AMTZ to host first help desk on new medical devices rules

The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) has been chosen to host Government of India’s first dedicated ‘help desk of medical devices rules, 2017’ to facilitate free flow of information to medical device manufacturers and help improve manufacturing potential of the sector.

The help desk will function as a single point of contact for medical devices manufacturers to access information regarding the changes in Medical Devices Rules. It will facilitate information on regulation of medical device with classification system; licensing authorities and functions of notified body; manufacture of medical devices for sale and distribution; import and labelling of medical devices; and clinical investigation of medical device and clinical performance evaluation of IVD’s.

The AMTZ desk would also provide information to manufacturers on import or manufacture of medical device which do not have predicative device; duties of medical device officer, medical device testing officer and notified body; registration of laboratory for carrying out test for evaluation; and sale of medical devices, etc.

Making a humble start, AMTZ is growing from strength to strength to carve out its own path to help India emerge as a global hub for medical device manufacturing.

Owing to the good response AMTZ has received, the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMED) has lauded the first ultra- modern medical equipment manufacturing zone of India for commencing booking of plots. AMTZ also received applauds at Indian Medical Device Conference – 2017, one of the largest events for the Indian pharmaceutical market, where AMTZ occupied the centre stage.

Medical devices park to have common irradiation plant

/******twaralo hutch xxx copy kottuddi chudandi******/

Meeting with manufacturers to be held on June 14

The Medical Devices Manufacturing Park in Visakhapatnam district will have a common gamma irradiation plant, according to Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas.

The units in the park make devices but since chemical sterlization is not accepted abroad for exports, the common facility will be set up by the government. While they make the devices, common facilities have to be set up by the government. A unit for calibration of equipment will also be set up.

A meeting would be organised with the manufacturers on the setting up of the gamma irradiation plant during the Chief Minister’s visit on June 14, he said here after participating in the ‘Nava Nirmana Deeksha’ at AU YVS Murthy Auditorium.

The park, being executed by AP MedTech Zone Limited, is expected to have 200 to 300 units with investment potential worth Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000 crore over a period of time. Earlier, speaking at the meeting he said a total of 26 initiatives on health were taken by the State government and NITI Aayog appreciated new health reforms.

Right from sanitation in hospitals, ‘Tallibidda Express’ for maternal care dropping them back home, provision of baby kits to free dialysis centres improved the services in the health sector and it resulted in 30% increase in outpatient treatment in government hospitals, he said.

Opening of 24 urban health centres in Visakhapatnam was a matter of satisfaction to him, he said. Not only specialist doctors were available but any further consultation required was done since telemedicine facility was available.

After registration, patients wait in the comfort of a/c rooms, he said. Free medicines were being given and 28 tests carried out free of cost. Even the consultation hours were kept to suit better services and the centres work 24X7.

VIMS was working well with 500 to 600 outpatients turning up and in KGH new facilities like CT scan were introduced.

However, it was not sufficient and more needed to be done, he said.

TUV Rheinland to set up testing facilities at AMTZ

Mumbai, Jun 16 (PTI) TUV Rheinland India, a subsidiary of TUV Rheinland Group of Germany, today entered into a partnership with Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) to set up testing facilities on public private partnership (PPP) mode at an estimated investment of about Rs 85 crore.
As per the terms of the partnership, the company has been awarded a contract to set up and operate electro-magnetic interference (EMI/EMC) including anechoic chambers, biomaterial, reliability & electrical safety testing facilities on a PPP model within AMTZ.
The company will invest about Rs 85 crore over the next four-five years. The facility is aimed at reducing medical device imports and production cost, the company said.
The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone is the first medical technology manufacturing park in the country. The zone at Visakhapatnam spans 270 acres.
The domestic medical devices manufacturing is a USD 4 billion industry and nearly 78 per cent of medical devices in the country are imported.
AMTZ will house modern 250-300 independent manufacturing units, each over a built-in ready to use area at a very cost effective long-term lease.
In addition the park will have in-house high investment scientific facilities, including state-of-the-art testing laboratories. PTI AP BEN NRB

VISAKHAPATNAM, JUNE 16:

There is immense potential for import substitution, and at a later stage for exports also, of medical devices in India as 80 per cent of the devices are being imported at present, according to Thomas Fuhrmann, CEO and Managing Director of TUV Rheinland (India) Pvt Ltd.

