునితకను అందిపుచ్చుకుంటేనే అభివృద్ధి సాధ్యమని ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌ ఐటి సలహాదారు జెఎ చౌదరి అన్నారు. రాష్ట్రంలో స్టార్టప్స్‌ అభివృద్ధిపై గురువారం విశాఖలో జరిగిన ప్రత్యేక సదస్సులో ఆయన ఈ విషయం స్పష్టం చేశారు. స్టార్ట్‌ప్సను ప్రోత్సహించేందుకు ఈ సందర్భంగా రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం, అమెరికా కంపెనీ శాప్‌ (సిస్టమ్‌ అప్లికేషన్‌ ప్రొడక్ట్‌) మధ్య ఒక అవగాహన ఒప్పందం (ఎంఒయు) కుదిరింది. విశాఖతోపాటు, తిరుపతిలో కూడా స్టార్టప్‌ యాక్టివిటీ ఎక్కువగా ఉందని చౌదరి చెప్సారు. వీటిని ప్రోత్సహించేందుకు శాప్‌ కంపెనీ 130 కోట్ల డాలర్లు (సుమారు రూ.8,772 కోట్లు) పెట్టుబడిగా సమకూర్చేందుకు ముందుకు వచ్చిందన్నారు. రాషా్ట్రన్ని ఫినోటెక్‌ హబ్‌గా అభివృద్ధి చేసేందుకు జరుగుతున్న కృషిలో భాగంగానే శాప్‌తో ఒప్పందం కుదుర్చుకున్నామని చెప్పారు. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌ ఐటి ఇన్నోవేషన్‌ అండ్‌ ప్రమోషన్‌ ప్రత్యేక ప్రతినిధి వీణా గుండవిల్లి మాట్లాడుతూ, రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం పిలుపుతో ఈ ప్రాంతాన్ని ఐటి రంగంలో మరింత అభివృద్ధి చేసేందుకు భాగస్వాములమయ్యామని తెలిపారు. వ్యవసాయ, వైద్య రంగాల్లో స్టార్ట్‌ప్సకు బంగారు భవిష్యత్తు ఉందన్నారు. శాప్‌ డైరెక్టర్‌ మయాంక్‌ మథూర్‌ మాట్లాడుతూ ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ఎన్నో కంపెనీలతో కలిసి పనిచేస్తున్నామని, అయితే ఒక ప్రభుత్వంతో కలిసి పనిచేయడం ఇదే మొదటిసారి అని అన్నారు. రాష్ట్రంలో స్టార్ట్‌ప్సను మరింతగా ప్రోత్సహించేందుకు పక్కా ప్రణాళికలను సిద్ధం చేశామని చెప్పారు.

 

ఒప్పందం వివరాలు..

ఈ ఎంఒయు ప్రకారం శాప్‌ సంస్థ 130 కోట్ల డాలర్లు పెట్టుబడి పెడుతుంది. సంస్థ రూపొందించిన ‘హనా’ టెక్నాలజీ ద్వారా స్టార్టప్‌ కంపెనీలకు విలువైన సాఫ్ట్‌వేర్‌ టూల్స్‌ను ఉచితంగా అందిస్తుంది. వీటిని మార్కెట్‌లో కొనాలంటే లక్షల రూపాయలు ఖర్చవుతుంది. అలాగే స్టార్టప్‌ కంపెనీల ఉత్పత్తులకు అవసరమైన మార్కెట్‌ సపోర్ట్‌ అందించేందుకూ శాప్‌ కంపెనీ అంగీకరించింది.

US technopreneur plans ‘Srivari Valley’ in Tirupati

CommuniClique to be the first MNC IT firm in the temple city of Tirupati on a 250-acre site near the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus at Yerpedu.

Parvatha Reddy Balaram Reddy, chairman of the board of directors of the US-based CommuniClique Inc., plans to pay back to his motherland by bringing his India office to Tirupati, making it the first IT multinational company in the temple city. Aiming further, he plans to establish ‘Srivari Valley’ as the Sunrise State’s answer to the Silicon Valley.

