VIJAYAWADA: The state government is planning to take up Krishna riverfront development on international standards by floating a development company soon. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is keen on development of riverfront, is scheduled to conduct a meeting with officials on October 12.
At a preparatory meeting held here on Monday, district collector Babu Ahmed said that the riverfront would be developed from Padmavatighat to Pavitra sangamam in a way that it would become an international tourist spot. "In the first phase, we have developed the bathing ghats. Now, we are switching over to the second phase where we need to concentrate on acquisition of land to develop parks and entertainment centres along the riverfront," asked the officials. He said that they would acquire the required land through tourism department and Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA).

He directed the officials to prepare plans to develop the riverfront in public private partnership (PPP) mode in the second phase. He explained that the entire area between Padmavati ghat and Pavitra Sanamam would be brought under riverfront development in the third phase. The collector said that the government would beautify all the canals passing through the city shortly.

He sought the cooperation of the commissioner of police to protect the bathing ghats developed recently and asked the CP to re-install CC cameras for safety of people at Pavitra sangamam and various other ghats. He urged the CP to deploy police personnel at ghats to provide security to the visitors.

The collector said the government is planning to beautify the riverfront with plantations to provide a pleasant atmosphere for the benefit of visitors.

He asked the contractors of Kanakadurga flyover to complete the pillars in the area identified for development of riverfront on warfoot basis. He said that nearly 34 pillars are to be laid in the riverfront area. He also directed the Transco officials to go for underground cables along the riverfront area