He was speaking here on Friday afternoon after signing an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) for setting up a medical devices testing lab at the medical devices park being set up in Visakhapatnam district on an area of 270 acres. AMTZ CEO Jitendar Kumar Sharma signed the pact on behalf of AMTZ.

Fuhrmann said his company had been awarded the contract to set up and operate the lab with facilities for testing electro-magnetic interference (EMI/EMC), anechoic chambers, bio-material reliability and electrical safety.

"The State Government would provide the land, two acres or so, in the medical devices park and we have to invest roughly Rs. 100 crore or so on the lab," he said and lauded the efforts of AP Government in setting up the park, which would give a great boost to the sector in the State and the country.

Kalyan Verma, Vice-President of the company, said: "The availability of world-class testing facilities within the medical devices park will make it easier for the manufacturers in improving quality. It will reduce logistics cost and the manufacturers can get their products tested within the park in accordance with the new Medical Devices Rules, 2017, coming into force from Jan 1, 2018."

AMTZ CEO Jitendar Kumar Sharma said for the first time in the country such a park was being set up, with the latest testing labs and other facilities, and it would give a great fillip to the sector in the State and the country. He said 250-300 medical device manufacturing units may come up in the park. The testing lab would be ready by next year.

think3D  to Open 3D Printing and Design Facility in Medical Device Park

WhatsApp-Image-2017-06-16-at-7.06.46-PM-

India-based think3D, the largest desktop 3D printing platform in the country, has been around since 2014. Since it opened its doors, the organization, which is a subsidiary of Singapore-based think3D Labs Pte Ltd, has presented a 3D printing art exhibit at an international school, supplied 3D printed models for an initiative with India’s Devnar Foundation for the Blind, helped several engineering students test out their newly developed metal 3D printer, and last year unveiled its new mobile app for Android. Recently, think3D won a government tender to set up a new 3D printing facility in India.

The $6 million state-of-the-art facility in Vizag will be developed in partnership with the provincial Indian government of Andhra Pradesh, which is the eighth largest state in India. The facility will be part of a new medical devices park, the Andhra Pradesh Medical Tech Zone (AMTZ), which is an SPV formed by the Andhra Pradesh government and the Indian government to reduce the country’s dependence on imported medical devices and promote this type of manufacturing within India. The medical device manufacturing zone is roughly 270 acres.
“We realized the need to have mega industrial partners in AMTZ,” said Dr. Jithendra Sharma, the CEO of AMTZ. “They will support manufacturers in producing quality product at an industrial cost-effective scale.”
The medical device market in India is worth $5.5 billion, and huge growth is expected in the next several years. However, nearly 75% of the market is made up of imported medical devices, which means a monetary and employment loss for the country. The AMTZ park was founded to encourage medical device manufacturers to set up shop in India, as part of the central government’s Make In India initiative, which was launched two years ago as a means of transforming the country into a global manufacturing and design hub.

A substantial up-front investment is required for medical device manufacturing, in order to pay for research and development efforts, quality control, and quality machinery facilities. Some facilities, while a required part of the manufacturing process, do not have much of a utilization rate, which is why the government in India made the decision to partner up with private entities to break ground on common facilities, and allow manufacturers in the AMZT park the option to use the 3D printing manufacturing and design facility on a pay-per-use basis, which lowers the manufacturer’s up-front cost significantly.

A tender was floated to choose a private entity to work with AMTZ to set up and manage the 3D printing and design facility at the park, and after a long technical and financial evaluation, think3D was chosen.

think3D will set up and manage, as part of its agreement with AMTZ, a 20,000-square-foot rapid prototyping facility, an expert 3D design facility, and a reverse engineering facility; the rapid prototyping facility will house various high-quality metal 3D printers for any SLS, SLA, and bioprinting needs. AMTZ will purchase the 3D printers, and lease both the facility and the machinery to think3D, which will manage the whole operation at its own expense while offering 3D printing customers at the park a subsidized pay-per-use rate; a market rate will be available for any entities outside of the park.

When government and 3D printing mix, things can definitely take a positive turn in the manufacturing and education sectors – just look at everything that’s been accomplished since the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy was established. But this isn’t always the case, so it will be interesting to see what comes of the AMTZ and think3D partnership. Discuss in the think3D forum at 3DPB.com.