‘Srivari Innovation Park’ has been proposed on a 250-acre site near the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus at Yerpedu, for which the Preliminary Project Report (PPR) has been prepared. “It will be an innovation hub, facilitating interaction between enterprising brains and experienced academicians. We have taken cue from the Stanford Innovation Park near Stanford University and the Madras Innovation Park near IIT-Madras,” Dr. Reddy told The Hindu in an exclusive interview.

After walking out of the portals of the Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering (SVUCE) as a gold medallist in the mid-sixties, Dr. Reddy got Rs. 375 as his first month’s pay as a lecturer but is now the proud chairman of a company that netted $75 million in revenue in 2015 and is poised for $130 million for 2016.

CommuniClique, launched in 2006, provides voice and SMS service to millions of users across multiple platforms, with 4,000 developers in 150 countries. Dr. Reddy plans to get the message across during conferences from February 13 to 14 in Mumbai and from February 15 to 16 in Delhi, where Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will market Andhra Pradesh.

“This is an opportunity for us to showcase Tirupati”, Dr. Reddy added. The company will soon organise a developers’ conference or with around 4,500 developers to set the idea in motion.

It short-lists six teams for grooming and incubation

IT industry body NASSCOM’s startup warehouse is all set to be operational at Sunrise Startup Village here by month-end.

As part of 10,000 startup programme of NASSCOM to create a vibrant startup ecosystem to nurture technology enterprises, the premier IT industry organisation had inked MoU with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in March to include Visakhapatnam for the warehouse.

Sources said NASSCOM has almost short-listed six teams for grooming and incubation at the warehouse where 5,000 sft has been allotted to it.

Focus

The focus of NASSCOM is to transform technology startups into commercial ventures on the model of ventures developed in Silicon Valley.

“NASSCOM warehouse will scale up startup ecosystem manifold and take the startups to the next level,” Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister and IT Advisor J.A. Chowdary told The Hindu .

Startups will be incubated in a co-working space with access to dedicated desks, meeting rooms and event space and connect with mentors, venture capitalists and corporate clients. It will have diverse range of verticals.

NASSCOM will regularly hold hackathons, grooming sessions and workshops with industry partners like Google for Enterprise, Microsoft Ventures, Kotak, IBM, Amazon and Facebook.

SAP will be the next big organisation to launch its operations at Sunrise Startup Village after NASSCOM. It is being allotted 10,000 sft for incubation of startups in the village for which an agreement was signed here sometime ago. Under SAP Startup Focus programme, software and support worth $100,000 will be provided to every startup in AP using SAP Hana technologies.

Kochi Startup Village is on verge of exiting from Sunrise Startup Village following its decision to change its focus to virtual mode of incubation. The Innovation Society, an autonomous body formed by the State government to encourage startups, will open branches in various districts to recognise out-of-the-box ideas by youngsters.

Indian State Andhra Pradesh to Launch Blockchain Institute, Aims to Lead Asian Market

The Andhra Pradesh (AP) Government, a branch of the federal government of India which rules the state of Andhra Pradesh, is collaborating with leading technology and Blockchain startups in Singapore and the University of California to establish a Blockchain technology institute.

JA Chowdary, IT advisor at the AP government, stated in an interview that local government officials have completed several preliminary discussions with the University of California (UC). IT advisors and researchers at the AP government will design the Blockchain Institute of Technology based on the agreements between UC and the government.

Chowdary noted that upon its completion, the Blockchain Institute of Technology will assist government agencies, major financial firms and corporations in approaching the Blockchain technology and strategizing various implementations.

Specifically, the AP government believes that the Blockchain technology will be widely integrated into existing government systems, in areas such as e-office, e-cabinet and procurement portals. Researchers at the AP government explain that the Blockchain technology and its decentralized nature will secure sensitive government information from hackers and security breaches.

Initiative to lead the Asian Blockchain market

Chowdary also stated that the establishment of a Blockchain research institution will allow the state of Andhra Pradesh to lead the Indian Blockchain market as well as the Asian FinTech industry.

Considering the surging demand for Blockchain talents, developers, and platforms, Chowdary adds that the Visakhapatnam-based Blockchain Institute of Technology will garner talents and train individuals to comprehend the Blockchain technology and explore its potential in non-financial markets.

Chowdary stated:

“We want to brand Vizag as the financial technology capital of India and we will generate the manpower for this technology. We want to create manpower. We are going to train people in Blockchain technology."