AMTZ inks pact with common scientific facilities service providers for India’s first medical devices park

/**********

Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) - India’s first medical devices manufacturing park  inked formal agreements with the various scientific facilities which will be housed within the country’s first Medical Technology Manufacturing Park spread over 270 acre.

These facilities include Centre for Electro-Magnetic Interference/ Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMI/EMC) and Electrical Safety Testing (EST), Centre for Biomaterials Testing, Centre for X-ray and CT Scan Tube Manufacturing, Centre for 3D Designing, canning, Printing, Rapid Prototyping & Tooling, Centre for Gamma Irradiation and AMTZ Central Warehouse.

AMTZ shall be partnering with TÜV Rheinland India for the EMI/EMC & EST as well as the Biomaterials Testing Facilities, CURA Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. for the Centre for X-ray  and CT Scan Tube Manufacturing, think3D for the Centre for 3D Designing, canning, Printing, Rapid Prototyping & Tooling; MICROTROL Sterilisation Services Pvt. Ltd. for the Gamma Irradiation Centre and Balmer Lawrie & Co. Limited for the Central Warehouse.

TÜV Rheinland India, a subsidiary of TÜV Rheinland Group, Germany, a worldwide leader in Testing, Training, Inspection, Consulting & Certification was represented by Thomas Fuhrmann, managing director, TÜV Rheinland India. CURA Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. was represented by its CEO, M. Balasubramaniam; Prudhvi Reddy, Co-founder, think3D; Vikram B. Kalia, director, MICROTROL Sterilisation Services Pvt. Ltd. and K. Swaminathan, director (Service Businesses), Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. were present on the occasion.

Complementing the above-mentioned ecosystem, AMTZ has firmed up strategic tie-ups with industry associations including Association of Indian Medical Device Industry, Andhra Chamber of Commerce, GMDN Agency, India Angel Network, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Quality Council of India, UNITED ASIA and World Association for Small and Medium Enterprises; BIORx Venture Advisors Private Limited, HDFC Bank & NTrust Insurance Broking Services for Financial & Specialised Insurance services; Cerner Healthcare Solutions, Hibiscus Consulting, IZiel Healthcare, MarksMan Healthcare Solutions, Meshayu Consultants Private Limited, National Hub for Healthcare Instrumentation Development (NHHID), Operon Strategist and PC Process for Technology Transfer & Regulatory Consulting; monster.com for Human Resource facilitation and eLets Technomedia Pvt. Ltd., Medgate today Magazine and BMJ Noida as media partners. Along with this AMTZ has also launched bookings of office space for manufacturers

The AMTZ with in-house high investment scientific facilities would help manufacturers reduce the cost of manufacturing by more than 40 per cent to 50 per cent. Currently, due to lack of such centrally located shareable facilities, either manufacturers do not undertake production of technologies requiring them or send their products abroad for process up-gradation and value addition. While the zone would have all such facilities in-house to reduce manufacturing process costs, it would be located in an area which is well connected with railways, roadways, waterways and airways with near presence of industrial corridors, port and harbour to reduce logistical costs.

India’s 1st medical technology institute at AMTZ,Visakhapatnam gets 100% govt financial support

:super:

The Kalam Institute of Health Technology (KIHT), India’s first institute dedicated to medical technology located at Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam, has received official approval for 100 per cent financial support from the Department of Bio-technology, Government of India.

KIHT approval comes after the launch of ‘National Biopharma Mission’ – an industry-academia collaboration for accelerating discovery research to early development for biopharmaceuticals.

The National Biopharma Mission includes an investment of $125 million from the Government of India and an equal contribution as a loan from the World Bank. It is anticipated to be a game changer for the Indian biopharmaceutical and medical devices industry.

Named after India’s 11th President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, KIHT has been set up with the aim to identify critical gaps in medical technology and suggest the government to do focused spending on such areas and help bridge the gap between academic research and industrial market access, by auctioning of patents and prototypes available with government funded academic research institutions.

KIHT will broadly focus on innovation and market access, enabling technology transfer and support for research and development.

Located within AMTZ campus, India’s first state-of-the-art medical devices manufacturing park, KIHT will have direct access to academia and industry. Launch of KIHT is scheduled to be done soon by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandra Babu Naidu.

AMTZ is one of the fastest growing Government of India-supported projects in Andhra Pradesh. Construction activity at the 270-acre iconic park dedicated to medical device manufacturing was initiated earlier this month. AMTZ has recently received the ‘Most Innovative MedTech Zone’ award.
